Well, I hit 55 yrs old this week. Hoping to own/view Legacy before I’m too old to remember my own name.

Still keeping the faith here…

Happy Birthday! I hit 50 (or it hits me) in two weeks!

People sometimes forget to renew a domain name.

Or maybe (here’s me: forever the optimist) he was forced to take it down by Disney cuz they’re gonna release it.

Ah to be so young and starry-eyed.

Never his mind on where he is, what he’s doing…

Some people call them Force Ghosts. I call them Midichlorian Swarms.

Hopefully either trying the renew the site domain… or he is getting shitfaced cause his edition is being released 😉

Maybe he got distracted by something and hasn’t had time to get the site back up.

You guys could just ask him? 😃

He is on twitter (maybe other social media too?)

I find that answer vague and unconvincing. Why don’t you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don’t you dig how beautiful it is out here? And say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

This thread has become weirdly voyeuristic…

As in, at this point it feels creepy to me how people are borderline stalking the guy.

If he had news to share, he’d share it.

I ain’t stalking him… I don’t know about others though… 😕

But the only reason I am trying to find out what happened is cause in his post he said he would post more updates…

He also said not to be surprised if the website went down.

Didn’t he say if the site went down it was good and that’s why they shouldn’t worry

from 2016: “Don’t be surprised if, mid-February, this site and any and all online material related to it temporarily vanishes.” I wouldn’t jump to any conclusions. I doubt the site going down means anything. Like ChainsawAsh said, if he wants to share something, he will. In the meantime, there’s no point in speculating.

Ok. This isn’t the place to throw around such accusations. Did Mike ever take donations for this project? Has anybody tried contacting him on twitter before throwing words like grifter around?

This is damned embarrassing especially coming from people who’ve been on this site long enough to know better. 😕

Sometimes I like to visit old abandoned barns just to take a peek at what state of collapse they’re in today.

Yep, that’ll do me for another year.

It’s a long-simmering opinion held by a decent number of regulars here though, nothing really new. The idea of preserving a film for future generations without also distributing it to people in the present rubs them the wrong way. And I get it, they’re fans and they want it now. Hey, so do I. And it’s weird, so kill it with fire.

The very moment this project started, when Mike very clearly and unambiguously announced “…aaaand nobody’s going to actually be able to see this thing unless Lucasfilm explicitly allows it”, people started complaining. “Put up or shut up” was a common refrain. My own initial reaction wasn’t so charitable, to be honest – it was something along the lines of “Yeah, I see you’re preserving history and bully for you, those future generations, and your ethical high ground, but… why exactly are you here? Is it to tease us, to brag, or both?”

Since then I’ve learned that Mike has been an extraordinarily helpful member of this community, whose contributions most certainly dwarf my own, even if they’re often not as apparent to the average viewer. His inactivity here makes me sad not because we’ll never see his contribution, but because his long history of meaningful contributions will have stopped.

If only Bob Iger had gone through with buying Twitter, for no other reason than to have wiped every single tweet from existence, buried all the servers, and glassed the landfill. I would have loved for Twitter to just one day have become the comments section for D23 members and that’s it. That would have been GREAT.

semi-on-topic: This thread is really interesting as a time-capsule starting when trying to upscale and de-noise laserdisc rips was at the forefront of fan-preservation attempts, going all the way through to the “wait, we can scan our own film prints!” revelation that brings us to the here and now.
