It looks like the kid is sleeping in a Tauntaun. But don't worry. The entire thing is one big sleeping bag.
I posted this in the Adywan ESB thread, I believe, around April 1st, when it was a joke product. But soon, it’ll be a reality! 😄
Info here: http://www.thinkgeek.com/geektoys/plush/bb2e/
According to their newsletter, “TaunTaun Sleeping Bag - Lucas signs off, In production, Get notified - Exclusive pics emailed this week of final prototype if you sign up!” And on the product page, “We should have the real version of these cool sleeping bags arriving in early November.”
Quick, Man! Are they in adult sizes or only kids??!?!????

Wait, $100??!?!? The woman will never go for this. :(

$100 is the price they put up for the April 1st listing. It might not be that much once it's an actual product.
I thought it was $39.99 on April 1.

This Wired article seems to back up my memory. I'm afraid the $100 price tag is the $40 Think Geek price + LucasFilm royalty.

No, no, it was $100 on the page back then, but that article was saying that if they ever made it for real, they figured it would be around $40. ;) It still says $100 now because it's the same page as before with just a few changes to reflect the fact that it's actually coming soon.
At any rate, I'm signed up to get their newsletters, so I'll post updates when they're available.
Here's Geekologie from April 1, also mentioning the $40 price tag. I don't mean to argue, it's just I don't want you getting my hopes up.

I guess you're right and I'm forgetting. (hey, it half a year ago) Not sure why'd they'd jack up the price by $60 when it's still, for the moment, [mostly] a joke page. Hopefully they wouldn't actually sell it for that much, especially when people saw the original price, which was probably pretty accurate for this type of product.
Anyway, I take it you want one too? :) I bet they'd get a bunch of orders from OT.com members, even from those without kids. Haha.
We don't go camping much, but if we had a couple of these, maybe we would...

Camping?! That'd just get it dirty. You need to hang it on the wall. Haha. ;)

Although I'm wondering now if Robot Chicken actually thought of it first.

Did they do a bit about that on Robot Chicken Star Wars 2 or something?
Where did they get the Tauntaun fur from?
War does not make one great.

Yeah, because when you're thinking about Tauntaun sleeping bag you always think about Episode V Revisited.
And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.
There's a "My Little Tauntaun" segment on the DVD for Robot Chicken Star Wars: Episode 2. It's quite well done. My little girls love it. Part of it features a little girl going to sleep in a tauntaun carcass.

I remember that one. Definitely a literal LOL moment. :)
Got some news in the form of an e-mail from thinkgeek:
A message from Mr. F.M. Tauntaun, c/o ThinkGeek
My friends in the Rebel Alliance,
Remember me? The ThinkGeek April Fools Day joke, a little movie
called Star Wars?
Yes, it's me, the Tauntaun Sleeping Bag, and I've arrived safely
at ThinkGeek HQ after a long and harrowing journey from Hoth to
Jokeland to Licensingville to Realitytown.
Turns out the monkeys here are even more excited about me than I
was about finally being unpacked--'cause if you think I smell bad
on the outside, just imagine after a long trip in a box. The
attached photos might explain it better.
Anyways, everybody here wants to hang out and catch up, so I'm
sorry about having to make this quick. Just wanted to let you
guys know that I've survived the trip and I'll keep you posted
on the next phase of my saga!
XOXO,
First Manufactured Tauntaun Sleeping Bag
P.S. Apparently you guys can compete for me by entering
ThinkGeek's Halloween Pumpkin Template Contest, and you've got
until 10/29/09 to submit an entry. (No Tauntaun template
yet? Hmm.)
Hopefully they don't really stink. I'm all for realism and whatnot, but c'mon.

Man, that thing is really nifty. But I could never justify $100 for a sleeping bag, and one that is too small for me to use no less. Also, if I am not mistaken, it seems they are already sold out. I got my email from thinkgeek informing me they were not available, only to follow the link to see it cost $99.99 and was sold out. Must not have made very many, I think I remember the email saying the initial run would be limited. Hopefully more are on the way and will become cheaper eventually, but I wont hold my breath.

They have not been sold yet. That last update was showing the first one they got, possibly on the same day they made the update. The price and availability that shows on the product page is mearly a placeholder for now.
Just got news that we can pre-order them. Limit 2 per customer.

It's $99.00, but on the plus side, it's huge!
