Yeah, only the Terminator POV was redone with a freeze-frame effect so they must have had the introduction on a clean master. It's bizzare that Germany and France never did the same. Unless it was only in the 35mm print and never to be seen again!

Someone at ofdb.de stated that even the Theatrical presentation was not localised in Germany.
I think the first German VCL DVD came from a theatrical release, because it lacks the same Scene as the theatrical version, and it has not the inserted endcredit.

I guess this will be just an Italian preservation then. Sorry for you people of France and Germany, it would have been nice to take advantage of our work and produce a preservation for other Countries too
Well, if they don't mind an "apocryphal" version, we can still use the same template and localize it for them, couldn't we? All we'd need is the translated text.

I think I got a match for the end titles.
We thought this would be a good occasion to work on other foreign releases of the same film, since we are at work to remove all the text.
Am I right to guess that at least Germany and France had their own localized versions on Laserdisc?
As a matter of fact, no. The German version used the English master throughout (as was the case with T2 as well), whereas the intro text and the relevant HUD status messages were translated by voiceover.
The French MGM "Édition collector" 2 DVD set from 2001 also has the introduction text and time and place burnt-ins removed. And we also missed the voice-over on them. It was all replaced by subtitles. It's the same discs in Belgium, only the packaging was different.
And then, for the Ultimate Edition in 2005, they changed the master, so the texts were back in and the voices, too (except for the one on "Los Angeles, 1984. 1h52").
The FSK 18 VCL DVD does seem to be a straight transfer of an original German theatrical print or print master. The Orion logo has a German distributor notice superimposed (optically), everything is in English with German voiceover, there is no Harlan Ellison credit, and there are burns at the reel changes. It's also a straight transfer of the 4:3 print with electronic letterboxing of about 1.50:1. You can see the in-camera hard mattes change from scene to scene (when the matting goes further than the video letterboxing).

I have a similar DVD edition of From Dusk Till Dawn which is directly sourced from a 35mm release print. I also have a TVrip of Back to the Future like that.

There appears to be a textless remastered master somewhere accessible to professionnals, as TCM France aired last year the remastered Terminator with French texts. It's the first time I saw it like that:

Yet another typeface, though this one does not match neither the original font nor the italian variation. Looks like this is actually a modern, apocryphal version, like I was thinking of earlier.
That would be one of those versions made by TVs for public broadcasting. In Italy, Mediaset also makes use of clean masters (whenever these are available) to redo the text, for several reasons.

Mitch, did the T1 uncut / extended included all the deleted scenes, or just some of them? If you remember what was back in, it would be easy to redo this cut in FCPX or any other editing software.

if I remember right it was the actual DVD with Menus but whne you put the disc in it said, play with seemless branching or without. The rest of the disc was the special edition version.

He's making a font for the opening titles. He's the author of "Modern Vision", a font that accurately reproduces the english opening titles, but since the italian title cards seem to use a different version, he's making is a custom one for this project.
