THE Most Awesome Scene in Star Wars — Page 2

"I think he means the one shot following the two Jedi star fighters.

But I agree, they could have trimmed down the first 20mins of ROTS quite easily."

I'm just glad he cut as much as he did. The half hour they left was boring enough, but George said he shot enough material for an hour, I think!

There is no lingerie in space…

C3PX said: Gaffer is like that hot girl in high school that you think you have a chance with even though she is way out of your league because she is sweet and not a stuck up bitch who pretends you don’t exist… then one day you spot her making out with some skinny twerp, only on second glance you realize it is the goth girl who always sits in the back of class; at that moment it dawns on you why she is never seen hanging off the arm of any of the jocks… and you realize, damn, she really is unobtainable after all. Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

All the scenes in ESB.

(the original 1980 version, of course I have to be specific now)

My favorite scene was when Jar Jar Binks died.
George Lucas was seduced by the dark side. The OOT ceased to exist in his mind and became the Special Editions...." "They're more maching now than movies. Twisted and evil."

Never happened. That thing about him being on Alderaan is just fanon.
Author

Sure would. But personally, I liked his death scene in the fan film "Star Wars Episode III: A Lost Hope."

I love the way he died in A Lost Hope too! That is so funny.

Now if George did a SE of the original Star Wars, and right before Alderran blew up, you would see Jar Jar on the planet digitally inserted, now I probably wouldn't have a problem with that change

The opening scene of ROTS is just your average generic sci-fi space battle that you see in every movie these days. Admitedly it is VERY well done, and on a differnet level to most sci-fi films, but it will be quickly surpassed, and not destined to be classic by any stretch of the imagination.

That opening shot gives me chils. Let me describe the scene and try to tell you what I see in the opening shot that, IMHO, makes it the classic:

Following the opening crawl, the camera pans down to a blinding Coruscanti sun, on down to an enormous Republic ship/Star Destroyer going slowly by the camera. Bass drums beat at a constant rythym set the dark tone immediately. In the background of the bass drums, you can hear a faint bell ringing. Suddenly, two jedi starfighters, side by side, following each other's every move, fly across camera, over the ship, and around it, revealing a sea of ships engaged in an obviously epic battle over Coruscant. DAMN.

That shot immediately shows me that things are serious now. It gives the impression that Obi-Wan and Anakin now have a much closer bond, that they trust and follow one-another, helping each other out when in need. Yeah. It's symbolism of their brotherhood. The music has a dark feeling of ultimate fate to it. To me, this is no typical sci-fi battle. It has emotion, and, as I said, it has the symbolism of darkness and brotherhood. Yeah.

But there's nothing really groundbreaking or innovative about it. It's nothing that I have never seen before (I admit it's very well done, better than any other CGI space battle). The T-1000 in T2 has been surpassed, but remains a classic of CGI. The Matrix introduced Bullet time and various other CGI techniques - classic. Gollum was the first really believable CGI character, largely thanks to Andy Serkis' Mocap acting (Jar Jar Binks was intended to be classic and is admittedly quite an achievement, but he aint no Gollum). These are modern CGI classics. ROTS Is just the same old stuff, only bigger, louder, 'faster, more intense'. Nothing new.

That's not to say it's not cool though.

I do like the film, but there was nothing l hadnt seen before in a film, and as good as it was done it wasnt groundbreaking like Star Wars was at the time(well to me IMO) but then i guess to a young person it would be, now one problem I have other than obvious ones, there are times in the battle when I wonder what side is shooting at what side(maybe i should have read some technical book or it may be just me)

It's just that I didn't go in expecting it to be groundbreaking. Few things are. All I ask from a film is that it inspires me and leaves me with something to think about. That, ROTS was able to accomplish. The opening shot had the job of introducing you (clone wars series aside) to what the hell is going on "since we last left our heroes in AOTC." That, IMHO, it does perfectly. I didn't expect it to be innovative, just entertaining.

I feel the same way when I watched the ROTS opening battle, it is so cluttered, and if you don't follow it frame to frame and focus solely on one ship, you really can't figure out sometimes who are the bad guys, and who are the good guys. Then go back and watch the space battle in Jedi, and although you have a ton of ships on the screen it is easy to distiguish who is fighting who. I just think Lucas thought, "Lets see how many ships we can get on screen so people can say, OHHHHHHHHH! That is awesome looking," and then ten years later the effects wears off.

That's fine. But you said it would be a classic. It won't.

For the record, I would respond, but there are too many awesome moments.

Most of them in the Orignal Trilogy...

Don't think this one has been mentioned yet. One of my favorites is the end of the Vader/Obi-wan duel in ANH.
Obi-wan: "If you strike me down, I will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine."
Vader swings, Obi's cloak and saber fall in a pile, Luke shouts "NO!"

Great stuff.

One of my fave scenes is the Luke and Leia 'brother/sister' chat on Endor.
It even brought a tear to my lovely missus' eye. And she's had to watch all 3 prequels in a space of 2 weeks not too long ago.

Might I add, she didn't mention anything about why Luke can't remember his mother and Leia can. Bare in mind we've not long had a baby (one year old on the 21st) so she just see's it as a mother - baby bond thing. But that's for another thread
