I've been thinking about the condition of this forum for quite some time now, and I've always said that when the time came, when I felt it had no turning back and became too lousy of a forum, then it'd be time for me to leave. Not due to someone asking me to, or caused by a single individual, but as a sum of factors. After almost 3 years and 6780 posts, I'd say the time is now.

A lot of factors are contributing for this. First, I've always had time and oportunity to openly read the content of this forum and post here on my job and at home. Working as a technical consultant, I've always faced moments in which I either had nothing to do, I was waiting for something to execute, waiting for someone's answer, or, on some moments, so tired of coding or testing I'd take a look at here for a while, always keeping the original trilogy website opened on a minimized browserm taking a peek every now and then. I'm going to face some new (absolutely terrifying) professional challenges which will forbid me to do this.

Second, everyone who really mattered is gone. All the good old posters we had some time ago are not here anymore. All of you with a joined date previous to january 2006 know what I mean and whom am I talking about. Sadly, this forum has been infested with idiotic, unporpoused trolls, and even one of the older members has clearly become one. I can attribute this to the huge forum purge that happened some time ago, the delays on Jay's software change (to which I don't blame him or accuse him of anything), the fading away of Star Wars topics due to the PT being over and the OOT being "released" in a way, and the degrading quality of forums all over the internet.

It's coming to the point in which I'm angered by how the forum is now, and yesterday I've reconsidered the necessity of me being here. So guess that's it. Ric, you make some pretty good points. Although I wasn't here long before things got out of hand, I do remember some of the great posters to which you were referring. Good luck with your new ventures. Sorry to see you go.

I agree with you ric. Things have gone downhill. It just isn't the same without some of the old people that have since gone away. I even find myself wondering if its worth stopping here anymore.

I hope you stop by again so you can at least read this thread. Back in October, I was going through a hard time and even if I didn't take your advice fully (I hope you know/remember what I mean) the fact that you tried to help meant a great deal. Things are much better now. They got better shortly into November. I am pretty sure I said this before, but just in case, thank you.

Goodbye Ric, although I don't understand why you desire to proclaim it as a permanent disassociation from the OT.com and even if the great posters are no longer posting, I'm sorry that I never knew them, but who is to say that we will never once again achieve that status. Although, I understand what you are doing, I still think it is pessimistic to give up totally on the forum just because you feel that there has been no good posters. One thing I have learned in life is that everything is like a pendulum, everything goes back and forth to one extreme or the other and hardly stays in the middle. Right now this forum may not be that great whereas it once was, I think it will come back around to your standards. All I urge is that you don't give up and just give it a few months and check back. That is all I'm sayin'.

One of the greatest problems this forum has, is that everyone just complains how much this place sucks now. It doesn't have to suck. I have been visiting these boards since 2004, I just never saw fit to register until later. I remember reading posts from the "all the good old posters of yore" things were thriving in those days yes, but it wasn't that everybody talked about things so much more exciting or intelligent than we do now. Just check out the Mangler Bros. thread or the Rankings thread and you can see this. This is the Off Topic area and it has always been about fluff and hogwash. I don't see what made them such extremely fantastic posters. It is just no longer filled with your old friends you used to enjoy posting with, and it no longer gets as much business as it use too. As Ferris said, this forum could still be great again. Things can only be as great as we let them. If everybody gives up on these forums then they haven't a chance. Forums generally suck, this is the only one I have ever seen worthy of registering for.

Good luck with your new professional situation Ric, I know change can be frightening, I hope this change works out for the best for you. It was enjoyable posting with a "liberal brazillian", always good to have a fresh perspective from other parts of the sphere, I would never have considered you annoying. Try not to be so down on yourself, you're a good guy. Take care. I'll sure miss the Kubrik references.

When I opened this thread, I was afraid all the replies would be senseless flaming about "oh noes, not another fare thee well thread! attention-seeking whore!" because this is definitely one that's done right. Not that I'm at all happy that ric is leaving, but at least he's doing it with some class. He's not just leaving without saying anything, and his thread wasn't a bunch of vitriol of mudslinging and getting in the last word. I'm sad he doesn't think there's anything left here worth sticking around for, and I wish he didn't think that, because I don't think that. I don't think it has ever gotten to that point. Except on most Saturdays, I always come here to find at least something interesting worth talking about. And that's really all I need from this site. So, bless you, ric. I know everybody here is going to miss you. And I hope you'll be back soon (but not too soon or you'll start getting all those accusations that this thread was just an attention-getter )

Heh, I'm thinking of leaving this forum simply because I spend enough time on the internet to badly affect the other pursuits of my life (and that's at only about an hour or two a day). I only came here because of the supposed OT release and it turns out that it was so worthless that I never even bothered purchasing it.

Hmm, I would hope that ric never considered me to be a troll though.
