Ol’ George has the GOUT, I see.
this was on thestarwarstrilogy.com Team-Negative1-has-disbanded UPDATE:
under the disbanded article anyone else read this very interesting
Despite the message at OT, this has nothing to do with that. Or any C&D order.
We have no internal problems. Basically, we set out to prove that we could
finish the preservation project and we have. Everything else is extra.
There has been no illegal or acquired scans or prints that have been unauthorized.
Everything we have, we have paid for, or gotten the owners permission. We have verbal
and email confirmations for anything in question. We will not make any further comments
on those issues.
We wish OT well, but with the environment there, we feel it is best to focus any efforts
individually for the future.
Rogue1
Our decision has nothing to do with the “grey areas” in which fan preservations operate or the avoidance of publicity that comes from allowing fan preservation discussion here. Harmy’s Despecialized Edition has already heaped a ton of visibility on ot.com and we’ve seen very positive results for our cause and the community brought about by that visibility; the suggestion that we’d kick a community member to the curb just to spare us some exposure is offensive.
However, I understand the reaction due to the vagueness of the original post. I apologize for not being more specific. There are standards and ethics within the fan preservation community and that’s what this is about. Team Negative1 did something they shouldn’t have. Posting more details could make life harder for other members of the community, so we can’t get into a lot of detail right now, but given Team Negative1’s prominence in the community, we had to say something.
We’ve always been open with the community about every challenge we’ve faced, so we’ll share more details if we are able.

We shouldn’t have riffed on team accounts so much. It’s our fault.

Negative-1 said it was! Wait a minute… oh no, it’s something to do…
Oh, you’re joking. I think you should stop and edit your post.
It was just a suggestion.

Oh, you were serious. I think Jay’s two posts in this thread now summarize everything that is important. It’s not a legal issue, despite the fact that we all have legal concerns in this community.
I understand now. …but it’s still our fault.
Ol’ George has the GOUT, I see.
Thread locked unless/until we can present more facts. Speculation helps no one.

The topic has been reopened. Please see the first post for updates.

it’s still our fault.
Care to withdraw that statement now?
This (a crackdown due to legal concerns) is not what’s happening and it is an internal issue in question among preservationists. Yes, we should always keep legal issues in mind. But the sky is not falling right now.
I guess this is what I’m doing this afternoon.
Fair enough. Keep in mind with what was revealed at the time my initial post was a bit askewed. Nonetheless, while at times not 100% legal, I still give thumbs up to fan preservation and respect its purpose. Also keep in mind thats just me speaking generally and not necessarily in regards to the topic, at least not fully.
Let’s keep the sniping and joking to a minimum in this one, please. I don’t want a lot of background noise, especially since people have demanded clarity on this issue.
Thank you.

No, I wasn’t judging you for the conclusion you were coming to. But earlier in the thread there was a sort of runaway effect with a lot of doomsdaying, so I was just trying to course correct as best I could without spilling the beans.

Understood. 😉
So let me get this straight:
The group that has been intentionally vague, dodged basic questions and obscured their individual identities did something shady?
Like I respect and appreciate all the work TN1 has done–their Silver Screen Edition of Star Wars is my preferred version of the film–but I’ve been suspicious of these people since the original Negative1 basically said he had nothing to lose and would preserve these films by any means necessary.
I imagine there are perfectly decent, ethical people within the team as well, but since they maintain this weird, nebulous anonymity I can’t exactly mete out blame where it’s due.
Whatever. I wage $50 that Disney announces Blu Rays of the original unaltered trilogy before 2016 is over.

There are.
I had forgotten Williarob’s name. Since he joined TN1 he’s been the Platonic ideal of transparent and direct I wish the team had been prior.
Wow, just found out about this. Pretty sad to see this has happened.
Venerable member of the “Red Eye” Knights
It’s a disappointing situation for sure, but given the way TN1 operates, it is by no means surprising.
The Person in Question
WHAT?!?! What do you mean unethical means?! We’re ALL unethical here! There’s gotta be some kind of mistake!
Ethics are codes of behaviour agreed to within a closed group or society. In this regard most of us use this site ethically even if we are being to some degree legally questionable.
Morals are subjective so make your own mind up on that one.
Thanks for the update Jay BTW.
As I thought you had reasons for not disclosing more at the time. Hopefully people feel a little less worried now.
“Say it ain’t so Joe! Say it ain’t so.”
This website just went from my happy nerd home to this. This was such a wonderful find a few years ago. It reminded me of the old days of the early internet where I discovered that there were people out in the world who were nerdier than me and I could talk to them!
I am still confused by all of this. Everything done here is so fluid on it’s legality and ethics. Mr. -1 uses a scan from a print owner who has it in his possession? Mike admits to using -1’s print too? Aren’t we all here to see Star Wars restored?
“We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately.”
I can’t help but being quoty in my melancholy. 😃
What I’ve seen on this forum in the last few years has been amazing. I am very much looking forward to Adywan’s film and Mike’s Verta’s restoration. There is so much hard work, creativity and good intentions on this forum it’s amazing. You don’t see this everywhere else. This is why I love Sci-Fi and Fantasy and OT.com especially. The people are usually the nicest most talented people non-judgmental I have ever met. I wish people in politics had this much heart.
I just had to get my two cents onto the internet.
I missed the post that said Mike paid for the scans.
