The Changes That Nobody Talks About — Page 2

Another change that many fans miss is the Luke's wink to the Jedi Ghosts.  In the OOT version, he gives a quick wink to the ghosts as he walks away with Leia.  In the 1997, 2004, 2011 versions, the wink is gone?

I don't know why Lucas would take that out, because it was cool little nod to the older jedi from Luke.  Reason #356 why you don't f**k with original versions of movies!

He winked? Never noticed it. Ever.

Thanks for high-lighting it (considering that "many fans" miss it, this is the first I've ever heard of it) because it sounds bloody awful. Winking at ghosts, indeed.

One reason for changes going unnoticed is that the most recent round of alterations has made the Blurays so bad, nobody even wants to watch them in the first place.

Nobody here, you mean. You ought to get out more.

Between Harmy and Adywan there is no need to ever watch any current George Lucas version of the OT ever again.  FTR, I am totally into discussing the positive changes made by either of these people to the OT.

Well, here isn't the place to do it. To wit, this thread was intended to discuss the official changes made to the official releases of the films. Ta.

While we're talking about oddly ADR'ed Lando lines, how about that weird echoing "That was too close!" (always sounds like he's saying "tooth loose") line from the Death Star II run later in the movie? Never fails to stick out to me.

Maybe it was an overdub?

It is a cool nod that Luke does to the Force Ghost as he gives them a quick wink at the end of the movie.

Not sure if you meant Lucas changing it is bloody awful, or the wink is bloody awful?

It surprises me, though, that on a forum such as this, where fans will pick up on anything and everything (from colour coding to the different fonts used for the subtitles), no-one appears to have noticed the dialogue change that I mentioned. Or has it become de rigeur to just post endlessly about the changes that we don't like? Perhaps that's why the audio cock up with the music during the Death Star battle on the DVD of A New Hope drew so much stick and yet, when Matthew Woods changed it back to how it was originally, there was barely a murmour.

He is lucky to have not been fired in the first place.  Fixing it is a bare minimum expectation.  He is lucky if he got paid to fix it, since it was his mistake.  Why does that even need mention much less praise?

The sound of that line is as he would say it in an empty room.

That's still no excuse! You should all be talking about something you are unlikely to know about!

Fixing one issue while changing many other aspects of the films right down to re-editing fights for no reason really distracts from the part that was fixed. It's like fixing a crack in the back of a chair but then taking a chainsaw to the legs. Yeah they fixed the crack but the chair isn't exactly in good shape.

You might want to check the thread title again. Plenty of other places to moan about the changes you don't like :)

You also might want to check the thread title again.  It doesn't say anything about liking or disliking changes.

I'll moan where ever I damn well please thank you very much! Nothing in the rules here against moans! http://i.imgur.com/g3b1O.gif

Seriously though, you asked a question, I responded. Simple as that. Not sure why you're considering that "moaning"...

I thought it was established that hey didn't fix it and it's only 'fixed' on the extras.

I don't know as I won't purchase the blu-ray until Adywan makes it necessary for me to do so.

I'm just feeding the troll.  The last SE product I bought was the 2004 Wars for the theatrical release.  When I saw the quality, I didn't bother with ESB and ROTJ.

It's a pity we have to do that. I guess I'll just have to think of it as paying for Adywan's edit. If only he got the money....

But, if we talk about the changes that nobody talks about, that means somebody has now talked about them...

If that means Easterhay's posts get deleted, so much the better.  That guy's as full of it as a constipated septic tank.

This, of course, begs the question: if Disney do this mythological restoration, what would the "restored" version be? Which sound mix would it use? Which "changes" would it retain and which wouldn't it?

Maybe something akin to the Close Encounters blu.

Or maybe the Blade Runner 5 versions set. Just restore all of them :)

While not exactly a change "That Nobody Talks About" (More something that isn't talked about / cared about enough)...

...is the opening Logos. To me, it just isn't Star Wars if it doesn't start with the beautiful original hand painted Fox logo and the clean crisp green of the original Lucasfilm logo (That stylistically matches the simple blue of the "far, Far, away" titles). Presenting Star Wars with the ersatz CGI logo(s) and overly showy new Lucasfilm logo is a total disconnect in film styles. They are films from the late70s/early80s so they need to have titles that match frm that era.

It's really important to me and not having them will slightly spoil ESB:R inevitably... I'm sure my disappointment will be swiftly overcome though ;-)

As much as I love the Lucasfilm logo from a design standpoint, I agree with Mr. McAvoy.

George had a right to change star wars whether we like it or not is another thing.

What i would challenge him on had i the chance to do so is re-editing someone else's film.  Now on empire even though he gave Kersh final cut he redid empire in 1997 and onward, but since Kersh allowed that i will let that slide.  But Marquand was dead and he had also been given final cut by Lucas but had his film changed posthumously by the director of the first film also known as star wars.
