Tarkin in the clone wars. — Page 2

I saw one Clone Wars episode on TV here in Japan, and while it was dubbed and I couldn't follow it too well, it actually wasn't bad.

Otherwise I've never seen it.

I'm interested. This a character they could greatly explore in the series.

But every character from the OT that's been 'explored' has become lamer because of it.

Such as...?

Boba Fett: ESB: Awesome, mysterious bounty hunter. AOTC: The homely clone son of Jango Fett. Clone Wars: The whiney little urchin who doesn't really want to hurt people but fell in with a bad crowd.

Darth Maul: TPM: Mysterious badass Sith Lord. Clone Wars: One of a planet of interchangeable Darth Mauls.

Darth Vader: OT: y'know, Vader. PT: "Yippee!" "I hate sand" "What have I done?!"

So far in this season we've had Greedo, Tarkin and Sy Snootles from the OT, Qui-Gon and Darth Maul from the PT, have they run out of ideas??

I fail to see how does one thing leads to the other...

You don't think that bringing back two characters that were dead, a bounty hunter from the (completely unrelated to the CW) cantina scene and the singer from ROTJ means they're out of ideas?

I'm sure they'll eventually make a CW episode with Ewoks, why not?

Other than Tarkin, which makes more sense, there's no reason to keep putting "10 second cameo" characters from the movies in the CW, and there's no reason to bring back the dead. It just shows a lack of fresh ideas.

Even in the case of Tarkin, while it might make sense, why not leave it alone, so that SW has some fresh characters in each episode. They way the prequels and the CW were made, by the time you get to ROTJ you've seen everything.

I wouldnt be so hard on it.

George lucas is the one presents all of these bad ideas like bringing back darth maul and boba fett, then the team working on the show actually makes it good.

I really liked the boba fett episodes besides the fact that it was boba fett.

and the three episode arc with savage opress may be the best star wars I've seen since RotJ

To be honest of all the OT character to turn up Tarkin is the one that makes the most sense, he really should have been a proper PT character going by the importance he holds in ANH.

Forget the blue guy with the forked tongue or the spooky frosty chick in a vorlon cape.

I'm not really criticizing the stories from the show. The Darth Maul arc was ok, I don't think it was that great really.

The point I was making is just the lack of imagination in creating new compelling characters. As I said, Tarkin does make more sense, but with Sy Snootles and Greedo it seems like they have a big dart board with every minor OT character and they just throw a dart and whatever character it hits gets an episode.

Next week it'll be the Cantina bartender having an adventure with Mace Windu, they'll fight Battle droids, and it will explain why he "doesn't serve their kind".

If one were to watch the thing in order, by the time you get to ROTJ, you've seen Jabba, Bib Fortuna, Sy Snootles, a lot of the alen races in Jabba's Palace, the speeder bikes, the Emperor, the Emperor's bolt lightining, etc.

Wait, time out. Greedo's been retconned - AGAIN - so that he's now the one who fights Anakin in the deleted scene? Didn't they change that so it was not so beforehand, even though it was what he had in mind?

Yeah, the Clone Wars sure ruined a bounty hunter who got smoked like a joke in his one minute of screentime in Star Wars.

The Clone Wars is a pretty great show, really. Sure there's some lame stuff, but the good really does outweigh the bad so far. I'd consider myself a OOT purist as far as Star Wars goes and I still really enjoy TCW. There have only been a few instances where something that's happened in them has made me angry.

^Agreed.

I can pretty safely say that the clone wars is better than the prequels.

Hey i hated when they inserted the death star into episode III and put tarkin in there.

I did not mind chewbacca being in the movie, but he had no real role to play he was just a fanwank moment, and did we really need chewie and yoda to be pals ?

The worst things in Clone Wars have come from Lucas himself.

The show can be really fun and great when the other people are allowed to shine.

I like how they added design touches here and there from the oot, yeah even in that horrible clone wars movie when they referenced R .MQ's work on JEDI.

ROTJ ruined Boba. I wonder if anyone noticed that the ROTJ Boba is basically a completely different... "character" from the ESB Boba. NOTHING in common WHATSOEVER.

I meant Greedo.

I wasn't aware Greedo had anyone who actually cared about him or had put enough of his character's personality from his minute of screentime in ANH together to warrant calling the portrayal of him in The Clone Wars as one that ruined him.

Though Boba certainly didn't make the smartest of moves by jetpacking over to get into melee range of a guy with a melee weapon on a skiff of otherwise unarmed and bound prisoners when, the way I've always thought of him from ESB, he'd be smart enough to hang back and put Luke down and then move in to capture the rest. But then, ROTJ is easily the worst of the original trilogy in some ways.

Keep Circulating the Tapes.

I'm surprised the SE didn't have Fett rocketing out of the Sarlacc pit as Jabba's barge explodes. Fanboys would have cheered that. ;)

It would have been even more awesome if he flew out wearing a boater hat and then proceeded to do a musical number as the sail barge blew up around him!  =P

The last thing I read about the Tarkin story arc is that the Jedi are going to infiltrate a separatist stronghold by being frozen in carbonite ...
