When doing the edit of Episode 3 in the future please add Palpatines shuttle with the 2 tie fighters on approach to Mustafar

This scene was from the trailer and shoudl not have been cut.

Finding a suitable audio in 5.1 is going to be hard since the trailer was release in glorious 2.0

That may be a problem.

?? why in the Episode 2 edit did you not add the conversation between Anakin and Obi--Wan on the street of Coruscant.

ie: "But you haven't learned anything yet" was it the source? It should have not been cut in the first place.

Thanks

Remember, Highlander, you’ve both still got your full measure of life. Use it well, and your future will be glorious.

Alot of people don't know about it, and it was a cut I worked on for a very long time. The problem is that in the trailer, they 'quick cut' from line to line. Meaning the 'but' it cut out and it's a real quick jump from Anakin to Obi Wan. There is also the music in the background from the trailer. I had it almost perfect before I got 'the virus' that wiped out my video drive. Anyways, if anyone wants to try it, as I've abandoned any such cut, is to take the scene. Somehow add an extra few frames in of Anakin after he finishes his line. Try slowing the last second down after he finishes his words to make it about 2 seconds or something like that. Anyways, to solve the music problem, I simply applied the background noises of the 'tram' passing by, starting in the front channels and ending in the back,so it matches the camera. I had it almost perfect, too. Curse my metal body, I wasn't fast enough.

As for the line being cut, it referred back to a plot point that was removed from EP I and Lucas needed to cut time here and there.

I probably would PayPal one of our great editors here to put together a GREAT DVD quality extended cut of EPII as I've gotten far too lazy to do it.

Mitch,

I haven't removed anything from Anakin and Obi-Wan's conversations except references to Padme as a senator, or references to changelings. Are you sure you're talking about the version I did?

No, George Lucas removed this from the film:

"Try not to lose it again"
"Yes, Master"
"This weapon is your life"
"I've heard this lesson before"
"But you haven't learned anything"

"I try master"

It is in the trailer, but not in the film. When I was going to do my extended cut, I was going to add it back in, but like I said in another thread, I'm not doing that anymore.

I just finished watching "A Vergence in the Force" and I must say, Adigitalman, you did one heck of a job! I really enjoyed your edit of the film, and there was only one spot where I really noticed, but I couldn't remember what had been cut out, so it wasn't a big deal! I really got a lot out of your edit, and while part of that may be because it's the first time I've watched Episode 1 since the release of ROTS, but nonetheless, great work!

I'm only glad to make a prequel entertaining for somebody else to watch. Hopefully Ep II will be appreciated as much. I wonder what the obvious spot was. I hope it wasn't a bad edit but that's certainly possible. This was done with the digital equivalent of a straight razor.

Hey Rikter,

I was about to do a hack job on your MagnoliaFan 1.2 cover, but now I'll go ahead and wait. Any chance you'll release the covers serially, perhaps in the forum? I've burned my "Vergence" and it looks so cold and lonely in a blank case. How long can a poor, defenseless DVDr wait?

Also, big thanks to ADigitalMan for the new edit (I'm watching it tonight!) and big ol' thanks to Rikter for putting it up and for the slew of great covers.

Actually, I'm king of irked at you, Rikter. I mean, which cover am I supposed to use for my OT DVDs?!?! THERE ARE TOO DAMN MANY GOOD ONES!!! ;-)

It was when Sidious says that Darth Maul would go to Naboo, and Rune says "A Sith, here?" I always thought he said something after that, like "With us?" Maybe I'm wrong.

You're wrong.

That cut always bothered me in the original TPM. It seemed like Lucas wiped too quickly.

Author
Time
Alright. Thanks for that. I didn't watch the original to compare, so I thought it was an edit by ADigitalMan. Well, I guess I have a problem with Lucas' editing, then.

Hey DigitalMan,

I was just reading through your list of changes again and I have to ask, did you do anything to improve the Neimoidians? Or is all their dialogue still intact?

Author
Time
I didn't make any dialogue changes whatsoever. Not that it's not a good idea, just not my thing.

Okay. It's just that your credited on Rikter's copy of Magfan's Balance of the Force DVD as responsible for one version of the subtitles. (The version I liked.) So, I wondered if you had incorporated those subtitles into your edit.

Author
Time
Nah. For this edit, I really sought to just edit a better film out of the raw materials. Re-recording the dialogue is something I considered, but ultimately I didn't want to change the movie so much as ignore the parts that I felt needed to be ignored and restore the parts I think shouldn't have been deleted in the first place.

I haven't seen these yet, but your versions of the prequels sound great and seem to be much more agreeable with my view of how much can be altered/edited. I never really got the hubub about the "elected Queen." It doesn't bother me in the final films and I doubt the change will get a more substantial reaction from me.

I had an idea for an updated ROTJ that I'd do after ROTS releases and after I've completed re-editing it. Instead of Yub Nub OR the new music, use the unused Force March from the Ep III soundtrack. Since this is a long cue to play with, I considered doing a montage of the entire saga over this music, then cutting back to the celebrations.

Thoughts?

Sounds good to me. However, in my edit the Ewok picnic is no more. I can PM you my idea, if you like.

I don't know if the montage would be easy to pull off. It could come off as overly sentimental especially if you go with slow motion clips, etc. It seems like every tv series finale has a montage thats overly sappy.. Just my $0.02.

But then again Yub Nub is a bit cheesy but it has the nostalgia factor for me so thats what I dig.... Celebrate the Luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuv!

Woah, missed the montage part first time I read it. Yeah, new cue is good idea, montage is bad idea.

What Force March track? Is it on the CD?

Author
Time
the only force march track I can think of is the bit in the first track on the disc, "Star Wars and Revenge of the Sith," and I think it's used in ROTS under Anakin and Obi-Wan's initial approach to Grievous' ship (the sweeping shot that opens the film, after the pan down and the slow approach to the big republic ship whose name i do not know).

The closing credits had several minutes worth of embellishment on the Force March. Lucas cut this from the actual movie.

ADM, I'm about 40 minutes into your TPM edit and I'll be able to give you a full critique when I'm done. The stuff is just technical things, like audio drops and the subtitles being gianormous. Other than that, I like it.

Something that I thought about watching it, has anyone ever tried to take the 'ahs' out of the Gungan dialect? Since they are CGI and the lips match up just barely, it wouldn't be a problem with lipsynch. However, it would be alot of work. I just think their dialogue wouldn't be so bad if they used improper English, but didn't have the 'ahs' after everything.

Oh man, I just finished the Pod Race before I had to go to work. In the middle of it, the music could use alittle spice, but I will tell you what: This redone score is truly wonderful. I've only in passing enjoyed TPM, just something to sit back and watch. However, hearing that classical Star Wars score in the background of the Pod Race gave me goose bumps, similiar to during ROTS during the 'twin suns' scene.

Bravo. One thing I would say is to punch it up alittle bit. The soundtrack disappears over the sound effects sometimes. That's all.
