Happy new year, guys!

How come you changed from PCM to AC3? PCM is Blu-ray compatible.

I'm not part of the team, but the source for their sound is 35mm optical - although it's decent enough, it's not the best in terms of aural fidelity. I doubt there is much information in their source that warrants PCM audio. If we were talking about a digital laserdisc soundtrack transfer, that's something else!

I wanted to say that Ive decided to do a colour correction of my own and will be posting the results here soon just to help out with the finished product. Is that ok by the Team?

That's exactly what someone on the team would say. :p

We have no problem with people making their own unofficial derivative versions. Please include our information with it if you do make one.

We have a few color corrected versions made already, and with the latest Fuji print, which is only lightly faded, so that is being used for the final version. This was just done as a quick one off, and will not be used for future releases.

There is a 16mm LPP which will be a reference, and possible talk of the 35mm LPP, but we have to wait and see what happens with that.

Hi,

I just finished watching the grindhouse release and it was wonderful! It really took me back, I remember as a child watching a film, during the first week it was pristine, then on my second viewing a week later I noticed a few specs of dust, then on my third viewing I noticed that more had joined. This doesn't bother me, I see it more as a physical history of the life of the print.

I do have one question though. Will the finished release be physically cleaned? I assume you will be using software to paint away the dirt, but will there be any attempt to physically get some of the dirt off the print beforehand?

An excellent, thank you for getting back to me on this question. Thanks even more for taking care of and polishing the prints so we can get as much information out of them as possible.

Will the final version be scanned entirely from low fade fuji reels?

And if so, will the reels used for the final version be different from the ones used for the grindhouse version?

Thanks for doing this in the first place!

Different people have different ideas of the best way to clean stuff up, and some people like their sources warty. Can't say I blame them.

There is something to be said about watching a warty scan in its raw state, though - if it's done well and looks like the real thing, it could be utter crap (as in worse than those 8mm scans) and you'd still get this vibe from it, because you can feel the filmicness of it.  And these are really good despite the dirt, noise and excess grain.

With some primp and polish, it would be easy to beat the pants off the GOUT in every regard.

I'm sure it'd be easy to demux the audio from the existing release, and mux it into the forthcoming blu-ray compliant version, if you wanted to. Might do that myself actually.

Wow, no wonder I haven't been able to log into the forums for the past week.

Shame there's not much color left, but I'm sure this will be a great supplement to the Puggo (until something better comes along, at least).

Thanks so much for sharing Team-1 and I absolutely love the extras a real treat for someone who projects all his films.

All the very best for the new year, that goes for everyone else on here too.

They aren't called cigarette burns by anyone but Tyler Durden. They are called changeover cues or cue marks.  It's nice to see them again.

I saw that and giggled as well.

:)

Hey, if it was good enough for legendary projectionist Tyler Durdon, it's good enough for me:)

However that term was used well before Fight Club.

i just sampled this release and boy... it looks overall pretty freaking good. will watch it over weekend in full length.

but a tiny thing i may say i didn't like at first glance. the picture is a bit too dark. some of the details are swallowed up in the dark areas. maybe it was the stock, maybe that's how the film should look or maybe the settings for color correction where a bit off. anyone can comment on this matter.

but other then that, it looks much better then anything we could've hoped for. great job tn1 :)

btw, adding those trailers was a nice touch. i hope you will add more star wars trailers, in scope if possible, to the upcoming movies :)

I noticed this too, regarding the darkness of the picture. But from what I understand, they're aleady busy scanning a better print...

If you're watching on the computer and use ffdshow with a compatible media player, you can do a little bit of color correction yourself...

I've watched the first few minutes and I am amazed. Despites being unrestored, this looks even better than the Special Edition DVD. I can't thank you enough for this wonderful christmas present.

And including those trailers is a wonderful bonus. :)

You know what would be nice? Seeing the trailers and especially the season's greetings/feature presentation things restored...

The trailers for Star Wars will be restored at some point, but that will be after we are done with the movies.
