It could be your DVD burner that's the problem. I have a DVD+RW and it will not read or write to DVD-Rs at all. It won't even recognize them if I put them in the drive. It was made in such a way that I have to use only DVD+R or DVD+RW or else it won't work. Maybe this is what is happening to you.

or since i have heard that just burning a data dvd with the Audio_TS and Video_TS folder could result in compatabilty issues, and my impression of this program is that it burns the disc in the same format that using Nero's Video DVD feature does but removes the restrictions of not allowing anything besides the Audio_TS, Video_TS, and vob/ifo files it would seem that its a possibility for this program to get around whatever is causing the problem of burning the disc to a DVD-R disc.

RichKS, can you burn other dvds to -R media, or is this nero refusing to burn it to a dvd-r specific to this dvd? How about burning a straight data dvd on dvd-r media? maybe the drivers for your burner got messed up and its not recognizing it as the multi format burner that it is. could try reinstalling the drivers and/or nero

I'd just like to say that I have never burned a DVD in any other manner than just burning a data DVD with the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders, and I've burned hundreds of DVDs, and they've all come out fine.

Maybe I should clarify what I meant. I have never burned a DVD that I authored in any other manner than just burning a data DVD with the folders. Any time I am copying a single-layer DVD, I always rip a disc image rather than copying the files and folders. I would also like to point out that Rikter was never trying to find the JACKET_P and DVD-ROM contents of A New Hope, as they were included on the disc that I sent him. The DVD-ROM content was included in his torrent and the JACKET_P folder was available as a .rar file after he realized that he forgot to include it in the torrent. I had no hand in the distribution of ESB and ROTJ, so I can't speak for the missing contents on those, but I can tell you that the disc I sent Rik was practically a carbon copy of the disc I was sent.

Yep, he speaks the truth - WHEN I copied the disc "DVD Decrypter" did not copy the original JACKET_P folder so I did not include that in the torrent BUT I did grab the DVD-ROM folder I excluded the the JACKET_P folder as I thought it was a useless folder that some DVD authoring software had included - I'VE nevere seen a JACKET_P folder before and Adobe Encore, TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.6, ULEAD and Nero have never created one so I tossed it.... I did update it with a .RAR file so those that wanted to include it could (This only effects SOME with Sony DVD players and some Denon DVD decks).

THE next DVD's I got were from three (3) OTHER fans and EACH one did not have the DVD-ROM folder - THIS happens as DVD Decrypter only copies the VIDEO_TS and the AUDIO_TS folders....

SO, when the discs are copied it DOES not include the DVD-ROM folder so if your not aware that the folder is there it can be overlooked.

We have to remember that NOT every fan is Super Tech Savy and things like this can happen.

DVD Decrypter is a good program and I will always use it, but ALWAYS explore the disc for extra features now and I suggest to ANYONE planning on coping a FAN created DVD - Explore the disc for extra folders and copy them over also

One really big question is begging to be asked here....

Why even use DVD Decryptor with these fan made discs? Surely the Only purpose of it is to get around encryption, which is never an issue with these discs.

Why not just copy the disc onto your PC, and then onto another DVD disc. Or, if you have two drives, just straight from one to the other?

On another note, I completely stopped using DVD Decryptor when I discovered DVD Shrink... so very easy to use in Decrypting, shrinking, or reauthoring... create piece of work.

DVD Decryptor rips nice disc images, which is the only reason why I use it now. Occasionally, when I only want a particular part of a commercial disc (i.e. the exclusive bonus feature on the American edition of the Shaun of the Dead DVD), I'll use DVD Decrypter to grab to so I can encode it to AVI using AutoGordionKnot.

Guys,

My burner is working fine. I can burn any other content to any format (DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD+RW, actually I don't have any DVD-RWs at the moment). I can burn video to DVD-R as long as it's not the Editdroid ANH disk (although I haven't had a chance to try ESB yet and RotJ hasn't been on MySpleen yet so I don't have it. I can burn data to all formats. I can burn PS2 and XBox backups to DVD-R, DVD+RW and DVD+R. I use Win XP and therefore there are no drivers for DVD burners unless you have Plextor hardware with it's funky Plextools thing, which I don't since I have a Pioneer drive. When I burn a movie, I use the Nero DVD Video mode and copy the required files into the VIDEO_TS directory like you're supposed to. I never, ever include any of the extraneous folders, like Content or Jacket_P since they pretty much do me no good at all and if I want to look at the DVD ROM content I can look at it from my hard drive where it's already residing. So this will be 100% DVD Video compatable.

My DVD burner is working fine. There's nothing wrong with it.

There IS something wrong with the content, which is making Nero think that it's in some way not suitable for burning to DVD-R. Nero lists all the compatable media for this compilation on my burner, and that list is DVD-RW, DVD+R and DVD+RW. Basically everything except DVD-R. I have no idea how or why the content may be unsuitable for burning to DVD-R, but suitable for burning to DVD-RW, DVD+R and DVD+RW. This simply doesn't make any sense.

I will perhaps try to burn this content using a different application. I could try using Alcohol120%, that might not have this weird quirk.

It can also spot errors in the disc - SOMETIMES if I use Nero to make an image some errors can be ignored making the disc a copy with write errors - DVD Decryptor catches these rare errors.

I do not copy official DVD's PERIOD - My DVD collection consists of 12 other DVD's besides Star Wars (Singles,B5 The Gathering, Batman, The Death of Batman, Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal, Halloween, Nightmare Before Christmas, Sleepy Hollow, Dune, Blade Runner and Space Balls) - I've only watched the discs MAYBE once (except Nightmare )

Apart from what Rikter stated, I also use DVDDecrypter because it allows you to manually set the layer break in DL DVD's, when Nero does not. One other main reason to use it is because it is freeware (I always have a strong sympathy towards freeware applications). Nero is also a very heavy program with occasional malfunctions, and apart from the fact that it can make compilations, I see no other reason to use it when Alcohol 120% is around. Lastly, Nero sometimes causes a conflict when auto insert notification is disabled in windows XP.
Hence: I HATE Nero.

PS: Someone previously stated that you can burn a working DVD using the compilation option in Nero. True as that may be, it is not suggested, because then the files are not placed on the DVD in the order they should. As a concequence, the Disc will be "less readable" and the seeking time will increase.
And now, for your feature presentation:
The Classic Re-re-re-release of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back.
In this version the word "WOOKIE" has been changed to "HAIR CHALLENGED ANIMAL" and the entire cast has been digitally replaced by Ewoks.

Just thought I'd point out that the EditDroid system, where this particular set got its namesake, is mentioned briefly in the downloadable "final chapter" pdf at the official star wars site. It's the last chapter of the "Making of Revenge of the Sith" book.

I haven't had a chance to read over everything yet, but I have been hearing a lot of good things about this set. I was just wondering if all of the footage of Leia welding in ESB is in tact and if a dual layer version is in the works.

Thanks.

I do believe the Leia welding is intact, but don't quote me on that - I haven't watched ESB the whole way through.

The Leia welding footage is intact. This is a GREAT disc. In fact, all three of them are. Now, if I can just get the DVD-ROM content for ROTJ they would be practically perfect.

Could you perhaps release the torrent, then when you get the DVD-ROM content, make a RAR addendum the way you did with the ANH JACKET_P folder?

Sorry, just an impatient fan here.

"WHEN I copied the disc "DVD Decrypter" did not copy the original JACKET_P folder"

While I would agree that the JACKET_P file is a waste on more than 95% of DVD players, I don't understand why you wouldn't just use Nero or Roxio to copy the entire disc. What kinds of "errors" have you found with DVDDecrypter, and how do you fix them?

"Why not just copy the disc onto your PC, and then onto another DVD disc. Or, if you have two drives, just straight from one to the other?

Agreed. I LOVE DVDshrink. So easy to use, and make commercial DVDs exactly the way you want them (except for removing FBI warnings, but that's what IFOedit is for. ) I copy all my daughter's Disney DVDs so they start right at the beginning of the film, and end right at the credits. No menus, no forced ads, nothing extra.

"True as that may be, it is not suggested, because then the files are not placed on the DVD in the order they should. As a concequence, the Disc will be "less readable" and the seeking time will increase."

DVDLab lets me put each file precisely where I want it. This makes for better transitions between menus.

I sure do! I really enjoyed this chapter (especially since it includes the complete recorded cue list for EpIII). I may end up buying the "Making of ROTS" book. Anyway, you can download the "Final Chapter" eBook
