Another source could also be the Phantom Menace pc game that was kind of an action rpg'er. It had a guy who did a decent knock off of Liam's voice... at least thats what I remeber...

What about the scene where Luke is born, that would be different.

It might even be worth doing another version of the Heresy mix Episode III style...

If they were able to get people to do decent Liam voices for various video games and such, why couldnt they get someone that could do it for the scene in the movie. This information doesnt quite jive with the reasons being stated for the scene not being completed.

Yes, whoever provided Qui-Gon's voice in TPM video game and Clone Wars cartoon was very good.

That said, recasting is an awful thing. Especially going from Liam Neeson to some no name voice actor. Of course apparently he did have Ben Burtt experimenting altering his voice digitally and that didn't work out, and if they were going to do that, they might as well have given the guy from Clone Wars a call.

I wish he did. Look what he did to boba fett in the new ESB. It's terrible...

I don't know, maybe getting a good enough voice actor would have been swell, but then again, lucas probably wouldn't have done any directing so the scene would come off as lifeless as most everything has been in the PT.
He big in nothing important in good elephant.

why can't one of you
make a reproduction of the sandstorm scene from rotj.
you could a the original cut scene from behind the magic as a template.
and make cg sand blowing
and use doubles for luke ,leia, han and lando

and use use voice overs or to lift dialog from other parts of the film.
and use it for your fan edits.
what ya all think of the idea

ADM, I didn't go through your list, but did you fix the tranparency issue on the video screen during Vader's first Videochoke conference?

I didn't, but Darth_Editous may have done so for his edit. He did WAY more stuff than I did, and the "fixes" that I did were courtesy of him. I'm just an editor. FX are still magic to me.

Well, this is in ESB. I didn't know Darth Editious had done any work on that film.

I see about the SFX. It's just a simple matte problem, that LFL apparantly couldn't be bothered to touch.

I'd love to see this as well as a full color version of the Luke / Treadwell scene from the first one. Maybe someone could talk the guys who put together One More Season to do it. It was cheesy, but watching Luke work on the vaperator in full color blew me away.

Everything about this project sounds good to me. Especially the preservation of the OT. Can't wait to see the new PT either. So how can I get a copy?

Long live Sebastian Shaw.....in RotJ anyways.

Ah, thanks for clarifying. D_E has talked about fixing up ESB and ROTJ a la the way he did ANH. I for one didn't touch up any SFX since I just don't posess the know-how.

I have a request for the Episode 3 edit. Please could you put the subs from Backstroke of the West in? Words fail me as to how damn funny it is.

I second this motion, especially since I haven't able to track down a copy of that damn DVD to begin with.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

Thirded (for the "Backstroke" subtitles). If someone could even track down just the subtitle track and post it here... this would be such a great addition.

I don't know why the track hasn't surfaced anywhere on the Internet yet.

Bootleg video with timecodes is on Pirate Bay.
And here is a subrip someone did. I had to clean it up some, but it should be fine. It'll have to be tweaked for a re-edited version of the film anyway (which would I suppose include the official DVD release): http://adventureclub.postrock.net/botw.srt

LMFAO!!! That reminds me of the old bootleg Asian Fellowship Of The Ring screener DVD that I had. My buddies and I had a ball drinking and laughing at the horrible subs on that one! LOL!

ADM, I was going over the list of your edits in ROTJ, and they are very limited. The ones you did are substantial in their work, but I really think you could have trimmed down the Ewoks on screen time to make the film not only tighter, but less 'little kid friendly'. I know this edit was your vision for the films, I just was hoping you could comment on this.

Well, with the OT I did as little as possible in hopes of getting the Special Editions closer in spirit to their O-OT equivalent. I never found the Ewoks so objectionable as many do. Would a Wookiee battle have been better? Absolutely. Would I accept Lucas digitally replacing all the Ewoks with Wookiees? Probably, so long as I get the O-OT as well. But none of the Ewoks make me cringe and take me out of the story like the Leia/Luke smooch in ESB does. Thus, that is the only O-OT element I removed from the entire trilogy. Everything else that was done was to restore certain O-OT elements back into the SE.

As one who saw all three films on screen in their first runs (not to mention countless nights in college going to trilogy parties long before the SE), the O-OT still means more to me than the Special Editions. Therefore I'm eagerly awaiting the results of the X0 project to give me back the SW as I know it truly to be. But for now, if the SE's are what we have (in good DVD quality, anyway), then I was merely concerned with righting the wrongs I saw from 1997 and 2004. The Han/Greedo thing in ANH and the Hayden/Shaw thing in ROTJ were the most ham-handed character betrayals. Lapti Nek was a character in itself for me because of my old ties to that song (playing it at every Friday night game for five years will endear you to a song). Fett's voice was a character in itself. And one with a very worn out first edition paperback of Star Wars, Biggs and Jabba were characters too, so I was quite glad to see their scenes back in.

Back when ROTJ was out, we were all saying "I want my MTV." Now we're all saying "I want my O-OT."

Well, I've watched them all and I must say you've done
an amazing job, ADM. The picture and sound quality
are all top notch. Loved the choice of music for the pod race. Loved
Jabba's subtitles in IV. Loved the easter egg at the
end! haha! And yes, I'm happy Sebastian Shaw is
finally back where he belongs.

I think the film that was improved the most by your
edits was Episode II. Great, great decisions you
made. All of the deleted scenes work so much better
than the ones they used in the theatrical release. In
particular, I was shocked at how you changed the entire context
of the meadow scene just by cutting it before showing
that he was joking about "Well...If it works..." And
then she gives a concerned look, like "warning sign!"
Gives the entire scene a much more grim context and
adds an entirely new level of subtext into the
following scenes, and it makes the viewer more
sympathetic to Padme's decision to hold off on the
romance. Absolutely stunning how one simple edit can
add so much to the story. Seriously, my jaw dropped.

Later, I liked the Death Star references thrown in to
the subtitles. I always thought that it was important
to actually SAY "Death Star" in that scene, and you've
acheived that.

Everything else was pretty much in line with how I
would've done it. All the superfluous little moments
with Jar-Jar and so forth were rightly excised.

Those who haven't seen this need to. I'm looking forward to Episode III.

I've made it about halfway through Path to the Darkside, and content wise I like it. However, I'm a bit dismayed at the lack of wipes or transitions between the deleted materials, edited materials and the original stuff.

Just something that is classically Star Wars that I wish could have been recreated.

This was actually a problem I had with the edit of Episode II. His response is just so dark and surprising and her look indicates something ominous. Then it just cuts. There's no follow up. The moment is played up and Padme acknowledges there's something wrong with him, but there's nothing. It's kinda like a twist on a TV show. A character reveals a big twist, the music rises to a dramatic height and it cuts to a commercial break. But here you never get back to it. It's a dangling thread. It's just so shocking for the Padme character that I can't believe she can shrug it off like this cut implies. I kinda like the bit from the original movie because there's nowhere else to go but to either A) have a heated discussion of politics with Anakin or B) cut the tension with a joke. It's like you knew he wasn't really joking, but he goes along with the notion that it is a joke because he knows he went too far. Actually, I don't know if this is how it comes across in the original movie, but I like to think of it this way.

But it's still a great edit of the movie and there were a lot of great decisions made, but this and several other cuts just feel like they stop in the middle of a scene.
Author
Time
I disagree, ShiftyEyes. I think it helps show the audience why Padme doesn't want to rush into a relationship with this guy. She wants to like him, just like the audience wants to like him, but there are warning signs that keep casting doubts in her mind. To me, it's more effective than her simply being "focused on her career".

And I think the reason the edits feel to you like they cut in the middle of a scene, is because they do. This happens with the theatrical cut of every film. It's called editing. We just don't realize it because we haven't seen the entire scene, we see the parts the director wants us to see. You've watched the Star Wars saga a million times and you've gotten used to the flow of the George Lucas version. I don't think that fact can be used in criticism of ADigitalMan's editing skills or whether or not his edit of the film is good.

Watch this one enough times and your memory of the original version will be hazy at best, as has happened with the OT after almost ten years of watching the Special Edition.
