Pardon the cross-post. I beg the mod's indulgence, as I wanted to announce this both in my non-SW thread and in this thread as well.

The mystery edit I've been hinting at for weeks is complete. The first post in this thread has been updated with what may be my strongest project yet:
Pearl Harbor: ADigitalMan's "Strength And Honor" Edit. Once it passes QC, this one will be submitted to the contest for certain.

when you redo pearl harbour can you cut out the part where the guys says "oh $#!+" after the bomb lands next to him in the kitchen right before he blows up, and try and axe the entire ending, and maybe use the thin red line music that appeared in the trailer to great effect.

but those are just my suggestions. Very ambitious project. Eager to hear about the results

PH is actually already complete and out the door to my trusty quality checker. Hopefully what's been done will make sense.

Interestingly, from the dawn of Dec. 7 aboard the Japanese carrier until the awful Bruce Willis Die Hard cameo, I didn't make a single cut. That entire span is a pretty balls-to-the-wall war epic. The Directors Cut added much more stuff here. More realistic gore and terror. For the most part, it was just about excising the love triangle. That alone has improved this film beyond imagination.

I got a lot done on aotc yesterday, figured out a music edit in the shmi funeral that completely changes the tone.

Sounds way cool. Got a sample you can upload? Are you using the funeral theme from Qui-Gon and Padme's funerals?

sorry no uploads at the moment, but I'll see what I can put together.

the music I used is the really low key sombre music that plays in the mace yoda scene which follows the tusken slaughter where they hear quigon. The cue of the imperial march that comes in when yoda speaks now follows Anakin saying "I promise. I won't fail again"

Also I tracked in music for all of the geonosis battle today, feels much more compelling and dramatic. Also rearranged the order of the shots to make the battle flow dramatically in a more cohesive way.

Alright, I currently have every single edit I want to do and how to do them in my head, but Premiere is still giving me trouble, so I haven't made much progress...

I do have a question though... Will we be able to request that what we send as entry to the contest be sent back to us? How I package my edit (assuming I actually finish it...) might depend on that.

My ROTS edit is done except for some sound tweaks. I actuall went through it last night and duplicated the file then went in and hacked out more stuff. The version I put together last night is 1h 45min long, and is maybe a bit too cut down, it exercises the story thread of anakin's premonition about padme dying in childbirth and his turn to evil is strictly due to his own lust for more power. As a result some good moments in the movie had to be truncated, like the bulk of the opera scene and a few other parts. But I also have the other edit which clocks in at 1h 57m and still contatins the Vader "Nooooooooo"

Niether of my ROTS fan edits use any of the deleted scenes from disc 2 as I didn't find any of them to be partidcularly good. And with all the technical issues I've had trying to get the deleted scenes from AOTC thats kind of a relief. If I had used any of the scenes I would probably use the first Mon motha scene, and MAYBE the Yoda scene, but probably not. the Yoda scene seems pointless and the Mon Motha scene is very dry, and for some reason Bail acts very femine which is odd and distracting. It would be cool to show both these scenes strictly for the their OT connections, but I don't like either quite enough to add them back in.

I'm hoping to have both versions of ROTS burned to dvd this week (I could use the HDD space) and submitted to the contest.

as for my AOTC edit..

I'm trying to suss out a way to redo the opening crawl. I've tried doing it in finalcut but it looks like crap. I have afterffects but no clue how to use it

If I make a new crawl I will delete the scene in palpatine's office at the beginning and just put in the crawl that the chancellor has assigned Obi and Ani to protect Padme while she is on coruscant. If I have to keep the original crawl then that scene has to stay and I have to go back into one or two other scenes and reinsert dialogue about the military creation act and the seperatist movement, since niether of those are refered to in the current edit. The seperatists, count dooku, and the military creation movement are all things that are revealed through Obi-wan's investigation.

Anyone have any suggestions about how to redo the crawl on a mac?

Padme and anakin on the balcony, anakin awakening, anakin and padme on the terrace, Anakin and Yoda, General grievous using lightsabers, Yoda fighting palpatine, yoda fighting stormtroopers, anakin and padme talking politics, about half of the mace vs palpatine fight, plus the whole part where he is deflecting the lightening, and Anakin in the council chamber looking out the window to padme, plus half the opera scene. Also the war room scene is gone where Mace senses a plot to destroy the jedi and the scene where anakin tells mace that Palpatine is a sith is gone as well

The final duel is also only about 2/3 of its normal length. No lava surfing or fighting on the table.

Upon reflection I am going with my leaner cut, although I did end up putting in 3 of the deleted scenes after all. Obi/mace/yoda scene is in to fill in some story elements from a scene I cut. The first mon motha scene because I needed a scene to go between obi leaving for utapau and him arriving and I liked its OT value even though the scene itself is sort of dry. And I put dagobah in just for fun although I don't feel its nessesary I just figured it would be kind of neat to have it in there. Its funal running time is 1h 50m

although I was reviewing it today and the deleted scenes have a bit of distortion so I'm not sure if I am just going to have to cut my losses and accept that, or if I can find a way to effectively capture them

I have FINALLY recieved some entries. All ADM's. Thanks for sending those, man. And although I haven't started really--the menus for "Hannibal" are GREAT. I love the layout. Good stuff.

I had fun with "le menu." My menus are grossly simple but with Hannibal (and with Austin Powers too) I had a lot of fun coming up with silly spins on terms and whatnot.

My aotc edit is done except I need to redub a droid with my roommates voice, and then suss out how to burn a dvd (yeah I suck)

I had to delete all the footage from RotS off my Mac as I ran out of HDD space, since the feature I am Executive Producer/editor has over 25 hours of raw footage. But Ikept the finalcut final open so in theory I should be able to re-rip the dvd then just put the footage back online and it will automatically snap back into the edits I made,

JUST as a side note since I see that DAYV has a cut of WIllard, one of my best friends made the extensive behind the scene documentary for that dvd and is currently hard at work doing the Final destination 3 featurette for Wong and morgan

Please compliment your friend for me, that documentary is fucking amazing (pardon my language). I'm really glad that he treated the film the way it deserved to be treated.

yeah a lot of dvd sites praised the documentary more then the film its about. You'll see him in the credits as Mike Lane. His Friend Julie Ng was in charge, I've only met her a few times but they work on the behind the scenes stuff for morgan and wong and some other newline projects like the last John waters film
