My favorite part was the helicopter shot with Luke and Rey at the end. Breathtaking.

Hmmm … I don’t really have much to say.

I love the costume and set design and David Arnold’s score, and Ra is one of the greatest – and underrated – film villains of all time, but the story does suffer from some pretty considerable plotholes; the screenplay probably could have gone through another draft or two to iron out the most glaring imperfections.

Still, for all its flaws, Stargate remains a favourite of mine.

I enjoyed the ancient Egyptian theme. “Discovering” the aliens who inspired ancient civilizations is very exciting. You wonder what Ra’s civilization was like. You also wonder if Ra inspired Egyptian mythology or impersonated it.

I think that’s the biggest draw the film’s universe has held for me. What was the history behind Ra’s race? What exactly caused their extinction? Were they necessarily as malevolent/tyrannical as Ra was, or did he become like that only after taking a human host?

SG-1 killed too much of the mystique surrounding Ra and his people when the showrunners decided to make the Goa’uld a race of tech-stealing body snatchers.

Good point. SG-1 made Ra the king of the Goa’uld, but for all we know from the film he was an exiled serial killer or power corrupted him over time.

Does SG-1 ever say that the Goa’uld were dying before Ra’s arrival on Earth?

The first season occasionly mentioned that the Goa’uld were few in number but that their numbers were growing, but that idea pretty much was silently abandoned come season 2.

I also like how Luke never said a word. Some people complained but I thought it was really powerful.
