The Clone Wars: Refocused [COMPLETE] + Subtitles for season one! — Page 92

Just skimmed through Retribution and thought the AI voices worked well! Don’t know if it would have been noticeable for someone who didn’t know. Did you apply any kind of EQ effect to give it the radio/comm voice effect? Couldn’t really tell. But since Dooku’s voice is being distorted by the hologram anyway, it kinda sells any artifacts of the voice processing as “signal interference”. I feel like this episode is a great of the whole concept of this project. Combine two episodes to make them better, and using the power of editing to create thematic parallels that didn’t even exist before. Pretty cool stuff.

Ok then- let me know the time in my edit that she’s called by name and I’ll replace it with Stass Allie’s if I can, or cut around it if not.

Why not just change the episode number so the Citadel arc happens before the Pirates one? Or the opposite, having the Pirates episode after the Citadel arc? They’re very close apart already, shouldn’t cause any narrative problem. Otherwise, it’s gonna be very weird having “Allie” mentioned or just seen here and then… never showing up again.

So the AI voice for Dooku sounds good, but the problem is its a bit louder and possibly more clear than his dialogue just before and its noticeable. Also his lips move for a second after he says “and deal with the Jedi swiftly”. I would instead have him say, “and deal with the Jedi swiftly, general” to have an extra word over the lip movement. Overall, I think this is a very good idea and connects the two episodes well but it needs a little more polish.

Okay, I just realized you added more than I thought. So in the second hologram call scene Dookus voice is very tinny when it switches to the new line, harshly contrasting with the line just before.

When Kit says “his heart was in the right place” the music noticeably changes. The same issue happens over Yodas line but slightly less noticeably.

I love what you’ve done. you just gotta put a little more polish on it.

Honestly an option could be to have all of dookus dialogue in those scenes/ the entire episode be from AI and then add the eq effect or what haves you. So it’s all consistent with eachother.

I am of the same opinion.

Citadel isn’t part of the recommended cut of TCW:R, so it doesn’t get to impose changes on the higher priority episodes. I wouldn’t worry about Jedi appearing or disappearing, since they already do that a bunch throughout the original show and this one. I’ll see what I can do to remove the contradiction in Citadel, though.

The new changes in S02E02 - RETRIBUTION (V2.1) all work well and improve the episode imo!

I think Grevious screaming then cutting away to Fisto and the council is a bit clunky (maybe the cut could happen after Dooku’s new dialogue?) Overall, very minor criticism. It also feels a bit out of place to me now that Dooku no longer scolds him. Though it’s not a stretch to interpret it as a war cry.

I think all the new Dooku dialogue is well written and sounds like Dooku. I think it needs some static distortion effects to help it blend in with the original dialogue though. I’d be happy to play around with it if you sent me the raw dialogue audio files.

No editor’s ‘gotta’ do anything buddy, this is a hobby whose outputs we share with the community, not an obligation. But I will take a look at further polish.

I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to imply that you actually have to fix it, I just meant that in order for it to work that is what you have to do. You don’t have to make it work, but that is what you’re trying to do, so that was why I gave you the criticism.

Just to clarify, I didn’t intend to offend you or cause any trouble when I mentioned the “Adi Gallia chronological misstep.” My intention was simply to bring it to your attention in case it was something that you might find bothersome. I want to emphasize that watching Clone Wars in this particular fanedit format remains my preferred method, and I am genuinely appreciative that such a fanedit exists.

Hmmmm… An idea is forming.

Others have edited Rebels, both as movies and as TV-length episodes, but I wonder if there’s a worthwhile Rebels edit to be made specifically within the context of TCW, as an aftermath to this project - especially as an Ahsoka-focused recap in advance of her upcoming show.

I’m thinking specifically of focus on Ahsoka and Vader up to and including the season two finale, with a little more to make it a cohesive movie. It would transition nicely from Ahsoka and Maul’s last appearances (in the TCW finale and Ahsoka’s coda where she fights an inquisitor and joins the rebellion via Bail Organa) into her main actions during the rebellion - fighting Inquisitors, protecting force-sensitive younglings, and facing Maul and Vader. I’d also include her being pulled through the world between worlds to combat Palpatine there (but only from her perspective).

It’d be something like:

  • Opening crawl to expain a little of the Rebellion, and that Ahsoka and Rex have joined the Phoenix Squadron rebel cell (which include a Jedi and padawan who survived the purge), but that they and all Jedi are hounded by Inquisitors - and Vader himself.
  • Open on a scene from Fire Across the Galaxy, where Vader has tracked the Rebels, and they fight in the air, and Ahsoka senses Vader.
  • Into The Future of the Force, where after the establishing scenes, we cut back to Ahsoka investigating Vader, before moving on with the Inquisitor vs babies plot. Epic moment where Ahsoka lights her white blades.
  • Skip the opening of Shroud of Darkness (Jedi vs Inquisitors) and go into its second scene, where they discuss the threat of the Inquisitors (now having just fought them during the younglings story). Into the Jedi temple, for Yoda and the drive to go to Malachor.
  • Brief scenes from The Mystery of Chopper Base, where the planet is discovered and the main Jedi leave.
  • Into Twilight of the Apprentice, with all that fun drama and the threat of Vader, but having Ahsoka at the end rescued by future Ezra from A World Between Worlds. They explore that space (though we skip her seeing Kanan’s death) and she returns back, for the powerful ending scenes of that episode.

I feel like it’d work really nicely as an alternative to Rebels. It doesn’t expand on the rest of the Rebels crew at all, but it’d be the Ahsoka aftermath for those who want specifically that. It leaves some fun lingering threads to pull on if the viewer then chooses to pick up Rebels after, without spoiling much of that story.

We’d skip seeing Ahsoka join the crew, and her actions in the season one premiere, plus the episodes where Rex is hired. But otherwise, this’d be her full Rebels story. I wouldn’t add the show’s epilogue scene set after Endor, since that’s more about the full Rebels crew, and I’ve got a feeling it’s going to be replaced by Ahsoka’s content.

It would also follow the Kenobi series nicely, which introduces the Inquisitors, has that similar Vader/Obi-Wan conclusion, and leads nicely into the final-final coda with Maul vs Obi-Wan. The coda would also benefit from a little more introduction of Ezra in this proposed movie.

I think it sounds great, especially since we have a new Ashoka series on the horizon

My biggest issue is I don’t know how well The World Between Worlds will work without the ground work Rebels lays to introduce it. I feel like it will come across as a random deus ex machina that is thrown in to get her out of the dire circumstance without any explanation as to what it is or how Ezra found his way there.

I think this is a great idea! Skipping Ahsoka and Rex being recruited is smart as both of those arks focus on the Ghost crew. Feel free to use any of the work I’ve done on Rebels as a basis (if you want). I’m interested to see what you come up with if you decide to make it! 😄

(RE)RELEASED - S03E08 - Dissent on Umbara (v2.0)

  • RELEASE VERSION, now brought up to my more polished v2.0 standard.
  • Our eighth episode of season three.
  • (Note the new ordering if you’ve been away from my edit for a while.)
  • Comprising the original episodes Darkness on Umbara, The General, Plan of Dissent, and Carnage of Krell.
  • Running 52 minutes.
  • DOWNLOAD LINK is in the tracker spreadsheet, PM me for access.
  • Note: It’s recommended that you download this before watching, rather than streaming it directly from Google Drive.

A very popular episode, with gorgeous graphics and a good meaty shades-of-grey plot.

Noteworthy changes:

  • This episode is titled ‘Dissent on Umbara’, mainly because I wanted to preserve the name Umbara (as I’ve done with many of the most popular arcs) and, y’know, dissent.
  • Regarding placement, this originally aired around the middle of the show, and I’ve pushed it just a little more towards the ending. Mostly to balance the season, but also because it’s time to start refocusing on complicated clones, and it shows both Dooku and the Republic getting more desperate.
  • I use the opening text to emphasise the Republic’s limited supply of clones (thanks Padmé), and keep the Umbara plot clear.
  • Structurally, I’ve made quite a lot of trims - though I’d hope that the episode feels the way you remember it. The original arc had a lot of action, which looked gorgeous but really didn’t serve the plot, and watching it as four episodes I think it really drags and the pacing suffers. I’ve chopped a bunch to let the emotional core shine through, but with far tighter pacing, whilst still keeping this as a very action-heavy episode that showcases the gorgeous graphics. In particular I trimmed the combat-heavy opening where Anakin’s leading the clones, up till Krell takes over, and I only had Krell send the clones on one suicide mission (versus the walker tanks) rather than also in a straight line against the capital. All the meat, a quarter of the time.
  • But yes, for those of you who miss it, I will eventually release an extended version with all the combat back in.
  • I trimmed a little of the infiltration of the airbase as well as some of the surrounding combat and discussion.
  • After the clones take the airbase, I trimmed some of the discussion there, most notably removing the scene where they test and crash the aircraft, because it doesn’t change the status quo.
  • Throughout, I trimmed most of Krell’s more overtly villainous hatred of Clones, making it seem (at least early on) more like he’s just a hardliner with extreme tactics.
  • In the final episode, I preserved the majority of it, mainly just cutting down the hunt for Krell in the forest to remove his cartoonishly evil villain speech and to speed up his capture, while preserving a lot of his physical threat. I also slightly trimmed his jail dialogue to imply he’s already a Separatist rather than just doing this all on the hope he’ll get recognised. I think this all tightens up his character nicely, whilst keeping him ultimately the same.
