something was screwed on the colour corrected master and that is why i never released a 14gb mkv of that one.

Thank you for explaining that, Adywan.  I did wonder. :-)

I will never understand why people think encoding something that is only about 17GB originally to a BD-50 will ensure quality though.  I could understand a BD-25, but downloading and burning a whole BD-50 takes ages and is a waste of time and money, if the quality is not going to be any higher.

Why would you call Jambe "Ady?"

I can say now with absolute certainty, that I will continue to enjoy the AVCHD's, even with today's Blu-ray announcement.  I want to wait for the reviews and tech specs to be coming in for MONTHS before even THINKING of buying it.  And besides, I really do not want to pay for six movies when I only want three.  I hope they release singles eventually, with the OUT in full 1080p.  Yeah, right.

All hail the AVCHD's!

May I ask what means AVCHD please ? (At last I dare!)

Advanced Video Codec - High Definition.

It's the codec used for Blu-Ray, I believe. But if the file is small enough it can be used on any DVD.

The big advantage to AVCHD - since you can fit it on a DVD-9, you don't need a blu-ray burner to burn it.  And it doesn't look as good as a true blu-ray, but it looks better than a regular DVD.

I am making it my mission to direct as many people as I can here to inquire about the AVCHD's and NOT settle for yet another rendition on Blu-ray.

The AVCHD's are where it's at.  :)

I'd say Ady's AVCHD releases look better than some official blu-ray releases, though. Like that bloody Lord of the Rings boxset.

Tobar said (in the TESB:R tread):

Well I was actually there at Celebration

...

I was able to catch a good chunk of ANH. First of all, the quality of the footage was amazing. Brilliant definition. It was projected onto a huge digital screen and it was just breathtaking.

I think what they were playing is what's going to be released on bluray. It seems like they fixed some of the errors the DVD release introduced as Luke's saber was actually white during his remote training and the color overall looked a LOT better than what I remember from the last release.

I think there is still hope for a decent blu-ray release. May not be the OOT but at least hopefully a better transfer of the SE.

Hello fellow SW fans. I was directed to this sight from someone on another forum and was told that this is the place to come to get the ACVHD version. Could someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks very much

I just don't think it is a good idea to advertise this site as a bootleg clearinghouse.

I'm not advertising anything.  We are here because we are frustrated.  There is no point in being here or having this site up and running if we don't help other fans and maybe, just maybe, bring some more people into the mix here that could offer something of value.

All fans that want the Original Unaltered Trilogy and own the increasing stack of sub-par official releases deserve access to the AVCHD's.

The longer this site is treated like the Honeycomb Hideout, the more this site doesn't deserve to be active.  Our voice must be made louder.  Star Wars is not an exclusive club.  It's supposed to be for everyone.

Personally, I am appalled at your responses, Sluggo.

I partly agree with both of you guys, on one hand OT.com shouldn't become a STAR WARS branch of pirate bay, on the other hand we should try and get as many people to join and sign the petition as possible. And it's not like they can get the links here, just to let people know about the possibility of getting something better than what is thown at us by LFL.

This is one of the biggest problems with this site : The current project distribution model basically relies on it being a small community, and the community's not going to get bigger without a way for just anyone to come here and download at least some kind of sample of why the Lucasfilm releases suck.

I see your point, but there is the newsgroup.  All Adywan's AVCHD releases are there, and anyone can find them and download them however big the community becomes.

Guys, I'm not tossing download links all over the Internet.  I am offering information and links to this site as well as SaveStarWars.com.  If they aren't UseNet savvy, they can register, become a member, and ask the appropriate questions in the appropriate threads.

Just like I did and many others.  If that is a problem, then the whole reason why this site exists will remain doomed.

Excuse me, there is the what? I'm pretty decent at the whole internet thing, having been on the web since it was called the web back in 1998, computer science degree, etc, and I have no idea how to access "the newsgroup". Very few people use those things anymore; torrent is where it's at, when it comes to distribution.

The newsgroup - our "usual place" - is alt.binaries.starwars.  Quite a few people use it and other newsgroups besides.  There is a thread somewhere, arguing the merits of torrents, rapidshare and newgroups, so I will not get into that debate, but as many can download from it as wish to, however big the community grows.

edited - I see vbangle beat me to it.

Torrents are being used less and less now due to the frequency of prosecutions by the MPAA and other countries authorities, especially here in the UK. No one so far has ever been prosecuted for using usenet. plus you will always have to rely on people seeding a torrent where you don't have to worry about that with usenet, and with retention by many providers being 1 + year it's easy to reupload a release so it never disappears. And then theres the speed issue. Torrents are slow slow slow unless there are enough seeders or a seeder with a seedbox. Usenet you can get your full download speed.

But many are now using file hosting sites like rapidhshare to host their work. It's very rare now that an editor will use torrents to share their work.

Haha. I did that, of course, and turned right around when I saw it cost money. This is, after all, the internet (see other paywall models (newspapers) for examples). No one's been prosecuted for Usenet because it's not popular enough for the MPAA&Co to bother. Rapidshare is a better solution that Usenet, certainly, but I can't remember seeing a reliable rapidshare (and other file sites, yes) search/index. As for torrents, Ady states the problem well.
