The Clones Were Originally Made From Jedi?

I remember back when Attack of the Clones first came out, my friend was telling me that he read somewhere that Lucas's original idea for the clone wars involved some enemy infiltrating the Jedi order with clones. Can anyone confirm or debunk this? I've checked Wookieepedia and this forum, and I can't find any reference to this concept anywhere.

I think that was a fan concept. Similar fan ideas were that Obi-Wan was a clone, with the designation OB-1. Ben Kenobi was the name of the Jedi who was cloned, or something like that.

There lots of fan theories involving what the clone wars were, the most common being that Palpatine gets the Mandalorians to clone themselves and invade the Republic. Another theory was that Palpatine has a bunch of clones of Darth Maul invade the Republic.

The idea was probably expanded from the Thrawn trilogy, which contains the clone Jedi Joruus C'Boath.

There was a tidbit in the book that either cloned Jedi, or clones made in a sped-up process were mentally unstable. I remember the former from reading the books; Wookieepedia tells the latter.

Around the time AOTC came out, I remember hearing two guys say that the clones were going to be clones of Anakin. I thought that was an interesting development. Then I saw AOTC and was subsequently underwhelmed by who the clones really were.

Kenner toys had a proposal for what the Clone Wars were in their rejected plan to continue the Star Wars toy line after ROTJ.

Somewhat off-topic:

When I saw TPM the first time, I thought first that Amidala's handmaidens were clones and that Palpatine and the Trade Federation was after Naboo's handmaiden-cloning technology. :-þ

Atha Prime and his double-decker star destroyer ... strange as it may seem, I actually consider it (semi) canon.

Woweth in my moweth! Never before hast such a thought found its way to my noggin. Almost rings sensical for good tales too.

Methinks many a rampant young lad might find certain other uses for such machinery though.

That's funny.... in the very first rough draft of SW 1977 (which was the overall template for TPM) Princess Leia's family does have cloning technology, and it is why the Empire is after her.

The same rough draft also has a handmaiden being given a distinctive necklace Leia usually wears, so the Empire will think she's actually the Princess. She's not a clone, though.

“That Darth Vader, man. Sure does love eating Jedi.”
