Star wars 40th anniversary

Next year is the 40th anniversary of Star Wars, and I am wondering, are we going to see the OUT released or not? Think back to the SE in preparation for the 20th anniversary: we heard about Lucas remastering the films with newer SFX as far back as the Faces VHS release in 95, but presently Disney hasn’t said anything yet about the originals.

What could happen? I’m betting on nothing because it’s another four years before Disney claims distribution rights on five of the six movies.

Even if we don’t see the OUT officially released next year, I think we’ll at least hear an official statement from LFL on its status.

That would still be more than they’ve given us in the almost four years since they were acquired by Disney.

Nobody paid attention when the 30th anniversary came out, and most people were expecting at least a boxset with the OUT in anamorphic widescreen.

That stupid decision by Lucas to release the GOUT made the person I am today.

Well Lucas pretty much burned all the bridges with the GOUT didn’t he? That was a loud and clear “fuck you” to the OUT fans.

I seem to recall someone, maybe Sansweet, saying something along the lines of “oh, we’ll see how these sell and if there’s demand then we’ll give them a proper remaster.” Or maybe that was just pure speculation. It was nearly a decade ago so my memory’s a little fuzzy. But either way I don’t think anything would’ve happened for the 30th when the GOUT release was only the year before.

They should have left the originals alone in the first place! I haven’t seen the OT in six years because the originals are no longer accessible.

I heard that there was some kind of website out there which is dedicated to preserving the OUT. I can’t remember its name though.

What’s the real website guys? TheForce.net, from what I remember, is just a mouthpiece for LFL propaganda; if you said anything critical about the SE or the prequels you were banned for life.

The OOT is available pretty cheap on amazon. They were out for a long time so they aren’t even that rare.

But that’s just VHS/laserdisc releases and the GOUT, which I already have.
