Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Trailer

1. I was kind of disappointed until the last few seconds of the trailer because I really don't like the pupil-less eye look. Then I saw Leonardo had them, and I was a little relieved.

2. I was hoping they were going to get pizza.

As a fan of the original black and white comic, when they *were* pupil-less in the masks and in fact all the masks were red, when the action was geared at older audiences and there was no 'cowabunga' etc....

I thought this trailer and style looked KICK-ASS! I really got a charge out of it- reminded me of why I liked the series in the first place.

Oh, and the Foot were actual human ninjas as well... not robots. I wonder if they'll go that route.

As a side note, do any Turtles fans know that the Turtles share their origin with Matt Murdoch... aka Daredevil?

Is this going to be mixed with live action or is it a full-on CGI animation?

War does not make one great.

No, it's totally CGI, as far as I know.

And *watches trailer*... Wow, poor Mikey.

How do theys share their origin with Daredevil? And where does one procure trade paperbacks of Eastman and Lairds original works? I would very, very much like to read them.

I can't play the trailer! ARRG!

I'm not sure if the collections are still in print. Sorry.

Part of the fun of the whole TMNT series was that it was entirely based on being a parody of Daredevil, most specifically the great original Frank Miller run. Matt Murdoch (per the older origin- I don't know if its changed) was blinded as a child by an accident in which a tube of toxic thing-a-ma-bob stuff fell off a vehicle and struck him in the eyes. In TMNT the canister rolled into a storm drain and fell to the sewers and broke. The substance was then what mutated a rat and four discarded pet turtles into the characters we know. The first issue of TMNT shows the kid getting hit in the eyes.

Daredevil and Elektra were trained by Master Shaft. The rat in TMNT of course becomes Master Splinter... get it? The ninja bad-guys in Daredevil are 'The Hand'... in TMNT- 'The Foot'.

You can read the entire first issue of the original series here:

You'd think that they'd have reprinted them. I'd really love to read them.

Greencapt, that shit's cool. I never realized it before, but now that I know, it all makes perfect sense.

LOL- I was a Miller 'Daredevil' junkie back in the day (who wasn't?) and TMNT came shortly thereafter. What's REALLY funny- and I'll have to do a video capture someday of it- is a videotape I have of an interview Eastman and Laird at a comic convention from around that time. TMNT had become a popular small press comic but nobody outside of the direct sales comic world had heard of them. They're quoted as saying somrthing along the lines of "Well, we were approached by an animation company about doing a cartoon... but we doubt that THAT will ever go anywhere." HAHAHA... so sayeth the soon to be millionaires! Kevin Eastman who would soon buy and become publisher of 'Heavy Metal' magazine and marry model/actress/amazon Julie Strain.

Oh and notice that the Turtles once were drawn with tails... but they were deemed too phallic to include in a kiddie show so they were removed!

This will be the best movie of '07.
And i'm also really glad there going to keep the comic element in.

I was a bit skeptical when I heard the turtles were going to be CG instead of the awesome live-action suit jobs of the previous movies. But if it's a fully-CG movie, instead of four CG turtles in a live world, maybe I can put my fears to rest.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

THAT WAS BACK WHEN EASTMAN AND LAIRD WERE WORKING ON DAREDEVIL. THEY GOT TO TELL DAREDEVIL'S ORIGIN.

In fact, I was just explaining the Daredevil/Turtles connection to my co-worker at work tonight - the connection is the ooze - the same stuff that made Murdoch blind made the Turtles big mutant turtles.

hye guys, i donno about this, we'll have to see how it goes but it almost seems like this is going to be a super kidafied version of TMNT, like even the live action movies had appeal to people who werent 5 - 15. these movies are just going to seem like cartoons. i donno we'll see, but i would have liked it much more if they had done live action and CGIed the turtles only.

I TOTALLY AGREE. RICARDO AND I WERE JUST TALKING ABOUT THAT THE OTHER DAY. THE TRAILER LOOKED PRETTY COOL UNTIL THE I SAW THE "GOOFY" ENDING. IT'S GOING TO BE AIMED AT KIDS WITHOUT A DOUBT.

It's cool but I still prefer the live action turtles since they're just so much more impressive and believable than cgi cartoons. I'm glad there's a new movie coming out and it'll probably kick all kinds of ass, have a good story, all that stuff, but the stylized animation aspect doesn't really appeal to me that much personally. I think if they're going to do a continuation of the old movies, they should do it with jim henson's costumes mixed with cgi, although I'm not sure what this movie is, a continuation or new start.

About the pupils. The new cartoon uses pupil-less turtles like the comics and it's fine for the show. So it might have been fine for this too. i'm not sure but i think turtles have this second eye-lid that's transparent which they use underwater. Maybe these turtles have glow-in-the-dark versions of the same thing? The way the eyes look now is odd to me since they don't seem to blink.

I beg to differ. Part of the charm of the original comic was its goofiness. Mikey falling in a dumpster and yelping "I'm OK" seems completely in character. Personally, I'm hoping that a CG TMNT flick will allow the producers to amp up the violence a little more than the live action films.

Of course, what would have been truly fun is a TMNT film aping the style in which Rodriguez and Miller did Sin City.

hahahaha no i think you got me wrong, i loved the dumpsterness. my problem is with the animation, it feels like they are gonna use some sort of radical animation type, an example of a radical animation type is like decter's labritory.
