Superman Movie

I know there was an older thread for this, but I was unable to locate it. Here's a few clips from Bryan Singer's journal of his appearance at ComiCon, and also a few scenes from the new movie. A little long on the con piece, but the scenes that are in this look pretty good. The first time I saw him in Clark Kent getup I thought he definitely looks like Christopher Reeve (IMO). It's the Bryan's Journal #20 link on the side of the page.

Haha, you beat me to it. Was going to post earlier but got side-tracked with work. Though shouldn't this thread be titled "Superman Returns" since thats the name of the movie?

Here's a direct link to the #22 blog which is outstanding IMO. Can't wait for the movie, I got chills watching the clips they showed at comic-con. Only thing I wished they would have showed a glimpse of was the standing O Singer got after showing the footage.

I have a bad feeling this movie is going to be a bust. I just one look at the terrible Superman costume and imho, its got "failure" written all over it.

But it'll be good to laugh when this new Superman film blows up in Bryan Singer's face.
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

As with all things, I'll give it a shot prior to condemning it. The 15 seconds of clips I've seen so far are not enough to make a judgement.

Though the fact that Synger said that Superman was Jor-El doesn't bode well.

Wow, I didn't know the production was so far ahead... They concluded principal photography already?

I have a question, will they really keep the John Williams soundtrack for this movie?

So it's really a sequel to the 78 line of films and not a new universe?

Superman 1
Superman 2
Superman Returns

Good....coz 3 & especially 4 were pretty shit.

I too hope they keep the Williams Superman theme for this movie.
Along with SW and Indiana Jones, it's his best work...IMO oh...and ET is ok

well, I'm afraid it will blow up in his face, but I'm not going to laugh about it. I was hoping it would be a success.

This is true. But looking at the costume, its hard not too make a judgement.

I thought Jor-El was Superman's father?

they'd better keep it. nothing else would come close. To not use the Williams themesong would be almost as bad as remaking Casablanca and not using "As Time Goes By". Of course remaking Casablanca at all would be a crime and should be outlawed, punishable by death(a very very painfull death).

He is. That's why the mistake is disturbing.

I belive it's more like this new Batman was for the previous ones... Like, re-starting the whole thing.

I heard that they were using the guy who did the music for the X-Men movies to score "Superman Returns".

Personally I think trying to connect this to earier films is dumb, considering that it's supposed to be a NEW Superman film for a NEW generation, therefore, it should start out on a clean slate all its own, like "Batman Begins". Also I think the use of Marlon Brando's archive footage is lazy and distasteful; there are plenty of good LIVING actors who could play Jor-El, why dig up the dead?

I also find the casting of Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane a dreadful one. It's like Katie Holmes in "Batman Begins" - she doesn't come across as this experienced news woman, she just comes off like a snotty little teen.

First off let me say I am a HUGE Superman fan. It's my 'thing' in my circle of friends. Almost all of us like Star Wars, so that goes without saying.

I'm of course excited about a new Superman film at last, but like everyone else, I have my reservations. As it stands now, the best things to come out of this will be the release of previously unseen Marlon Brando footage from Superman II. Most of you probably are not familiar with the history behind II; it's the ultimate lost superhero film, as the film we have now is NOT the way it was originally intended. If anyone's interested in in-depth detail on the subject, check out the Superman Cinema website. The hope is that the use of Brando will open all new possibilities for a much needed Special Edition of Superman II. So other than that, hearing John Williams' theme again, and Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor, there's not much to get excited about.

If I had my way, I would have ended Smallville this season with everyone graduating from high school and moving on with life, then picking up in a feature film "10 Years Later," with all the actors being the proper age for their characters at this point. It could even have an opening narration from Christopher Reeve from his episodes on the show. That's right, Chris Reeve was a fan of the show and appeared on it twice. Smallville supporters are fond of saying, "Christopher Reeve passed the torch to Tom Welling, and Bryan Singer put it out." I couldn't agree more. And regardless of tying-in to Smallville or not, it just makes more sense to start over with Superman, as opposed to Batman. Too bad we couldn't have had a reversal, with the Batman franchise picking up after Batman Returns, in which case Michael Keaton could actually reprise the role of an elder Batman. Instead we pick up after Superman II, a twenty five year old film. And the casting! Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane? Rose Byrne would have been a MUCH better choice IMO, especially since she looks a like a more beautiful Margot Kidder, the original Lois. I hope Brandon Routh can do the role justice, but he won't be getting any help from the costume. Batman's suit you can change and adapt, as he needs it to do what he does. Superman's is more of a symbol and icon; it requires no changes. But now it's maroon with a small rubber S, SHORT shorts, and a t-shirt collar. Sometimes I want to like this movie, sometimes I don't. The hype should be fun, I just hope the finished product can live up to it.

I still don't get why people are so worried about this film... Brian Singer was the guy behind Xmen and X2, both of which were some quite good superhero movies, IMO at least. I'm not saying it is going to be good; it has some hurdles for it to overcome alread (I'm looking at you, whoever designed the costume)...

But still, I'd rather believe Singer can pull it off--the last thing we need is another catwoman.
