I don't know what scares me the most, potentially losing my hearing or losing my sight.

For me I'd rather become deaf. I already know a lot of ASL (though I get a bit hung up on the grammar.). If you became deaf you can still do 99% of what you do now except hear. You can drive. Watch movies and tv with the assistance of closed captioning. The FCC has established new guidelines to insure captioned video for tv shows online in the future.

As for listening to music you can feel the vibrations of it to experience it. Further there are devices such as t-coil headphones.

They hookup to t-coil compatible hearing aids to allow you to still listen to music. Also there are people who take songs and do sign language interpretations of it. "We R Who we R" - Ke$ha ASL interpretation Sean Forbes "Let's Mambo" Ft. Marlee Matlin Enrique Iglesiass - Hero Sean Berdy ASL interpretation "Grenade" Bruno Mars ASL interpretation Just to list a few.

Yes I realize there's stuff you'd have to get used to being deaf but not nearly as much as going blind.

Um,........ oh yeah tales of woe.... Um, I was once in the middle of this really fantastic se... err let's just say it was going to be a really great dream. Well I was having this dream in the middle of the afternoon (because I sleep at odd times) and this door to door salesman came by and knocked on my door waking me up...
