Golden sections are good and well but there is still a lot to be said for the power of a centred (or near centred) circle.

Above all, remember that although concepts like the rule of thirds should certainly inform, framing shots is ultimately an art.
Im with Mr J.
Pushing something into a better comp is the result of a more stylized result. Something more like a cutting edge if i can say that. Find the besterer way to show something ;)
Star wars is full of centered shots when it comes to show something.
There's something really, really great about the centered pod ejection shot, and not just because it's classic Star Wars, first effects shot they filmed, etc.
The nostalgia/originality part is not one of my principals as you said also. Again always following the emotion of art when needs a shot. Pushing the envelope each time is hard and finding ways to alter hard framed images to something else. Think limited=get limited Think new=get new. New is not always better but you can find the correct balance through time and feedback :)

Heres the video, alterations to background as suggested by Angel, as I also said this background can be modified (relatively easily), theres gonna be sky traffic and perhaps smoke from chimneys etc

Screencaps do not do your work justice. That video was amazing!!
"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Thanks EyeShotFirst,
Still room for improvement

Slightly off topic but if anyone were to want move Luke and Ghost Ben's conversation on Dagobah from ROTJ to his hut on Tatooine that might be a handy tool for getting the backgrounds right, using HD captures of the set from ANH.
That truly is amazing, no doubt it will be expensive as hell being autodesk, but it would definitely be worth it. Think of the applications, you could make a damn good movie in that.

Here's something that might be interesting to see. Actaully I just read this idea from a comment on tfn who was speaking about a comment someone made on aicn....lol, ideas travel.
"Jabba should have been one of those blue holograms, so Han could walk around it without any solid bit of tail in his path."
I can't recall reading about this before in here so I just figured I'd throw it out there. I guess it would entail reworking the scene a bit and somehow turning the solid Jabba into a hologram. And potentially making it so Han walks straight as opposed to stepping up.
Not sure if its even possible though.
It's possible but to make the scene truly useful it would still need a change to the subtitles so he doesn't just repeat what 'Gringo' had already said.

yeah, I think it was suggested on this thread, sounds like a good idea, some of the lower quality footage around Dermot but inside the outline of Jabba could be used to show the transparency of the hologram, wonder if the whole Dermot shot will be an extra on the BD

Well, it hasn't been on any of the lists we've seen. :-/
There is the line in ESB where it's explained that they are having trouble adapting the speeders for the cold.
This suggests to me that they aren't purpose built for the new base so it might be an idea to have some slightly differently looking 'jungle' Speeders escort the Falcon to it's landing site on Yavin IV.
Or identical to the ones on Hoth. It's not a bad idea at all.Bingowings said:

Being a military aircraft wouldn't a Yavin speeder look different to a Hoth speeder?
Would it use camouflage like a military helicopter for instance?
Salute the new Star of Death that Jaitea will do his magic.
Some revisions on the proportions and textures are possible when someone can point them for the greater good. :)
Light behaviour is temp for those who might point that is dark.

that would be cool, but camouflage doesn't feature much on the hoth snowspeeders, and with that logic all the spaceships would be painted black.
star wars is above the parameters of our petty logic!

I love that Death Star! It's very dark and ominous. The angle, of course, makes it look like it's looming over everyone. Can't wait to eventually see this in Jaitea's edit.

Some more testing. Hoping Mr j will rid the poor tie fighters.
Note that is only a test shot. Might be different and more grand ;)
Some minor adjustments were done :) I will prepare some new light files so the Star of death will not be so dense lighted all the time.
Feedback is always welcome if something is or look wrong :)
