We are currently working with providing Harmy with ESB clips.

Adywan, as soon as we can get those clips/pictures to you we will. There are still a few more steps to go with them.

As with any major project here on OT, we can see what Harmy, Adywan, and Dark Jedi have to go through, with being asked when a project will be done.

Our answer is simply this, as Adywan put it, 'It's done when its done'.

For those that wish to follow us as we chronicle this project, we will continue to post HD clips, and a lot more High Resolution pictures as Works in Progress.

Team Negative1

Thank you.

What if Tv's Frink IS -1? Talk about hoaxes...

Indeed...the way I keep ignoring my own perfectly valid and relevant question is the ideal smokescreen!

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

WOW, so the opening daylight scenes at Bespin are indeed very white with a slight hint of sky blue, probably amongst the few things the blu-ray got right.

Here are some of the many issues with the first Kodak Print:

============================================

Crawl needed to be dewarped, bottom is fixed version:

Another scene that needs major dewarping, bottom is fixed version:

Lastly, a 3x, and 4x comparison between all the prints of ESB.

Well, you do keep ignoring the request to stop hijacking the thread ..... so it's not a total bust right?

As I said, it's valid and relevant.

Did everyone figure out which source is which for 3x, and 4x comparisons? Harmy was very quick last time.

Which do you think looks the best?

Upper right corner - for me personally looks the best as far as details go, its one major flaw being the scene in which Piett approaches Vader while he is in his hyperbaric chamber which is way too sepia-toned.

Upper left corner - too washed out, too wobbly and too much loss of detail.

Lower left corner - too dark, it is however the one with most accurate colour palette in the Vader hypebaric chamber scene as far as I'm concerned.

Lower right corner - too blue.

Winner: Upper right corner, the most detailed of the four, only needs to have the sepia/orange corrected.

That's a good assessment. But we will be using mostly the one in the lower left corner. There will be a blend of all the sources as different frames  have different amounts of damage.

We will be posting a scene of Luke and Yoda in the hut, which highlights the difficulty of integrating multiple sources for one scene.

We would like everyone to look closely at it, once posted.

I'll look closely at the scene, if you promise there aren't any subliminal messages embedded.

Ok, now that you've taken a look at. What is the suggested course of integrating the sources. You need to take into account that each scan is at least 2k in size. You will need to evaluate each frame of each print. Then you will need to decide what frame should be inserted and the relative amount of damage on each frame.

Once you do that, you need to be aware of cropping, and distortion issues. As there may be some warping on the frame. You will need to compensate for those, and finally apply color correction to it.

There, you just finished 1 frame of the restoration, not including the audio.

Repeat approximately 170,000 more times, and there you go, the completed restoration of ESB, not including the downsampling, conversion, and synchronizing of it.

Sounds like a monumental task, to put it mildly. Good luck.

Ahhhh the post stated everyone so If you're looking for a personal invitation just to sling more senseless nonsense I doubt it's coming any time soon.

I just want to be sure.  You can't be too careful these days.

That Full HD Cloud City clip looks beautiful. I hope we see a lot more 1080 clips!

Just a handful of years ago all we had were LaserDiscs and poorly made DVDs.

People have prints now, and they're scanning them and fixing them up something good.

We shouldn't ever be complaining, but working to help expedite this the best we can.  There are some great minds here, and combined we can really make this dream come true.

Keep up the terrific work.  It's certainly going to be a day long remembered when we get final versions.

Because Star Wars...

“Alright twinkle-toes, what’s your exit strategy?”

I agree, this is a huge improvement over previous sources. No comparison with 35mm film prints. And I appreciate the major time, effort and expense being gone to to get these prints scanned and preserved/restored. A big thanks to everyone involved! :)

The Star Wars trilogy. There can be only one.
