IT'S OFFICIAL !!! PETER JACKSON WILL BEGIN FILMING THE HOBBIT AFTER THE RELEASE OF KING KONG. RIGHT NOW MGM HOLDS THE RIGHTS TO THE MOVIE THAT NEW LINE NEEDS. HOWEVER, A DEAL WILL BE STRUCK. LOOK FOR NEW LINE TO PAY MGM OUT THE @$$ FOR THE RIGHTS.

I COULD SEE A DEAL WHERE NEW LINE WILL PRODUCE THE MOVIE AND MGM WILL DISTRIBUTE IT.

My guess is that Time Warner will buy MGM before Jackson gets around to making The Hobbit, so rights will be a moot point.

Not enough awareness of the book. Thanks to Arthur Rankin, even those who hadn't read LOTR and Hobbit knew of their existence. I, for one, had never even heard of the Silmarillion until I was looking for a good copy of LOTR on the shelves.

I GOT THE RANKIN/BASS ANIMATED HOBBIT MOVIE LAST WEEK. I REMEMBER LIKING IT AS A CHILD, BUT IT'S PRETTY HARD TO WATCH IT NOW.

I ALSO ORDERED THE ANIMATED LORD OF THE RINGS AND RETURN OF THE KING. I SAW LOTR AT THE MOVIE THEATER, BUT ROTK WENT STRAIGHT TO VIDEO I BELIEVE.

Yeah, there was. It was a Rankin 3-parter as I recall. The Hobbit - The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King. This, of course, confused the hell out of kids who wanted to read the books and had no idea what the hell Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers were. I was always under the impression that the Hobbit was the first, LOTR second, and ROTK third. Makes sense, right?
