Well, then why the bloody hell do you keep spewing out this crap that they routinely use this technology for freezing people?!

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

One thing that gets me is that they have managed to make chewies face look like he does in the OT yet lucasfilm made him look completely different for ROTS.I never understood how they could get the face so wrong in ROTS.

That's why I like the CW team. They actually care and are fans of the license. It's George that doesn't get it and has them do all the cheese. I remember Dave Filoni the supervising director relating a story about the team closely studying the dejarik holograms and how they moved so they could recreate it for a quick shot in an episode and George didn't get why they were trying so hard to replicate that when they could make them look and move better now.

The only real problem with The Clone Wars, to me, is that they try to do a lot of this fanservice. The problem with that being we are generally a group of fans that don't really want it.

They should really be trying out new and exciting and different things, rather than shoehorning a bunch of old characters and concepts in, whether it works or not, or whether it can be retconned to work or not.

Oh well. At least their Chewie looks right.

That's a delicate balance to strike.  Too much new stuff and people complain that it doesn't feel like the original.  Too many references to the original and people complain that it's just rehashed old shit.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

I'd rather the clone wars series (or any spinoff series for that matter) try and elaborate on otherwise minor characters.

That's how we got an entire episode around Baron Papanoida and his family, whom Lucas played in a cameo in ROTS. His daughter also appeared as a relative of the Baron.

I wonder who pitched that episode idea? ;)

I never said that. I said that Vader knew it could be done beforehand. And this episode shows why.

By the way, it was a good episode.

And the problem with Fanservice is that you get Boba Fett in Star Wars, or Jabba in Star Wars.

You get Jar Jar and Hayden in jedi for those new school fans for example.

The idea that Boba is even in the second star tours is just that.

That and the 90's Boba Fettish thanks to dark empire bringing him back, but it was a marvel comics idea anyways.

The EU had ridiculous things like overuse of pseudo death stars and superweapons of the week, and cloned emperors and spirit transference.

The carbon freezing plot is bloody ridiculous though and completely ruins the danger of Han getting frozen in ESB. Lando says that if they put Luke in there it might kill him, so Vader tests it out on Han. Why would he have bothered if he knew it was a safe procedure? And they have Ugnaughts controlling the carbon chamber in TCW so you could take it that they are some sort of experts at carbon freezing, so no danger then. I have a bad feeling that Lucas will add more dialogue in the blu-ray version of ESB:

Lando: "You put him in there it might kill him.

Vader: "no, i've done it myself, it's perfectly safe"

As much as i like TCW, there are moments that just scream fanwank

yep it was completely ridiculous. add to that the multiple carbon freezing chambers off to the side of the Jedi/clone hangar bay. why would that even be there

I think the argument turns on whether the Cloud City facility is up to acceptable safety specs. Vader even calls it "crude". It's merely a plot device to get past the life form scanners anyway, not the sum total of the entire episode.

Anakin and Tarkin certainly didn't hit it off when they met. Next week should be interesting.

Indeed. I liked that they got Tarkin's voice right.

well, Tarkin always was a cocky cock.

Should be interesting to see where things go - the seasons gotta be fast approaching it's end now...

While I don't dispute that carbon freezing people might be an accepted convention, it was still kind of lame as CW plot point.

The episode was the ultimate fanwank, not only does the carbon freezing chamber looks and sounds exactly like the one in ESB (and is also run by Ughnaughts, who now seem to have a monopoly on carbon freeze), but the jail looks like the Detention block of Star Wars, security cameras and all.

And of course they used the shuttle disguised as a transport for cargo to land on the planet. They should have made one Battle droid say "fly casual" in case someone missed the reference.
