Hey guys! this is the book-cut version of FOTR that I am recutting from my previous version. I’m going to update you all using this thread once in a while with progress reports… I’ve recently hit a snag where I truly require the Gandalf narration to Battle for Middle-Earth’s introduction video. This would be a GREAT help if you would send it to me via email or otherwise at:

For those of you who have no idea what it is, go to the older thread that reads “Lord of the Rings - FOTR - The Book-Cut”… I’ll put up a synopsis onto what I’m changing later.

The biggest motivation is of course, you guys. It’s really hard to edit something when I don’t know if you’d want it or not… this is why it has taken such a long time for me to do anything about it! That and the fact that I can’t seem to get the opening Gandalf narration from BFME…

I am currently 50% done with DISC 1 of FOTR. I just need that narration to keep going.

I'm not a die hard LOTR fan and even I really want to see this. Be assured there is interest for this thing. If I knew you felt that way I would have spoken up sooner. I've shown your clips to at least one offline friend who was also quite interested in what you are planning.

have you tried youtube for the footage you need, at least you may be able to rip teh audio from it

To help keep you guys waiting... as I have problems with my stupid DVD to MPG program... I could use some program suggestions for optimal picture quality DVD ripping software...
I uploaded a lovely preview for you to see. It's the scene where Gandalf looks through the gondor archives and reads about the Last Alliance and Isildur.

notice that Galadriel isn't narrating. I mixed and provided all the sound effects to the parts that I had to cut out Galadriel's narration. Huzzah!
I know some stuff is noticeable... I had a lot of trouble trying to mix together the Gandalf narration (to which I unfortunately found out that Ian McKellen's performance for BFME wasn't as good as I had hoped. It would have been strange putting in that pitch of tone to the scene... so it was of minimal use) and the film sounds to make it fit. Hopefully you guys don't mind too much.

You could probably change Gandalfs pitch of voice with some sound editing software. Then you could make it fit with the opening scene better.

I know I know! I'm so lazy! Forgive me! I got an HD Extended Edition video and now I can take stuff off of that instead of the DVD! Rejoice! Once I start editing, I usually finish on the same day. So, don't worry... I'm going to work on it soon!

FYI, there is no Extended Edition High Def version of FOTR )that has been "released" to my knowledge, just the standard edition in HD with upconverted EE scenes from the DVD9 inserted into the video.

ah! Thank you, yes... but it's much easier for me to extract that then from the official DVDs. again, sorry for taking so long...

Okay!

I'm done with Disc 1 of FOTR. I had a really hard time editing it as the HD file I was working with was slowing things down for no real reason. I also had to get separate audio tracks for it and match them together... This edit isn't very edited until we get to "Two Towers"... but still, you can watch this too. There were also a bunch of dead frames here and there, and I'm going to have to take the aggravating time to patch them up... I can't tell you how much I hate doing stuff like that.

But that's okay, because it's 98.9% done! I'll have it up for grabs sometime tomorrow (Thursday)!

Oh yeah, and if any of you know a way to get a hold of Jamie Selkirk, I'd be very gracious. (It's a pathetic request, yeah... ignore it.)
