Super Healing Obi-Wan!

I can't remember seeing anyone else mention this, but it has bothered me at every viewing of ROTS. Why the hell isn't Obi-Wan paralyzed and/or in traction for the rest of his life?

During the ROTS Dooku duel, when Dooks sends Obi flying across the room and he crashes into the catwalk, Obi would have been hurt. BUT, to add insult to injury, when the catwalk falls down on Obi-Wan IT CLEARLY LANDS ON HIS PELVIS AND PUSHES HIM ABOUT 5 FEET ACROSS THE FLOOR! For someone who was nearly unconcious already (or even not) this would have not only pulverized his pelvis and legs but most likely severed the lower half of his body!

For those of you who have the ability to, go and re-watch this. Seriously now... c'mon. Obi was toast! But instead Anakin declares "He seems to be all right. No broken bones, breathing's all right." LOL... riiiight! PUH-lease!

I think it landed on his thighbone and pushed him.

Also, I thought Jedi could heal each other, I thought that was what Obi Wan did to Luke.

Eh... when? In what scene? When they first meet?

I think he's referring to Obi-Wan crouching over Luke and touching his forehead while he's unconscious. Right after the beating he took from the sand people.

Hmm... don't know about the healing thing either way, but still- anyone see what I'm talking about in ROTS?

No, I'm sure just about everyone noticed this, at least me and my friends did... after we discussed how his pelvis would be in powder form after that much force, we just kinda shrugged it off.... it's an error in believability, but doesn't really detract from the strory.

I know exactly what you're talking about. It was ridiculous. Like that time when Padmé fell off the clone ship in Episode 2 and after a while, some stormtroopers come to get her, she get's up and is like, "Oh! Let's go!"

What’s the internal temperature of a TaunTaun? Luke warm.

I suppose that's much of what bugged me about the PT. The use of CGI along with the 'idea' that the Jedi are all now super-jumpy-twisty-hero types just adds to the cartoon nature of the films. That's great if you're filming 'The Mask' but not if you want to draw audiences into a story. There's just no weight to anything in the films.

Actually, the Clonetrooper that came to get her was the one that fell out of the same gunship she did.

yeah i saw that i not sure how i can explain it but sw is filled with all sort of things like that. Why did pali explode when he was thrown off the cat walk in ROTJ will luke just hit the bottem in ESB.

Besides the "younglings" lines and the "NOOOOOO!" that was the unintentionally funniest moment in the film. The animation just looked horrible! I know I rag on CG a lot (in fact, I just did in my last post), but most of it is relatively believable in comparison to how crappy that one shot was. I was laughing my ass off so much that I never really paid any much thought to the kind of damage that Obi-Wan would have suffered. I can let myself believe the Padme thing since it's just sand, but you guys have a point with the catwalk. It makes you almost believe Jake Lloyd's "Jedi can't be killed" line. Yeah, Obi-Wan can be crushed by a few hundred pounds of steel, but Qui-Gon can't handle one little puncture wound? ^_~

The sad thing is it not only lands on him, but pushes him several feet!!! I would have at least liked him to be in a healing tank like Luke in ESB or something.

Come to think of it, people in general just seem to suffer more 'real' damage in the OT vs the PT- in the PT you'd think you were watching Futurama (vastly superior IMHO ) where limbs and heads get cut off and stuck back on with little consequence.

For some reason I seem to remember there being a gap at the bottom of the catwalk, in between the support girders. Seemed like it was just big enough to hold Obi Wan down. I may be wrong, will have to watch it again. But anyone who does, check it out.

That is right. the catwalk doesn't fall directly on him, although when it skids, it does catch the top of his buttcheek and shove him forward a little. But watch closely--the guardrail does not land directly on him, something sticking out from one end of it breaks the fall.

So, how come Obiwan didn't use the force to lift the catwalk from on top of him, so he could get up and rejoin the fight?

if you read the book (things are explained much better in my opinion in the book, and the turn is more believable) its not solid permacrete or whatever they call it, its actually foam filled to reduce weight...but he doesnt get up cause the injury he did sustain was a concussion, and he was knocked out until the elevator scene.

Yeah, he was knocked out before he hit the ground. Watch his head snap back after crashing into the catwalk in the first place, and then land face first on the floor. If he was still awake at that point, he would have rolled over and moved out of the way before Dooku dropped the thing on him. Or he would have moved when it skidded him a few feet out. but he doesn't even register that something has fallen at any point, so it's pretty easy to see he was knocked out before he ever hit the floor. You don't even have to read the book to figure that.

I thought that was dumb too, but in the video game which follows the movie closely...you do have force heal powers. So the possibility is there. I don't want to be someone who justifies away every plot hole or mistake though.

Yeah, but still, in those video games (take Battlefront, for example), it also takes about 17 laser blasts to kill you, while in the movies, it usually takes one.

I didn't understand that shot at all...
It was badly made... It made little sense that he was still mobile...
But most of all, it had no point. So what if he's under a catwalk? He's knocked out, and thus out of the battle...
