My concern with Cad Bane is that they pull a Walking Dead with him where they introduce a heavy into one part of the franchise and then kill him off in the next episode. Even though I am not a TCW fan it would be a real slap in the face to that part of the fanbase if they did that…and the way things are going I can see that happening.

They sure are smart enough to not do that. I predict he’ll face off with Boba in the finale but will survive. Cad Bane could very well serve as an overarching villain if there’s a season 2. He has ties to both Boba and Fennec that go way back (TCW and Bad Batch series).

What’s up with the good stuff = Favreau and Filoni are the saviours of Star Wars, bad stuff = must be evil Disney and their corporate meddling narrative? There’s no evidence that what we’re getting isn’t just exactly what Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Robert Rodriguez etc. chose to make. If anything, after the success of Mando S01, the impression given by the investor’s day presentation the other year was that Kathy Kennedy just green-stamped all their ideas lol. It’s not like Dave Filoni doesn’t have a history of forgetting what he was doing with a show and just reintroducing all the characters from the last one and continuing their stories instead. Sometimes good writers make some not so great content. Luckily, there’s enough Star Wars content in the pipeline that the occasional show being a bit flat doesn’t really trouble me.

This was a fun episode of The Book of Whichever Established Characters Are About During This Era, and having Luke and Ahsoka chat (albeit very briefly and not at all covering any of the huge amount of history she knows about Anakin and the Jedi) at long last stimulated my neurons, but I can’t help but feel like I’d probably rather this stuff had been saved for Mando S03, since this is now a fairly incoherent season of television. I can’t see them paying off the actual story about Boba Fett in enough depth with just one episode to go, but maybe it’ll be great.

I think they are doing great with these two series which to me are basically one thing.

I actually laughed out loud when they showed the 3D printer droids making things as I am a huge fan of world building and that scene, well…

So far, BOBF has been pretty disappointing, and this is my least favorite episode so far. CGI Luke is an abomination.

I actually thought Luke looked much better this time, and I’m glad they’ve improved on the technology. It meant an episode which featured mostly him was actually tolerable.

Except, I’m with you in feeling that this is the worst episode yet. It’s hard to wrap my head around how an episode can have so much good stuff in it yet be so fundamentally terrible. Throwing this storyline into a series that’s meant to be following a different storyline only damages both.

Using CGI and AI voice to recreate the look and sound of actors is one of those things where I don’t care how high quality the effect is, I just don’t like the idea of it and I don’t think it should be done at all. On a purely technical level, the cgi in this episode was very impressive. But I still don’t like it. It just feels wrong and awkward.

A very good episode. CGI Luke sometimes excellent. Impressive voice. As much as I liked the flashback-heavy episodes, the present-day characterization of Fett has been weak. This is not helped by pushing him aside for two episodes, which also does a disservice to Temuera Morrison who does a good job when given something of substance.

The blue elephant in the room.

For me, the real story of The Book of Boba Fett that the producers really wanted to tell all along was the flashbacks. And that’s it. However, the scope of it would be too small to justify a series, so they resolved to continue Mandalorian series through The Daimyo storyline (what they dragged A LOT). Let’s be honest here, the flashbacks could be encapsulated in two episodes and the Daimyo in one episode if we skipped the fillers/Mandalorian storylines, and with the season finale would be a total of 4 episodes worth of real story focusing on Boba and Fennec vs the Pyke Sindicate.

The Hutts, the biker gang, the mayor and his assistant, the Rancor… Mostly of the scenes
involving these characters are filler. We could just have the Hutts giving the rancor as an incentive for Boba to resolve the Pike’s problem for them, then Boba and Fennec chat about the muscle thing, Boba recruiting BK in the bar and the biker gang in that alley and finally Boba’s reunion with the crime lords of Tatooine. That pretty much would sum up the story from the first four episodes of BOBF in the present day. Episodes 5 and 6 has scenes worth too to Boba storyline, but very few.

Bottom line is this tv show has been completely disjointed and weirdly produced. I don’t watch that many modern shows but from my experience I have never seen something like that, with such a poor narrative structure, such poor character objectives, unclear world building (I really don’t care about the Pike syndicate, the biker gang, the mayor, etc.: everything is highly uninteresting since the very beginning).

If the future of the SW tv shows is just to get animated characters confrontations to please fan around weak scripts that cannot actually finish any arc begun in previous series, I’m getting worried by OWK series which is probably gonna deliver the same kind of « let’s put everything fan want to see and no pressure about linking all of that with a script ».

I thought we were gonna explore the underworld of the post Empire era and all I got was Boba being merciful and Luke training a puppet to jump 👀

(WTF is that ?!?)

I agree. This is probably the worst structure to a TV show I have ever seen.

I know we have one more episode to go, maybe it’ll be awesome to watch and the Luke and Grogu stuff will actually connect to what is supposed to be the main plot, but I feel like it’s fair to say The Book of Boba Fett is my least favourite star wars series. I didn’t think they could do worse than The Bad Batch in my eyes but they’ve somehow managed it.

I hope I’m not raining on the parade of anyone who really enjoyed the episode - I can see why you did and am happy for you! But personally this show has me worried for how future series will connect to each other.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHu5uYXYLFs just watched this
well, it’s not a boba fett series anymore i guess, just our weekly Star Wars adventure, but i don’t a f*, i just want my Star Wars to be fun and cool at this point, if I get a good story with meaning that makes me think it’s a bonus.
BUT HEY IT’S CAD BANE!!! DO YOU REMEMBER HIM FROM THE CLONE WARS??

(also, i want to talk about how the de-aged Luke was impressive to me in this episode, Shamook was a fine addition to ILM collection, we’re almost at a point that doesn’t matter if the actor is dead or old, and that’s super scary and bizarre, but also kind of cool tbh)

I loved chapter 5. Chapter 6 was quite uneven but still one of the more enjoyable episodes of this show. Luke looked surprisingly great most of the time. The lip movements were still odd when he talked and the voice was hit or miss to me. And it made no sense for him to adhere to the “no attachments” dogma of the old Jedi (surely they have a plan to explain this? Right?) but overall it was cool to see Luke building his school and training Grogu.

Maybe I’m just too stuck in old pre-Disney lore but wasn’t Han running spice for Jabba? And now all of a sudden spice running is a big no-no on Tatooine? I feel like they haven’t given enough explanation about why this is such a contentious issue. Especially in a lawless, crime-lord controlled place where drug running seems like it’d be par for the course. And what little they have given us seems to indicate it’s more than just a turf war type of problem. Fett and Vanth both clearly don’t want spice anywhere near their territory. But we don’t know why.

I agree with pretty much ALL the complaints about this show. For me the two biggest issues are 1) Fett himself not being decisive or tough enough and 2) the overall disjointed writing and editing of the show.

But I’m starting to accept it for what it is (a subpar, poorly planned/written show with some really cool stuff sprinkled throughout) and just enjoying the good bits. It’s still more fun to watch than the prequels or sequels.

I’ve seen a lot of talk online about Cad Bane’s pale skin colour being wrong when compared top TCW, but people seem to forget that he should be roughly in his 70s by the time of BOBF. Of course we have no idea how the Duros age, but I got the impression that it was meant to give him an aged appearance. Either way, he is blue, so I don’t really care. What does irk me a little bit though is how his voice has less of an electronic feel to it. They did the same to the Pykes and I don’t get why. Though this is also just a nitpick, and overall I just think its cool that they got the original voice actor back (though that hardly came as a surprise).

Very nice find! That’s the biggest edit I’ve seen made to Bane’s face so far. From the distant shots for whatever reason I don’t like the edited version so much, but in the close-ups it looks great.

Yeah, it’s awesome! I still don’t understand why ILM launches an episode and one day after emerges a video showing better effects than the show itself. First was Luke in Mando season 2, now Cad Bane.

The skin color really isn’t so much an issue with me. His face is too bulky, should be a lot narrower than it was presented. Also the mouth placement and size of the eyes is wayyy off.

I am all for practical effects over using CGI, especially for the aliens. But I also think Disney has leaned way too into strictly practical. His mouth placement makes sense when lined up on a human actor. But it still looks off because of it. Disney needs to start implementing CGI as touch up’s for this sort of thing and stop being so intent on trying to right the wrongs of the prequel’s.

I’m no expert on vfx but I have to believe it’s at least in part because ILM already did the lion’s share of the work and you tubers are just touching up what already exists. Plus the YouTube clips are usually just a few seconds or one shot vs doing a whole episode or scene

Yeah, I see what you mean, though I personally don’t mind small alterations like this if it means we’ll get more practical effects. It’s a bit like the smaller lenght of Ahsoka’s head tails.

Also CG touch-ups isn’t all that easy, especially if there isn’t an obvious “seam” to follow, hence why VFX companies usually do creature faces as either fully CG or fully practical.

That’s a shame. I had hoped they might be able to make Ahsoka’s head tails longer with cgi for shots where she’s doing stunts. For non-stunt shots she could just have a completely practical prosthetic with longer head tails, but a prosthetic where they’re cut off for stunts. That was my thinking.

I just don’t like how Ahsoka currently looks in live action and hope we’ll be back to good old animated Ahsoka soon enough.

Guy is still wearing the same clothes since TCW. And he literally comes out of the blue. Not sure Filoni intended the pun though.
