You’re not really an example…
You’re not really an example…
Which does not mean it was the best (Speed Racer was wayyyyyyyyyyy better).
What worked against Speed Racer, (which I enjoyed) was that the original cartoon had sort of been out of the public eye for a while. A run on Cartoon Network/Adult Swim or even MTV, which successfully dusted it off in the 80’s, would have helped create some buzz for the film.
Where were you in '77?
You can also add that the reviews were terrible (and Matrix 2 & 3 were successful but somehow have disappointed the audience). At least in the US and in Japan the tv series was quite known, in Europe it has never been. I’ve seen this masterpiece twice in a row in an empty theater the day it was released. A missed opportunity of what could have been the beginning of a great franchise…
I think some critics come off as spiteful jerks sometimes. Movies like Howard The Duck and Willow seem to have gotten more flack because George Lucas’ name was on them.
Not that I pay attention critics these days, but I didn’t see any negative reviews of TFA from anyone not an angry fanboy on the internets.

You know what I find vastly overrated? Nolan’s Batman movies.
I’m a fan of toast, however.

It will be interesting to see how they are regarded a few years from now, if the Superman/Batman flick does well that is.
TFA’s legacy will be easier to figure out when we have Eps. 8 & 9 to compare it to.

I see what you’re doing there.
TDK Trilogy will be seen as the dark, gritty and complex superhero films. that got the series going after Spiderman and Spiderman 2 got the ball rolling. And The Dark Knight will still be seen as a nearly flawless film.
TFA on the other hand will most likely be seen by most as the resurrection of Star Wars.
And to be honest the last classic/history making movie in recent memory was The Dark Knight.
I refute that statement with “Inception”. Biggest Oscar snub since shawshank IMHO

Dammit. I can’t believe I forgot about that one.
Yah. Inception is an absolute treasure. The catharsis of emotion I feel at the end is just riveting. The prestige could have matched it if not for its ending.

Classic movie my donkey.
Well your donkey needs to watch the film again.
The Force Awakens needed more trade disputes, more gungans, more midi-chlorians, and a child protagonist.
All jokes aside, the special effects were phenomenal and the plot was fast paced.
However, the political situation was impossible to understand, especially the relationship between the Resistance and the New Republic. Furthermore, it was hard to believe that Rey could use the Force so easily without any training in the ways of the Jedi.
Personally, I hope Rey is not a Skywalker. That would be too obvious.

Depending upon how they handle it, Rey being Luke’s daughter could work…or be disastrous. Explaining away who Lukes wife is would be difficult and it would be hard to do the reveal correct so I think I probably would prefer to not be the daughter…
Didn’t anybody read the crawl? 😉
Seriously, it was a lot easier to figure out than what the heck blockading Naboo and forcing the Queen to sign something was all about.
And Rey probably had some rudimentary training in the Force as a toddler she barely remembers until confronted by Kylo Ren. Why else would she be abandoned on a sithhole planet, except to keep her safe until she was older?

a sithhole planet
I think the point of hiding her there is it wasn’t a “sithhole.”
I would put this in my sig if I weren’t so lazy.

I think you missed the pun. 😉

Lol never heard of this. Just assumed it was a convenient misspelling.

It was first used in a tv spot for Episode III, believe it or not!

That commercial is literally (as in actually literally) better than the movie.
