TPM scene shot with digital camera

I had heard that Lucas told people that he shot one scene in TPM digitally, but he never said which scene, or with which camera. I'd been under the assumption that he used the F900, although I just read that that camera was not in existence until he asked Sony to create it for use on Episode II.

so if the CineAlta F900 was the first digital motion picure camera, then what did Lucas use for the mystery scene from TPM?

also, if anyone knows which scene...

I'm pretty sure I remember reading somewhere that it was the nighttime scene on Tatooine with Anakin and Qui-Gon.

If you look at that shot where Anakin says "I want to be the first one to see 'em all," there's just something .... off-looking about it.

I'd also be curious to know just what make/model of camera was used. If this was part of principal photography it would've been the ancient past of 1997.

EDIT: Jaws beat me to it

Crowd scene shots were done with the HD cameras and so was the blood test scene, apparently. Source: http://forums.ilmfan.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=461

thanks!

I always thought the blood test scene looked rather flat.

also, the link doesn't seem to say what crowd scene. would I be correct in assuming it was during the podrace?

I heard / read somewhere that the Obi-Wan dialogue with Yoda ("I gave Qui-Gon my word.") was shot on digital.

Rogue One is redundant. Just play the first mission of DARK FORCES.

That would probably make sense, because it's also the only (or one of two) shots in that movie with a CG Yoda.

 Until recently of course. ;)

I don't know why, but the TPM puppet looks worse than CG Yoda to me.

CG Yoda is in one short shot in the original TPM - when he walks over to Obi-Wan and says "confer on you the level of Jedi Knight the council does".

I noticed that for the first time as I was watching Schorman's version just now.

I think all CG is better than the puppet they got in TPM though. It seemed way less expressive than the ESB one.

I heard a rumor that the TPM puppet is the same as the ESB version, just shriveled and stiff from being in storage. But I think that's BS.

They built a totally new puppet, with silicone skin instead of latex. Attempting to make Yoda look younger is where things went south.

Huh interesting. I always thought he actually looked older in TPM Than in ESB.

And they really didn't need to do with someone who was nearly 900 years old. ;-) Then again, maybe 35 years does make a difference when you get up  to that age.

The character who ultimately became Yaddle apparently started out as concept art for a younger Yoda...

And she(!) remains a puppet in the current version of the film.

I guess Lucas thought changing a puppet character who didn't do anything but sit and stare like a stuffed bird into CG would have been completely unnecessary and pointless, even for him.

I thought it was the scene were obi and quigon enter the lake to meet the gungans because the water looked awfully digitized.

There's a shot or two after Obi-wan and Qui-gon reunite on Naboo that I always pegged as the early digital camera shots.
