But McBurgers aren't really food; they're carbon atoms and proteins arranged together in the visual simile of food.

So they are technically edible, but not any good.

But the same can be said for burgers itself. Why would I eat an expensive 100 grams piece of reprocessed meat when I can eat a real piece of juicy red meat?

Because even reprocessed and expensive, it's cheaper than steak.

Argh, Ric. Now you have me wanting to go to Burger King and Outback.

I'm curious now, how much would cost a half a pound steak at a supermarket? Over here a Big Mac costs about the same as a good half pound steak, about 2 dollars.

Depends on the cut of the meat. Standard round steak might be about $2 or less for a half pound. Filet mignon, on the other hand... yummy!

Depends on the burger. Standard McDonalds burgers are only $.99, I think. Quarter pounders and the like are right around $2, if not a bit more.

Ah, I see, so the problem is not that meat is too expensive there - seems to be the same - but that burgers are really cheaper.

Well, that depends on where you get the burgers. I personally perfer to buy hamburger meat that the store and cook it on a charcoal grill(not a gas grill). Its much better than anything you can get at McDonalds or Burgerking.
