TDS Trilogy - A combination of the 97/04/11 SE enhancements while keeping many theatrical elements.

Inspired by Harmy & adywan’s extensive work with Star Wars, this trilogy is intended to correct many unwarranted changes from the Blu-ray and previous special editions, while also removing the infamous blue hue from the Blu-ray.

VIDEO/AUDIO INPUT: 1080p 2.35:1, 640kbps AC3 5.1

VIDEO/AUDIO OUTPUT: 1080/720p 2.35:1, 640kbps AC3 5.1

SOURCES: 2011 Blu-ray (main), 2004 HDTV WookieGroomer rip, HairyHen 5.1 audio

EPISODE IV - A NEW HOPE

  • Removed rocks in front of R2-D2
  • Han shoots first
  • Original Krayt Dragon Call
  • Removed Jabba Scene
  • No fade between clip of Alien and Luke & Obi-wan approaching the falcon
  • Regraded based off WookieGroomer/GOUT

EPISODE V - THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK

  • Restored Boba Fett’s original voice
  • Restored “Bring my Shuttle” line & music cue
  • Cut scene of Vader & co. walking to shuttle
  • Regraded based off WookieGroomer/GOUT

EPISODE VI - RETURN OF THE JEDI

  • Add deleted scene of Vader calling to Luke (TBD)
  • Remove “Baby-talk” song (TBD)
  • Regraded based off WookieGroomer/GOUT

For edits with a TBD beside them, that means that I lack materials to do so. I tried to export the deleted ROTJ scene from the source, but the disc is apparently defective, as it won’t show up in any of my drives, so if anyone would like to send me the scene in its original quality, I’d greatly appreciate it.

If you have any suggestions for any changes that should be made, please let me know.

Color sample looks good.

I like your changes (I don't know that deleted scene, off the top of my head, though). More in line with what the SE probably should have been. I think sprucing it up for the 20th anniversary return to theaters was fine. Honestly, I'm all for changes like this or thisObviously not at the cost of the (superior) originals never seeing the light of day again.

Personally, (and I've said similar to kk650), I find just about all of the creature (and droid) type CGI pretty detestable. So, if it were up to me, I would cut:

Dewbacks

Rontos

Tatooine scout droids

Jokey lifting robot

Sarlac beak and tentacles.

Remove Gungan celebration, as '97 version, or even all of the celebrations.

Things that I think should definitely be changed:

Vader's Noooo

Ghost Anakin.

Call me crazy, but I like the whole "no" line, but am indifferent on Hayden as Ghost Anakin. I wouldn't be against putting Sebastian Shaw back in though.

I'll try to do my best on the CG in Mos Eisley, but I don't have an 1080p sources to match it.

Interesting - I have the same problem with my OT Bonus disc - it plays fine in my BD player but my computer's BD drive refuses to read it and I have the same problem with a couple more discs (among them the bonus disc in the Blade Runner 30th Anniversary set). I was planning on getting a different BD drive eventually (the one I have is external) hoping that it would solve the problem with those discs but it would seem that it may not.

Your call is fair enough regarding "no". I'm probably a little more indifferent than many about that. As long as Shaw is back it'll be worth checking out!

And yeah, Mos Eisley would be tricky. Harmy did as good a job as is possible right now and it looks great. Lifting and using that scene from him would probably need permission from him and negative-1 (and maybe Team Blu for that one GOUT shot? I forget). At some point in time, team negative will release the full sequence. Hopefully the prints they're using are in good shape color-wise (perhaps even better than the clips given to Harmy?).

Just goes to show how everybody has completely different tolerance levels for different SE changes.

I have no problem with most of the CG in Mos Eisley apart from the stupid stuff like the robot hitting the other one and the swinging jawas, I even see it as an improvement in a lot of ways because it makes Mos Eisley seem more busy like you'd expect a space port to be. Mos Eisley in the unaltered original trilogy seems a little bit too deserted and too much like a set by comparison IMHO.

On the other hand I absolutely hate that 'noooooooooooooo' at the end of ROTJ, its among the worst SE changes for me, makes an absolute farce out of an incredibly poignant moment, one of the greatest and most intense moments in the entire trilogy for me. Darth Vader's silence as hes watching his son get electrocuted makes it so much more powerful IMHO, that 'noooooooooooooo' really ruins what was a perfect scene for me before.

I think it really underlines that its impossible to make a release combining elements from both the theatrical and special editions that will please everyone 100%.

Nice take on the colors. I like it! Please more samples ;)

Darth Id on ‘Why “Ben”?’:

And while we’re at it, we need to figure out why they kept calling Mark Hamill’s character “Luke Skywalker,” since it’s my subjective opinion that his name is actually Schnarzle Shnuzzle.  It just doesn’t make sense!

Damn you George Lucas for never explaining why they all keep calling Schnarzle “Luke”!

Damn You!!!
