Steren Cantina : Star Wars creation storytelling and thematic analysis

Hi there !

I’ve just started a Youtube Channel that will tackle the creation of our beloved saga, and I’ll also try to analyse some thematic over George’s saga.
I’ve been researching for a long time very seriously to offer in depth and - I hope - interesting videos.

I’ve just released the first one in which I go over all the numerous troubles that Star Wars faced to film the planet of Tatooine, from Tunisia to Arizona, over 25 years of an incredible journey.
There’s a lot of behind the scenes footage, hopefully some of them will impress you as much as I was.

I’m super keen to get your feedback !

I really enjoyed it, and hope you do more. Nice editing, work, and end of video music!

“Don’t tell anyone… but when ‘Star Wars’ first came out, I didn’t know where it was going either. The trick is to pretend you’ve planned the whole thing out in advance. Throw in some father issues and references to other stories - let’s call them homages - and you’ve got a series.” - George Lucas

Thanks ! There will be more 😉 Something like one per month.
I shall alternate between storytelling like the first one and more analytical videos

Hi folks !
It’s time for the second video, this time an essay about the symbolic of colors throughout the saga.
I’m trying to tackle characters, environments symbolic and make a quick allusion to the lightsabers color with some personnal interpretation as well as intended effects. Keen to debate about it here !

It’s out there, again this is only my 2nd video so open to feedbacks :

I very much enjoyed this, and it was very well done and edited, with good humour as well throughout!

I was a little surprised there was not more mention of the Jedi uniform originally being black, something George mentions for ROTJ, and also had pre-production and costume designs for Jedi uniforms being black the Prequels. In the EU too. It was a little disappointing that Kershner and Marquand didn’t get mention in the video? (many often forget or overlook their contributions, instead giving credit or prominence to George), or the EU contributions to lightsabers and colours in the films, and that there were no rules about lightsaber colours introduced until the Prequels?

Those are really my only small nitpicks, or maybe ideas and scope for your future content to include. I really was entertained by the video, will recommend it to friends, and look forward to your next instalment.

“The thing about Star Wars is that there’s one universe” & “Everyone wants to know stuff, like, where did Mace get that purple lightsaber? We want to establish that there’s one and only one answer” - Leland Chee, Continuity Database administrator for Lucasfilm, aka ‘Keeper of the Holocron’, 2008.

Thanks a lot Keyan !

Let me react to your very interesting comments.

I feel like expanding about the Jedi/Tatooine-people evolution of the jedi would have been a fine addition.

As for Marquand and Kershner’s acknowledgment, I’ve spend a fair amount of time on Empire’s colors analysis, but it is true I’ve not named them, as I have then focused on George Lucas’s work about fitting the colors between the trilogies
But don’t worry about Kersh, I’ll (very) soon talk about his implication !

And finally, I just made a very quick (almost subliminal) allusion to Mara Jade’s lightsaber but I felt like covering the EU would kinda confuse the viewer. For the prequels, the average viewer should understand from L. Jackson-Lucas discussion that it was pretty much Lucas freestyling, and it is because there’s no rule that I allowed myself to go for some personnal interpretation.

Again, many thanks for your feedback and sharing.

This time, how about diving 45 years earlier to Hoth ?

Star Wars crew faced a terrible blizzard all over their stay in Norway to capture the opening of Empire Strikes Back, and it gave us countless crazy archives footage and funny anecdotes

Waiting for your thoughts on that one 😃

Hi, today’s new video is an analysis of the Nature/Technology dichotomy surrounding the saga.

Among other things, I’ve tackled the way Star Wars was given Apocalypse Now’ original idea and how early drafts reveal Lucas’ will to depict a strong vs weak conflict.

I also covered how the Jedi have lost their spirituality to technology and the care brought the merging or the disharmony between Nature and Tech in the environments.

I’ve also analysed the many inspirations of Star Wars concerning technology, from 2001 to Frankeinstein, as well as Metropolis and more 😃

I’m curious to hear your feedback about this one, check it here : https://youtu.be/jM9btu8nYzo

Hey guys!

This month video tells the creation of Yoda for both trilogies. Puppets and Miss Piggy in 1980 but also painstaking computer-generated imagery process in 2002.

As always, I’ve tried to add insightful archives and interviews 😉

Go watch it here: https://youtu.be/RzIGptqsNL4

Hey everyone,
I’m happy to share my latest video, in which I have the honor to host KraziKazi, who does awesome character analysis essays.

In this 2-videos series, we tackle the symbolism of both Hoth and Geonosis battles, plus their similarities in construction and thematics.

Also I couldn’t resist making segments about behind the scenes fact.

The Geonosis one is right here : https://youtu.be/XvQEffPckaY?si=l3_FhxkRpcmNdwNx

Enjoy!
