Is there a prerequisit of watching Star Wars at least once a day to be on these forums or something? Because if so, I have been in the wrong place for all these years.

If that's the case, I'm way down on my quota as well.  I last watched Star Wars a few days after the 06 DVD was released.  I'm entirely NPR Radio version now.  Which, oddly enough, I started listening to today. I'm about an hour into it.  I generally listen to it three times a year. Don't know when I'll ever watch the film version again. It's just not as deep as the NPR version. I don't want to go back to Star Wars Lite.

The quality of the GOUT has kept me from watching any parts of the OT in quite some time.

Back on topic;

I watched Conan's last Tonight Show.  The few moments at the end, where he asked his fans, particularly the younger ones. not to be cynical - class all the way.  It's a message they needed to hear, and they needed to hear it from him.  Well done, Conan.

I'll watch when Leno gets the show back, but I bet The Tonight Show doesn't get its respect, following, & ratings back until someone else finally takes over after Leno retires.  I think people are worn out from all this ugliness and Leno represents part of that ugliness.  Good or bad, win or lose, innocent or not - Leno is part of the negative & hateful drama of the past month.  Even as a fan, I feel a sense of emotional fatigue from all of this and have no desire to see any of them for a while.

If you don't want to answer that's cool, C3PX, but where do you live? If I were to believe the stereotypes, it seems like you live in the heart of the Bible Belt, surrounded by trailer parks, Wal-Marts, and Southern Baptist mega-churches based on what you just said.

Hey, how did you know where I live?!?!   :P

The story I always heard was that Jay told NBC in 2004 that he was thinking about retiring in 2009. Conan's contract was up for renegotiation at that time, so he asked that he be promised Jay's spot when he left. Jay changed his mind, but they already had a contract with Conan for him to helm the Tonight Show in '09, so they appeased Jay by giving him a 10pm show.

This seems more plausible to me than the idea of Conan demanding Jay's #1 show in 5 years regardless of whether or not Jay wanted to leave...?

Conan never had a shot to stand on his own with a decent lead-in (like Law & Order). Jay had the luxury of finding an audience and finally beating Letterman after being on the air for 2 years.

if that's true(and I find it more believable than the previous story told earlier in this this thread),  I'm on Conan's side all the way.

btw,  I loved the speech he gave about not being cynical.

Warb, sorry if I seemed snappy back in post 70. I honestly thought you were using the Fox News comment as a bit of a slam, I hate being pigeon holed like that. Whether you did or didn't mean it that way, I should not have reacted so harshly.

And now back on topic:

After reading Mielr's post, the whole thing makes a lot more sense. The whole idea that Conan who, as popular as he was on Late Night, was fairly expendable, was able to demand Jay's spot never really added up.

its ok,  C3PX.   I'm sorry I kinda pigeon holed you.  I wasn't trying to slam you though, I was just curious if you watched Fox news and if not, why not.  No offense was intended.

When did they start taping "While the Death Ball Turns" in here?

So, thoughts on Leno's return? I personally haven't watched, I've been going to bed really early recently to make up for a few recent late nights.
