Team Negative1 - The Empire Strikes Back 1980 - 35mm Theatrical Version (Released) — Page 7

I am amazed at the amount of skill you guys have, to be able to scan and then restore these films. It is truly awesome that we can see 35mm prints. Well done. I just wish it were easier to get access to these things when they are released. I've never used any newsgroups or anything.

I wish I had more skill, so I could help you guys out lol.

I would love to see a clip that had the same colour timing & same level of cleanup as the stills you've been posting lately. I think they're almost perfect, just a bit too dark and maybe a wee touch warm.

Are those stills from a print currently in your possession? If so, which one? Is it a complete/near complete print? If so, can the whole thing be made to match these great stills?

...or maybe there's something to this sudden hoax paranoia.

That can be quite nicely disproved with a single 100% restored clip. How long would it take for 15 to 30 seconds of footage to be FINALIZED as an example of what to expect?

Adywan, as soon as we can get those clips/pictures to you we will. There are still a few more steps to go with them.

The screenshots wouldn't need to be from your finished version to show if the problems are with the official transfer or with the film itself. Screenshots from your raw untouched scan would easily show if the same problem exists on the theatrical prints. Plus posting these screenshots from your raw scan would also prove to those that are saying that you don''t even have the prints that you actually do

Thanks

Also note subsequents posts with frames, and video links.

All frames and videos, unless noted in a comparison clip like the Fuji, and Kodak 2, are from the original worst pink faded print we have, the Kodak 1.

The good looking color stills could have been single-frame color correction tests, not excerpts from color-corrected footage. They may have been corrected in Photoshop just to see how much color info could be extracted from the image in the actual transfer. That's a much more plausible scenario than "hoax".

If it were a hoax, explain the Cloud City scene that was just posted. I've been following this from the start, I was on the old private blog, I saw the behind-the-scenes footage (including monitor playback of footage from the final reels, with the same color fidelity as those stills), and this is definitely legit.

This is no hoax. I believe the lack of a finished final product can be easily explained by: 1) it's friggen hard work, and 2) I'm inclined to believe there's a little perfectionism involved here, and "release early, release often" is kindof an anathema to perfectionists. Why release an unfinished product when you only need to wait maybe three more years and get a perfect one?

You rush a miracle man, you get rotten miracles.

No black dog's telling him to shoot anyone, he's not trying to impress Jodie Foster. So he pretends he's a bunch of different people and has a couple accounts. Yeah it violates forum rules, but it's pretty harmless in the long run (esp. given how obvious he is about it--there doesn't appear to be any risk of anyone getting fooled) and we get a 35mm preservation out of it.  Beyond that, what's there to be interested about?

If you're looking for more HD clips, most of them are posted in 720p for you to view. None of them match any known release that has ever been posted publicly.

The only way to see them, is to go through the thread, and view the links. We have posted many samples from the first print. The newer prints are a big improvement in color, and have different amounts of damage on them, as you can see in the 3x, and 4x comparisons.

It will be awhile, before we return to working on this movie, because of all the planning, and decisions that need to be made for integrating them as we have said several times. We are just documenting the work done, and for the general interest in this film.

Somethings are better left unsaid for anyone involved.  I would guess that if you all gotta have some type of physical proof then your queries might be better served via pm and kept there.

Just a suggestion.

Everything screwy on this site interests me.  I have a whole thread devoted to these kind of things.

I saw that and was glad they posted it. Precisely what I wanted to see to silence the nay sayers (and I admit, silence the small part of me that was dreading this could have been a hoax): a 5 second clip that in the special editions was altered.

Now, let us sit back and appreciate the amazing work -1 are doing.

For the record, I never flat-out claimed this was a hoax.  And neither has Frink.  The "proof" he was looking for is regarding whether or not -1 is still involved.  I just asked if anyone was going to bother exploring moth3r's claim that they could have been 2004 DVD color corrections; suffice to say, his later retraction satisfied me.

A little less snark all around would be nice.  I'm gonna keep my trap shut from here on out and keep the lolz to off-topic mocking.

Doesn't look quite as good in the video. Still pretty good, but with weaker contrast and more red.

Either the stills were very carefully selected, or video compression is a factor...

The thread did not have to be hijacked for this to happen.  pm would have been just fine.  The "snark" here isn't limited to just one person.  I asked nicely for it to stop and it just kept moving.  I am just as thankful as the next person that this is being done but I don't need to know every private secret identity of the people involved to be thankful.  TeamBlu has silent members and no one hassles them on who is actually posting.  The mods can check IP addresses to see what's happening but to reveal it would not be ethical .... as Moth3r is well aware of this by his statement on the matter.

Fun is fine .... lolz are great when something is funny because it makes your day funny.  I have NO personal issue with anyone here.  It was just a bit of overkill for something so trivial.  I was tired of reading it and I spoke up, I am not ashamed to have done so.

Even if this never(!) comes out I think enough varied clips from unique 35mm star wars prints were generously shared on the blog (including a pretty long piece from reel 2) to make continued jokes about team neagtive1's eccentricities/methods pretty redundant and repetitive at this stage (at least for me on the sidelines who just wants to appraise the parts of the project(s) previewed objectively, without an ongoing critique or feud at every turn).

Then again on the other hand if trying to catch out team negative 1 makes them more determined to deliver the project as their final trump card, then maybe TV's Frink is a genius.

We don't want to dwell to much on the past, or other Off Topic subjects that are not related to this project. However, we just want to clarify a few things. There are new team members, they don't worry about who was in the group or not, they have their own tasks to worry about. Not all the team members know each other, or are in contact with each other. This is for security reasons.

The prints were sold, and some of the new members do own them for the rescans.

We're not worried about who believes what, or if this a hoax or not. The many pictures and videos speak for themselves. Much like the moon landing, no amount of proof, will convince people that it is real. And those people will not be interested in this project, and will not see the final results regardless.

The new owner of the first Empire print has these:

=====================================

Here is the container, and a few reels of The Empire Strikes Back. Reel 3 is a Fujicolor Replacement. Reel 6 is the regular pink faded Kodak 1 print.

Please excuse the blurry shots, as these were taken quickly.

The new replacement Reel 3 is also a Fujicolor Print:

--------------------------------------------------

We also realize there are other fake and hoax projects out there (3d). And, for the 8mm one, you have to go to AMPS to see what is holding up the progress on that, where there are people that would prefer that to the 35mm one. So it takes all types, and a certain amount of skepticism is healthy.

Regardless, we have more than enough data, and as mentioned the only way to progress in this is at a slow and careful pace. Which we will address at some point in time after Star Wars is completed.

Thanks for setting-the-record-straight, Team-1. For the record: I never thought this was a hoax or anything of the sort. Keep up the good work!

The Super8 project (as well as others) is on AMPS because we want to release hyperlinks to downloads and such without putting OT.com at risk. AMPS is more of an unofficial-sister-forum than competition.

The #1 thing holding-up the Super8 project right now is that its members are geographically-distant. It's difficult (and sometimes expensive) to ship things overseas.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!
