I kind of feel like 60% of General Star Wars Discussion is just Haseo and MalaStrana yelling at each other at this point.

Well I have already said to the guy that I don’t care about his opinion but he always wants to get my attention. He’s curious this little fellow. Now for good I won’t respond to any of his messages and responses I have no interest in.

Now back to the thread !

That won’t stop me from refuting your “arguments”. But only if they’re factually inaccurate which a decent percentage of them are.

There is a lot of stupid back and forth going on that is pretending to be discussion. lets bring it down a notch.

As far as REVIEWING TFA goes, i watched the bluray this weekend with a handful of friends, and it reinforced why i think this is a good movie. Not a great movie, but a good one.

We had a mix of star wars fans and non-star wars fans. and everyone was able to enjoy the movie. There is a great amount of humor that ‘just works’ in this movie. Finn and BB-8 deliver some good comedy. And for the star wars fans it delivers some interesting new characters, and a good light saber fight.

This movie isn’t great, but being part one of a trilogy, you can’t fully judge the movie until we see the rest. Sure its a lazy answer, and if the rest of the movies suck, perhaps i will revise this opinion, but we will have to wait and see.

Why not, but as far as we know within the inner movie logic the saber goes to her, she does not take the saber.

How on earth do we know that?

Sorry, did not see your reply. I should have used a different grammar in my sentence, like this one:

Why not, but as far as we know within the inner movie logic the saber could have gone to her without her taking it by choice [but by the will of the Force and so on]

I think he was clearly being sarcastic. I think his point was that she was thrust into the situation against her will, and that moment (sarcastically) might as well have been the saber pushing her forward yet again.
Seriously, though, that’s supposed to be the moment she accepts her calling. Prior to that she refused the call by wanting to stay on Jakku and fleeing Maz’s castle.

JEDIT: Maybe, just maybe, someday my phone will let me post without horrible typos of spelling or grammar. I’d kill for Tapatalk integration.

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

Well technically she could have gone back to Jakku after everything but chooses to go to Luke to start her training. Also in STAR WARS Luke was pretty much forced to take his voyage after his Aunt and Uncle were killed seeing as how there was nothing for him.

And sarcasm is hard to gauge in 2016 m8. I just assume everyone is serious now.

My mom texted me her review:

My Mom said:

Fun, but just like E4 only guy’s/girl’s roles reversed

R2 was cute, Luke the same whiny character, “this guy won’t listen to me, I’m not going to play anymore. I’ll just move to this island and pout”

Liked it though and will watch others as they unfold too.

I think she meant BB-8 was cute, but she’s not wrong about Luke.

She went to Ireland to find Luke after the moment where she accepted her call. Luke also refused his call in Ben’s hut, and was reluctant until his family was killed. They share the refusal and reluctant acceptance of the call.
Sarcasm around here can be tough, just felt the need to clarify.

Luke left because he felt guilty for the destruction of his students and not because he’s whiny. Han even says as much but that’s not even the point. Luke doesn’t give up; it’s just not in his character and if they don’t write in another reason as to why he left (like training more Jedi in secret) then I can never look at the character the same way again.

And what’s funny is that I have heard people use that against Luke (and now Rey by extension) as if everyone would be willing to jump right into the pond so to speak without consideration.

The insults and cheap shots stop now. Failure to heed results in a temp ban. Have a nice day!

As a movie, typical modern “blockbuster”, but well made: 7/10
As a SW film, could’ve used more originality: 6/10

thx for breaking the chain

Well it’s not like he hated the movie…

TFA could definitely slow down, a little character development never hurt nobody. 7/10

But honestly, I don’t give a Sh** about the originality issue anymore, as long as 8 and 9 don’t follow suit. I’m kinda getting tired of hearing the same complaint everywhere. It’s very much warranted criticism, but I believe it’s getting overblown at this point.

Am I the only one who thought the pacing wasn’t too fast? The scene with Rey and Finn lasts a couple of minutes then Han and Chewie show up and they talk for a few minutes more then later in the film we get to Maz’s castle and that part of the film was slow too until the First Order shows up. Then there are the Hux, Kylo and Snoke scenes which are slow as well. The only part of the film that is too fast for me is the 3rd act but in general the 3rd act wasn’t as strong as the other 2.

I think it was too fast-paced indeed, at least for my tastes. The only two real “breaths” in the movie are when Rey is introduced, and when they get to Maz’s castle. I also suspect a few scenes have been speeded up, like when Rey’s repairing the Falcon: I tried slowing it down to 80% of its speed (without changing the pitch), and they finally sounded more normal to me.

I generally agree. We got a lot of nice slow moments at the introduction of Rey on Jakku. We get it with Finn and Rey, and then Finn/Rey/Solo/Chewie on the Falcon. We get Maz’s castle. Hux/Kylo/Snoke. Kylo’s interrogation of Rey. And on and on.
