The Clone Wars: Refocused [COMPLETE] + Subtitles for season one! — Page 43

While I was thinking about Citadel, I decided to watch Grievous Intrigue, in order to see if those two could be merged, since that thought came up recently.

They can’t. Grievous Intrigue is more about the rescue of Eeth Koth than his capture, so he can’t really be swapped out for Even Piell.

I then watched Deserter too, just for fun. I think there’s a decent enough Complete Cut episode here which is Grievous Intrigue then the Grievous/Obi-Wan parts of The Deserter, though with the battle droid bants heavily trimmed. It’s definitely not worthy of the Quality Cut though, it’s just not that important or great. Obi-Wan even says at the end “well we’re back exactly where we started”.

Speaking of The Deserter, the actual Deserter plot in that really is super. As discussed I think it’s sensible to merge that with the Gregor plot from Droids in the Void, and the traitor plot from Hidden Enemy. I think I’ll present this as ‘Tales of the Lost Clones’, in the order ‘Lost in Spirit’ (traitor), ‘Lost in Mind’ (Gregor), ‘Lost in Body’ (Deserter). I think I’ll pull this episode forward into my season two, for pacing and because it’s not been a clone-heavy season, so it’s OK to chuck in a clones-but-not-main-characters episode. This gives us a single punchy ‘clones are individuals’ episode, and highlights Rex as the ‘main’ clone character for the audience.

Note: This probably means I won’t merge traitor clone / stealth ship into a ‘Return to Christophsis’ episode.

Should be doing some more polish of my early episodes again tonight.

Re-released - S01E01 - The New Padawan v1.5 - Fully polished release version

Comprising my Christophsis episode, new changes as above.

V1.5 link is in the spreadsheet, PM for access.

Watched „The New Padawan“ again.

  • i’ve the feeling the bail organa scene adds nothing, especially because we got no reaction from anakin to his comment
  • still feel the episode ending to credits should be a hard cut visually and no fade out.

No framedrops occured to me.

Thanks CMMAP. It’ll be great if I managed to catch all the rogue frames. I agree that the Bail ending is pretty light- he actually doesn’t get a reaction from Anakin in the original either- but I think it’s worth keeping just as a light capper to what came before, which I think is a bit more additive than not having it. Plus I’d like to preserve as much Bail as possible since he’s important to my favourite edits of episode 3, plus potentially more new content due between 3 and 4. I’ll see if a hard cut out of the episode works better too- would you suggest that for all episodes, or just this one?

your overall intention for bail organa is the right decision. for me personally just not in this episode.

A general hard cut on all episodes? Mh, it depends but overall i think this could work. Just for the video of course, as a consequence the audio would’ve to come in faster or as near as to a hard audio fade in as possible.
but i’ve to look into the other episodes to get a feeling for this idea. an sample could be helpful.

Maybe not the most helpful comment, but I certainly didn’t expect the Boba story to end with him in prison (?) and the Slave I blowed up.
I enjoyed the episode, though!

I was just looking over old comments and had a new thought about this:

We only see Boba a few times in TCW, the first of which being this one where he ends up in prison. There’s a later episode where we see him very clearly still in prison, but then a later episode where he’s out of prison, and it’s not explained why. You’d imagine that all of those activities carried quite a large sentence, but somehow he’s released. I might see what I can do about the second episode (the Rako Hardeen arc for those who know it) to see if I can draw on an angle which results in Boba’s escape.

Thanks Hal. In fact, apologies folks, but I think I’m going to take a mental health day today. I was intending to spend this weekend fixing up the polish backlog but yesterday I had some unpleasant personal stuff happen and it needs a little processing and then a bit more of a descent into comfort for the rest of the day. All relatively minor, and it’s nothing that’ll impact this project in the long term, but right now it’ll just slow me down by a week or so more than expected.

Since Bossk is one of the main instigators of the prison riot in the Rako Hardeen arc, I don’t think it’s that big of a stretch to assume both him and Boba found their way out off-screen amidst the chaos.

That’s perfect buddy, unspoilt newbies will definitely be really valuable. Once I start releasing I intend to do one weekly- it’d be great to have your feedback as it airs “live”.

Sorry for the necro but as mentioned, I am not really looking through this thread to actually remain “detached”.
Given that you seemingly have taken me up on my offer, can I then expect a PM at some point or how exactly will I be contacted once it is time?

For seventeen years the renegade Pfhor scoutship jumped between the closely packed stars of the galactic core. And all over the ship, dancing through the wreckage of the Pfhor computer core, Durandal was laughing…

Ah, apologies Vidmaster. That plan has now changed, and I’m now releasing them as and when I complete them. This was done to take the pressure off, though I am releasing them quicker than one a week right now. Seventeen episodes are available now, so you’re welcome to pick them up whenever you like and give whatever feedback you like, though perhaps if you’d be interested you could look at them season by season - that way you’d get a digestible ten at a time, and they’d be the finalised polished versions, but you could give us feedback on how they play as ‘units’? Totally up to you of course, anything you’d offer is welcome.

Looks like the the link to s1e1 got propagated to s1e2 and s1e3 as well. I like the new naming scheme though!

I’ve been waiting for the polished versions to check these out and started watching ep 1 today. A couple notes: the opening shot of the drifting ship in The New Padawan (v1.6) is messed up (flickering, looping). Also, who’s supposed to be saying “what are you?” because it looks like pre vizsla but definitely doesn’t sound like him.

Author
Time

A few people have said that about the voice, but weirdly enough that is Pre Viszla, from that very scene.

But fair enough if it isn’t coming across as attached to that scene.

I’ll check the looping opening, thanks!

Just watched the 501st Legion episode, so here are my thoughts:

Loved the carry over from Malevolence that they’re still looking for Grevious, and the Rishi system is where Grevious is hiding. With that added context, it helps propel the plot forward in a natural way and helps tie the Rishi base plot to the Malevolence episode and the assault on Kamino. Everything was well paced and the transitions between episodes felt natural. Even though the Kamino battle is from a later season (and has better animation), it never felt out of place. The only place where something felt off was during the scene on the bridge between the clones being rescued on Rishi Station and the assault on Kamino. Specifically, 26:48-27:15 is where the audio seems a hair our of sync (Rex starts talking a hair too soon), was noticable with Rex’s first line and Obi-Wans line “The Separatists are taking quite the chance, considering this.” Overall though, it worked wonderfullly pacing-wise and plot-wise.

Glad you liked it, sonofabinadi, thanks for the feedback. I’m polishing that episode now - it was the one I lost 2h of work on - so you just missed a slightly better version of the episode. But I’ll check that slightly off audio.

Since we’re talking about it, here’s what I was fixing and how:

  • Echo and Fives meet 99 scene: Without the win earlier in the episode, there was no medal for Hevy to give to 99, so no option to have 99 look sadly at the medal when he’s told that Hevy has died. But I was able to extend this moment out a little longer to let the sadness linger a bit more. It’s a bit brief, but I think that’s as much as you can get out of the scene, if you’re trimming the first act heavily like I did.
  • I also trimmed some of the audio in that scene that implied a long passage of time (whilst retaining the audio that implied an undetermined passage of time).
  • And one other part I quite enjoyed, was cutting together the audio a little, so 99 now says “Echo! Fives! … brothers.” It lands really nicely. Originally it was “Echo! Fives!” “You actually remember us!” “I remember all my brothers.” But the way he delivers ‘brothers’ feels fine after a brief pause after ‘Echo, Fives’, and matches his facial acting, as if he’s kind of shy and excited to address them that way, because he knows he has a special bond with the Domino Squad guys.
  • Since I don’t mind the worm on the Rishi moon being a suprise to the audience (at least at the cost of a relatively long sequence to introduce it before that), I needed some other way to kill off Cutup and have the numbers add up. I cut the audio of the battle droids saying “four escaped”, then just carefully trimmed the assault scenes, so only three clones are seen to leave. Implicitly, he died during the corridor fighting around the time when Sarge died. I think that’s fine.
  • I extended the “TWO WEEKS LATER” card over black to give it longer to land.

I need to redo some of these cuts but it’ll be done again soon.

  • s01e05 - Domino Squad (v1.2) is rendering/uploading now.
  • s01e01 - Christophsis (v1.7) will follow. The stuttering start must just have been a rendering error because it’s not in the edit.
  • s01e05 - Cloak of Darkness (v1.2) will follow, with literally just its credits fixed

Then I think tonight I’ll review the Padmé chunk of episodes which I’ll produce next (after finishing the polish pass).

The Clone Wars: Refocused | Andor: Movie Omnibus

I’m about to embark on those Padmé episodes, and one thought I’ve had up front is that generally her episodes suck, but her speeches are great. I’m going to use as much Padmé content as I can, because she deserves a good crack at having a presence in this show, but I don’t think she’ll end up with many episodes.

In that case, one solution might be to put her best bits - kind of devoid of context - in other episodes. What’re your thoughts on that?

I guess there’s either:

  1. Don’t do that, if Padmé can’t have proper episodes, her content will sadly not be used
  2. Try to stick the odd interesting Padmé scene in other episodes, even if it’s not really relevant to that episode
  3. Try to find Padmé B-plots and interleave them into other episodes, which would split the audience’s focus

Not sure on best approach here…
