The Force Among Us

Hello, my name is Cris Macht and I am the director/producer/writer for the documentay - the force among us. A few months back , one of the forum members from this site invited me to post about our documentary here. So I hope you dont mind me stopping by.

The Documentary is a film made by fans for the fans. Its a film about the Journey deep inside fandom, and it shows that no matter how diverse we are - Star Wars that is the universal langage that brings us all together - we also make strong efforts to destroy the stereotypes that are associated with the fans.

We even interviewed people that HATE the special editions and do not care for the new films! We exersice freedom of speech - very much like this site.

We also filmed on location in Finse, Norway and just returned from that amazing adventure. Tunisia is also in our film.

I invite you to stop on by the website and say hello -

all the best.

Hey nice to have you here. I had heard about this film for a while now. Personally i never cared at all for conventions and dressing up and all that fandom crap but i have to admit that i have often fantasized about pilgrimages to Tunisia--cool that guys got that experience. Looks like an interesting place.

I was videotaping a wedding for a DVD, and the groom's brother showed up with lightsabers. Needless to say, I forbade my wife from mentioning I liked Star Wars. When he asked me later, I said I preferred Star Trek.

Many people have asked me if I'm going to the next SW convention in LA, and I have to admit, I'm a but scared of the kind of people I will meet there.

MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.

I will admit, this film covers ALL fans. you would be suprised how many different types of fans are out there...We have everyone from the people that dress up and take it a little too far to Dan Madsen (the presednet of the star wars fan club) and Dick Staub - the aurthor of Christian wisdom of the Jedi masters. Star Wars fans are diverse as the movies. and thats what this movie shows. There is no difference between the people that just visit forums and the guy who went to tunisa, WE ARE ALL PART OF THIS SAGA. If you get a chance, check out the trailer at youtube.com - you will see the great diversity of fandom for sure.

Not all the people at celebration are "off the charts" with reality. Sure there are some, but if you go to a concert or a sporting events...there is always the guy that takes it just a little too far.

Oh, I know. I'm not saying all the fans are like that....I just tend to avoid the ones that are.

I'm sure quite a few of those fans would think of me as a geek for all the work I'm putting into the X0 Project, and quite a few would probably have a negative view of this project as well.

[EDIT] I like the photo on your website, but I would have photoshopped the photographer out.

Understood. I my self have been a fan for along time and have always been disapointed how society will look at us and create the stereotypes about all of us fans. That is one of the things I tried to do as a film maker - to show that fans are real people. We interviewed a sociologist professor to help us prove that the stereotypes are just that. We are pretty happy that the film shows all the different sides of fandom too - it will be something we can all realate too - either you will see "your self" in this film, someone "you know"...or some one you dont want to know

I never saw it - but i heard a lot of star trek fans were disapointed in trekkies - as the movie showed then in a "negative" light...The Force Among Us is Anything and Everything...but that.

This will be interesting to see, but those fans who dress up always scare me and wonder why they would do that as an adult? I love SW more then anyone, but there is line that makes me feel real creepy especially when some of these fans have those SW themed weddings! Because of fans like that, I have to keep my love for SW to myself sometimes, cause when you tell someone you are a diehard fan the first thing they ask, "You don't dress for the movies, do you?"

As for the prop guy - nice site! but we wrapped! maybe in the sequel.

as for the costume concerns - I get that alot too "do you dress up" - and if you take the % of the fans, its actually a very small amount that do dress up. This movie features only a few of them that dress the 501st and the non 501st guy. We get deep insdie there heads and ask "why" do you do this? and the ans. is pretty clear - i think everyone has there different reasons for sure. SOme of its creepy, some of it makes sence. i think that is what we want to do with this film - help people understand the fans, help people understand eachother. As for the wedding thing. It just adds that fun element. - I had the star wars music at mine and lightsabers. but if someone had star wars vow's - thats alittle too far fetched for me. Don't forget that there is a theripist in the film as well...who is also a star wars fan.

I dont think you should feel "creepy" as a fan. People should like you who you are. I think society has us all figured out wrongly....we hope to educate them with our documentary.

As prop collectors we often get overlooked as fans as we are not as vocal a group as some of the other sets of fans.Due,primarily,to concerns created by the myth of Lucasfilm attorneys descending in the night to take all your props back to the ranch!lol!
It is certainly a film I will be interested in seeing.I always get bizarre looks when people know I am such a diehard fan but i could care less.I wear it as a badge of honour!

I would be interested to talking to you someday for sure - I have some props myself...When I went to tunisa, i had a bitch of a time making it through customs (lol).

as for LFL lawyer(s)...we made sure we got a (good) lawyer to represent us while making this documentary!

Love your website - it was cool to see some of those items...and of course...i am wondering, where did you get such cool piece

Star Wars fandom should be displayed with honor!

I have been fortunate enough to make some great friends and acquaintances in the prop and film world.I have put my collection together through a mixture of patience, dedication and blind luck!lol!
I am planning on a Tunisia trip with my wife as well and have the great map from the Star Wars traveller site which is just fantastic. So much stuff left behind in Tunisia from set pieces to Krayt bones and the like.I am sure customs must have been a nightmare!
Star Wars is always something to be proud of and thanks for the kind words about my site.Much appreciated.
