TFA Edit – Finn Saves Rey

Hello everyone! I am in the middle of making an edit of TFA that I was making for my own private viewing but as it’s gone on, it seems like I may need a second opinion on one section of the film.

I never liked how Rey used the Jedi mind trick to save herself and how she defeats Kylo. I think ive done a good job in “fixing” both of these issues but in order for Finn, Han and Chewie to save Rey, I have had to reorder the majority of scenes that take place on Starkiller base. This means that I am unsure of how well this actually works as I am a bit worried about the pacing and consistency throughout.

I have uploaded the footage and put a link below. Its 13 mins in length (sorry) but if you wish to help me, I hope that you could watch from start to finish and not skip through so that I can get the kind of feedback that I require (pacing & consistency).

A few things to note before watching:
1 Video – The first scene has Hux speaking to Snoke. Kylo should not be there at all. I have removed Kylo from the first 2 shots of Hux but not removed him from the rest so ignore the inconsistency there, it’s a WIP.
2 Audio – It can be kind of bad in certain sections, there is an AWFUL audio cut when we go back to Finn saying “Lower the shields!” to Phasma. It will be corrected, it’s a WIP

Again, im looking for feedback on the pacing and consistency of the entire video. Thank you to anyone who helps.

All I can say is that the Hux-Snoke scene feels pretty short, and the jump to Hux saying to the crew to fire the weapon, was a (too) quick jump (at least for me). Also, the jump from ‘‘bring her to me’’ to the next scene feels, wierd (maybe a wipe like in old sw movies?), and the finn hugging rey feels abrupt too. Other than that, this could work for me.

I don’t really care if it’s in the shape of a movie, or a cartoon tv-series, or if it’s on videogames and books. Neither if it’s canon or legends; I love all my Star Wars (yes, even the prequels).

“Laugh it up, Fuzz ball.”

Oh wait, no, not all of it, don’t count the Holiday Special on it.

Thanks for taking your time to check it out, I wasn’t sure if anyone would actually bother.

I’ll see what I can do to fix these quick jumps. It’s been difficult due to whats avalible but i’m sure there will be something I can use to correct it. Thank you very much!

You’re welcome, always glad to see new approaches of Star Wars and also always wanting to help
About the wipes, i think only one could work, they werent that many on the original ones, but where for “big” jumps from time/space, like on the Jedi deleted scene, from Vader on his chamber to Luke on a Tatooine cave

Not sure I remember that specific wipe but I’ll watch it again and add it in, see how it looks.

I’m also not sure about the gap in the time it takes from Han lowering the shields to the time the Resistance realise this and send in Poe. Originally, it was instantly but I had to put in a bit of a gap so that Rey could be rescued.

I feel like I am standing in an empty room and talking to myself but anyway, not to sound like I am complaining or anything, I am just a bit confused…

As I said before, I didn’t expect anyone to view my topic but 15 people were interested enough to read my post, watch my 13 minute video but not take 10 seconds to reply? I wouldn’t have minded if no one watched my video at all or just said “That was terrible” but I only got 1 reply out of 15 views? Why is that?

Ive seen quite a few people constantly complain about the Rey mind trick (even up to a few days ago but not naming names). Isn’t this a possible solution to that problem that some people have? Are they just trying to spare my feelings from being hurt? Is the video just too long? If so, why bother clicking the video at all? “I just skipped through it and didn’t think that this was a very good way to go about the issue that you and others have” would have been fine. Is it because I am new so not as respected as others? Have I done something wrong?

As I said, not complaining or trying to disrespect anyone, just confused. I am not even sure this will get a reply but hoping for some sort of clarification. Thank you.

Please don’t confuse processing for rudeness or indifference. A video is easy to glance at, but digesting your posts, which are quite lengthy, and responding to them requires time.

Now that I’ve had the time to see, read and analyze I have a response.

Honestly it didn’t work for me. The idea feels too inferential. We’d need to see and/or hear more. Interesting idea though.
