I'm pissed that Paul Giamatti wasn't nominated for Sideways. That blows.

And while I didn't really expect it to happen, I would've been pleased if the Academy had nominated Paz Vega for Spanglish.

Well, many of their nominations were pretty on target with some pretty impressive surprises (Thomas Haden Church, sup actor, Sideways). I can't say I'm entirely upset save for Giamatti.

I wasn't terribly surprised, but I am expecting an Aviator sweep, just like the ROTK sweep last year.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

I don't think Aviator will sweep, though. Foxx has the actor cat all but locked up. That's one loss. And I'm hoping that many members of the Academy remember how horribly they f'd it up last year by giving the best director award to Peter Jackson when both Clint Eastwood and Sofia Coppola deserved it more. Maybe then they will give it to Eastwood this year for Million Dollar Baby as a sort of penance. There is an outside chance of that happening. I hope it does.

I'm not suprised by the nominations, except for Giamatti. He was the best thing about Sideways.
Aviator is a great movie directed by the greatest living director.
Sideways and Million Dollar Baby are both good character studies that stumble in their third acts.
Ray was a good, if not great bio. Jaime Foxx was superb in it.
Finding Neverland was a boring retread of Shakespeare in Love except with no nudity and a cancer subplot.
They did a good job with Best Actor(except Giamatti deserves to be there over pretty boy Depp), Actress, and Supporting Actress(except for Portman who reminded me of a department store mannequin in Closer. She was better in Garden State.)
Also, a few of my favorites(Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Before Sunset, Incredibles, and Hotel Rwanda) got nominations for writing.

Opinion: sometimes the academy seems to busy worried about promoting an agenda to award/nominate movies that deserve it.

Although, I am glad to see that Incredibles got a nomination for best writing, because that was hilarious.

Good example, or the fact that nobody got a nomination for acting in The Passion.

But seriously, the Titanic was a mildly entertaing film, but the hype was ridiculous. If she had just jumped at the beginning, she would have saved people a bunch of time and the point would have been the same: Being rich makes you suicidal.

Yeah, I agree. It was okay, but not what it was made out to be.

That whole scene was great until LeoDeCapRiO tried to save her. It would have been better if he let her fall, and then a magical Narwhal saved her.

Passion of the Christ was robbed. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was robbed, and so was Jim Carrey. Paul Giamatti was robbed. What can I say, other than "I'll not be watching the oscars this year."?
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering
