hi guys,

a quick update for you....i've just exported v2.0 out of womble. thanks to a recent bundle of images by Sluggo I've spent the last day organising every episode II image that I've got into scene order, so I can go through the whole thing again and see what I can use that I haven't yet. Believe it or not, inserting the images like I have been is actually harder than the live footage...at least with the live stuff I can just overlay it on top of the existing audio without having to generate time (I sound like a mad professor). Once I've done this and had a final QC then it's on to the subtitles

But once more, I need peoples help...those few that have the wip version - the beginning of the film...basically everything up to the introduction of Obi-Wan & Anakin is in my opinion the weakest part of the whole thing, but obviously I want to hit the ground running so to speak, grab peoples attention from the get go and make sure I keep it till the good stuff, so if anyone has any ideas, nows the time!

another question of opinion for you folks-

There's a few instances where i run footage twice, wether to show a difference in video or audio, but as it is I simply cut back. Is this too much of a jump do you think or would I be better of doing something similar to the trick JD uses in Building Empire and RTJ where he uses a white flash and a beep to jump back? Or possibly some kind of 'rewind' effect?

Whew!!!

I've just completed my third (and final!) frame by frame run through of this project, finalising everything and checking for mistakes. She's clocking in at 2:35 and looking sweet and ready to go....

....almost.

Next step now is to go through all the BTS stuff again, looking for suitable soundbites. Speaking of which, can anyone help me with ripping the commentary from the DVD? I still don't know if I'm going to go with this option, but if I don't see whats out there first then I can't make an informed decision.

And then its the subtitles, DVD creation, menus, extra, etc etc, will it never end

I say go in the direction of what JD has done.

Thanks for your input Adywan, but I've sorted something out for this that's used several times throughout the movie.

Quick update for everyone, I'm still gathering and inserting soundbites, I've up to the final battle at the mo, but am seriously considering not having any added commentary at all during this sequence and letting the video speak for itself

okay...IT'S DONE.....kind of

The main movie is finished, finito, ende.....except for one tiny thing.

SweHanson.....if you read this, can you please, please, please check you're PM's.

Bar this tiny last detail, all that remains is for me to work out how to add the subtitles, preferably in a similar style to that used by Jambe in his two projects.

Not long now guys....

d, could you send me a cap of the menu or any other items for the cover? Running time, etc. I'd like to get it done over the weekend so you can include it in a dvdrom menu before it goes out. Can't wait to see the final result.

okay, it's only the subtitles that are holding me up now, and I just can't seem to wrap my head around it. I can't get on with subtitle workshop, and DVD Lab Pro's own help file tells me that it's in-program subtitles aren't the best, so I need help. If anyone knows of an idiot-proof way to do this, or can walk me through it one step at a time, then I would be eternally grateful

When I had to create the English subtitles for the Johnny Mnemonic Japanese cut DVD, I found a program that I really like called DivXLand Media Subtitler.

Basically, you load in a video. Encode it to AVI first, just to do this with, so it doesn't have to look good. You just need it for time referencing. I had trouble working from MPEG2. Basically, you type in the caption you want, and hold down APPLY as the section of video you want the subtitle on plays. It'll write the timecode and you can export it to whatever format you need to import into DVD-lab (I did).

I just looked at the program, though, for the first time since I did that project and it's a bit more tedious than I remember. Still, though, it did produce results.

thats sound advice about using an avi file RB. I think that's what was causing me problems, trying to open a 4gb MPEG file in some of these programs

DVD Lab Pro works reasonably well with SRTs, Sabbu's a good program to time the subs with IMHO, it's what I use...

ARRGGHH!!! This is killing me!!!

As it stands I'm working with a test stream of only 3 subtitles for the opening scene just to make sure it works...which it dosen't!

I'm using Divx Media Subtitler to create my stream. That's all well and good. Saved as a .srt file...fine. Open up DVD Lab Pro - double click on teh subtitle stream in the Movie 1 window and import said .srt file. Again, all fine. I can see the subs I've created. Check the 'Set this subtitle ON by default' box and hit generate subtitle stream. And there it is under the video and the audio, one subtitle stream. and finally compile DVD.....and hey presto.....so you'd think!

I've been trying this all morning, tinkering with various checks and switches, but the end result is always the same, I open the video up in Power DVD to check it and what do I find.....NO BLOODY SUBTITLES!!!!

I'm seriously approaching the end of my tether here

Are you turning the subtitles on in PowerDVD? Perhaps that's the problem and not something in DVD-Lab?

they should be burned in, so I'm hoping. But yes I did try that and Power DVD didn't even recognises that there were any subs to turn on

You're sure you have "Display Subtitles" checked in PowerDVD?

Also, the positioning could be off when you set it in DVD-lab. Make sure it's not off the screen somewhere.
