JJFlash_IT,

If your seriously willing to seed those four big torrents a while, it would probably be good idea to post where those torrent files are available for download (The Pirate Bay, mininova, etc.) because those files have been inactive for some time.

Don't post the actual torrent files though. I wouldn't want you to get in trouble.

People can do the work for themselves once they know where to go.

I get asked about the Dr. Gonzo set a lot. Once the word is out that there are active torrents for the films and supplemental disc, well, you should have plenty of leechers jumping in. The more leechers will mean more seeders soon enough. Once that happens, you will be able to stop seeding. The fact that you brought a very famous fan work back to life online is work enough.

Hello Darth Hade,

It was my intention to post another message regarding the availability of the Supplemental disc, but I couldn't find immediately a suitable torrent file.

One can find the three main disc torrents I'm seeding by going to kickasstorrents and searching for pre special ld rip.

Several torrents will come up, with some duplicates.

For Episode 4 and Episode 5, choose the older torrents. You shouldn't find duplicates for Episode 6, so it should work.

As for the Supplemental Materials disc, one should go to btmon, and search for supplemental material. "Material" has to be singular, if you type materials you will find the same disc but with a different torrent file, and so a different hash.

This search also will bring up several torrents. You have to choose the oldest of the group.

My advice is to turn on the DHT, if you are using uTorrent, in case it's not your default.

The Supplemental Materials disc torrent comes with a tracker that doesn't work. If your client permits it, you should add the trackers from PublicBitTorrent and OpenBitTorrent (you can use http instead of udp).

I'll edit this post as soon as I can find a torrent file for the supplementals.

I want to thank Darth Mallwalker once again, without whom all of this wouldn't be possible :-)

I put the word out to everyone I could remember who ever asked me about Dr. Gonzo's set.

You should have some other seeders soon enough, JJFlash_IT.

Please pm the torrent file (or where to find it). I would love to have the Gonzo version. Yes, the GOUT looks better but I prefer to have the classic version before Lucas lost his mind. I don't really want to support anything he does anymore.

I know the THX audio had some issues but is there anything else that would be 'bad' about the LD version?

The GOUT DVDs are the classic versions. Buy them now while you still can.

I'll pass. I don't think Lucas deserves any money for taking such a great trilogy and relegating it to 'bonus' material on his crappy 'official' version that is something he imposed on fans 20+ years later.

I'd rather have a bootleg from someone who actually cares about the movies. Besides, I own the LDs.

I was just watching these again today....I LOVE the SW THX bumper....always cool to see.  Besides, these age far better than VHS does and it's great to have the nostalgia feel of these transfers.  I always get a little giddy when I watch them on my RCA Projection TV.

Ahhhhh, the memories.....

I have put this set, including the extras disc, on the spleen.

Is this set on Usenet? I do not have a spleen account.

I actually have burned copies of the three movie discs in this set from several years back, but I never got the Extras disc.

In the 4th disc 'spleen torrent comments
benduwan said it worked on his PC, but had problem playing on his TV.

That made me curious, so I checked my 2004 copy against the 'spleen torrent file, which indicate 99% complete.
The VOB files are identical, while the IFOs have different checksums.

Wonder if that could be the reason for benduwan's troubles?

I'm willing to post Supplemental Materials on Usenet.
It's the same version seeded at torrentbox.com tracker on 2004-03-29, later indexed on suprnova.org

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

I had no errors at all copying my disc, so if there's an IFO file that differs by all means send it to me and I will investigate. After all I can easily update the torrent if I have corrupted files somehow! Alternatively you could download just the .ifo files and see if it affects your ability to play the disc.

Hey, for the fourth disc. Does it have all of the following bonus features?

And if so, are they split up in certain features like War Stories, Sound Advice and The ABC’s of Jedi Effects or not?

Also, are the widescreen bonus features like the “scope” trailers in anamorphic widescreen or not?

The bonus features, as listed in the Executor set (which is basically a PAL VHS version of the Definitive Collection LaserDisc) are:

Star Wars:

  • The Making of Star Wars Documentary
  • Original Theatrical Trailer (1977)
  • Star Wars 30" US TV Spot
  • Theatrical Trailer (1978 re-release)
  • Theatrical Trailer (1978 re-release/Academy Award)
  • Theatrical Trailer (1981 re-release)
  • Theatrical Trailer (1982 re-release)
  • War Stories: An Interview with George Lucas
    • Original Concepts for STAR WARS
    • Writing STAR WARS
    • Aerial Dogfights in STAR WARS
    • C-3PO and Darth Vader
    • Harrison Ford
    • Carrie Fisher
  • The Star Wars Gallery Narrated by Ralph McQuarrie
  • A Tour of LucasFlim Archives - Conducted by Don Bies and R2-D2

The Empire Strikes Back:

  • SP FX - The Empire Strikes Back Documentary
  • Original Theatrical Teaser Trailer (1978)
  • Theatrical Teaser Trailer #2 (1979)
  • Theatrical Teaser Trailer #2 (1979) - Scope version
  • Original Theatrical Trailer (1979)

    • Sound Design
    • The Challenges of EMPIRE
    • Darth Vader
    • Chewbacca
    • R2-D2
    • Lightsabers
    • The Imperial walkers
    • The Ultimate Explosion

  • The Flight Through the Asteroids: A Storyboard Comparison

Return of the Jedi:

  • Classic Creatures Documentary
  • Return of the Jedi - Theatrical Teaser/Test (1981) - Scope version
  • Return of the Jedi - Theatrical Teaser Trailer/Final Version (1981)
  • Return of the Jedi - Theatrical Trailer (1982)

    • The Endor Forest
  • Jedi Videomatics - A Moving Storyboard Narrated by Ken Ralston
  • “Lapti Nek” The Music Video from Jabba’s Palace

Also, sorry for bumping a very old discussion.

And it would be very nice if someone gave me answers on my questions.

Thanks in advance.

And I’ve loved every pixel of it.

Hello,
I own the Definitive Collection Star Wars LaserDisc box set. I’m looking for a digital download or DVD transfer / rip of this package. Does anyone know where I could get one?
Thank you

Why did you have to spam every LD thread from the last 17 years with this question?

Apologies. I’ve attempted to clean that up now.

For the sake of discussion:

I recently got a working laserdisc player. I had a chance to watch the Definitive Collection Star Wars laserdiscs.
I also had Star Trek: The Motion Picture The Special Longer Version on laserdisc. I tried my hand at my first laserdisc capture, to decent results I was happy with.

While researching how to do it, I came across something cool called The Domesday Project. It appears the British had a project (perhaps like the U.S. census?) where they had preserved some data and had stored it on laserdisc. The Domesday Project (to my understanding at least) takes a laserdisc and instead of using the disc player’s output and mechanics, an RF device captures the signal from the laser. I think they made a digital copy of the disc and then had a kind of virtual machine to play it. As I understood it, perhaps like an old video game emulator. They were able to get more resolution and data out of these RF captures than a straight capture from the output of the player.

Now, I realize we have far surpassed the laserdisc captures with Harmy’s Despcialzied and the 4K77 and 4K83 projects.
But, I was curious if anyone ever captured the Definitive Collection discs (or others) using this process. I know the Cowclops laserdisc captures were done on a very good player, Dr. Gonzo’s was also a good looking preservation. I’m curious if there would be any noticeable gain utilizing this method?

Mine is a working player but I’m aware there were nicer players capable of producing a picture superior to mine. It would be cool to see just how much more could be squeezed out of the Definitive Collection discs (and that Star Trek movie as well).

Just an idea which popped into my head, as I stated, for discussion purposes.

Happy New Year, all.
