I guess we should have put some kind of smiley face or sarcasm tag on it. Of course George Lucas approves. He's the one that released it in that manner.

Hmmm, seems that converting .mkv to AVCHD is easy enough even for a doofus like me so I just might be watching this tonight after all!

Is there any chance it could be uploaded to a different tracker? Yesterday it didn't move a bit and now I get a weird error message - "Trying to seed yourself?" - WTF?
Hope you get it working. There are 70+ seeders so you should be able to get it at whatever your max speed is (7 MB/s was fine). I used qbtorrent as well. Perhaps firewall/port problems are to blame.

I take that back, the process fails for some reason just when it is about to be completed (using GOTsent). Damn.

Yes, I did. I just finished watching it and I'm totally blown away by it, even though it's red faded and has many other problems, even the worst looking bits look better than any official release, including the BDs

No.
I own an oppo bdp-83 which I believe is compatible with several color spaces. Can I therefore still burn this with the usual bluray folders, or will this not work?
I tried to make an AVCHD out of the 720p version but the end result is slightly too large to burn on to a DL DVD. I give up.
^ Why not just watch it on your PC? MPC-HC or VLC will play it just fine

The .mkv plays on my crappy laptop but it's too choppy to enjoy.
Because of this. Even if it did play smoothly I hate watching films on a laptop.
Edit: streaming via PS3 Media Server seems to work OK so far, hooray!
Edit 2: Aaaand now it starts to get all choppy. NOW I give up.
I got the 720p from Usenet and it doesn't work for me. All I can play is the 3 videos inside the Extras folder.
Now I'm getting the 1080p, hoping it will work... except it has more incomplete parts, so I wonder if I'll be able to extract it from the *.rar files. I'll see.
We recommend using MPC-HC , VLC or Potplayer on your PC to watch this. It has been tested with each one, for 720p, and 1080p on a Windows PC using Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 (10 if you are adventurous).

I think the issue is that, while decent BD players support a range of colorspace outputs, the BD video spec is only ever 4:2:0. Still it may be worth passing the file through tsMuxer to see if you can get away with structuring it that way, and see what your player makes of it.
And as for watching something like this on a PC (as distinct from HTPC), I can't imagine that would be a very pleasurable experience - don't folks like to get immersed in movies any more?
I do use Media Player Classic Home Cinema, and it's fucked up anyway. Maybe it's the copy on Usenet, I don't know. As I said, I can play the extras and anything on my hard drive, so...

Yes.

If the PC is set up properly and connected to a big TV screen or projector, the experience is just as immersive and pleasurable – at least to me.

Yes. Very happy with my decision to make sure my current PC had an HDMI out port. Useful for these kinds of things, out-of-region DVDs, etc.

Did you use the par2 files for recovery? Someone on Myspleen said the Usenet upload is working.

Sure I did. And it did extract then. Yet it didn't play. If I can't make it work with the 1080p either, I'll end up getting it on My Spleen.
In all honesty I had a great deal of trouble running the 1080p release myself. Didn't work on my mpc-hc player, had to use vlc and even then it was incredibly slow jumping from place to place in the film. First time i've experienced such issues with an encode.
As for the film itself, the extra details in the shadows and highlights is very nice, really puts the blu-ray to shame in that regard, but the red fade is very noticable, a lot of work is going to have to be done to try to retrieve the original colours and bring them into balance. I don't envy team_negative1 all that work, that's for sure.
I took a look at it earlier today, and I experienced some odd video distortion at the end. Anyone else have this issue?

I think they've said that they have 1+ Fuji prints that will probably be the source of the final restored version. I imagine this print we've all viewed now could still be useful for damaged portions, etc.
OK, so the 1080p from Usenet doesn't work for me either, neither using MPC nor using VLC. Neither does the intro. Yet the extras do work. I don't get it. Have you done anything different with the encoding? All I have is sound.
edit: Okay, so it does play on another version of MPC. But it still doesn't on my Dune HD Max, except the audio. So there's definitely something with the video encoding that ruins compatibility with many players.
^ Plays fine for me. I use the version of MPC-HC that comes with the "Combined Community Codec Pack"
I'm getting choppy playback of the 1080p version on VLC, too.
Preliminary testing via AirPlay only so far so so it's choppy.
My God, FILM!!!!
I cant wait to see Star Wars and Jedi.
You have my support guys!
“Alright twinkle-toes, what’s your exit strategy?”
I tried it out on a fresh install of MPC-HC, and while it's not as bad as on VLC, it still stutters.
Otherwise, great release, guys!
