They added the episode Titel for the first time in the late 90s so most people knew it just as star wars… Back than if you called it “a new hope” most people just got confused.

I am not very emotional about the Titel I think it makes sense to add it trilogy wise so that every episode has its own Titel… But most of the time it is just star wars for me.

Yeah, same in Italy… In my Italian 1995 vhs edition the ANH title was added only to the side, in English and with a different font.
My parents still call it Star Wars (Guerre stellari) as they probably don’t know the ANH subtitle. In my language ANH (Una nuova speranza) is way too long, but given that Star Wars became the name of the whole franchise, usually I call it Episode 4. Btw, when I talk to my boyfriend who is a diehard fan of the OT like me, we call it just Guerre Stellari.

Now that I ALWAYS call Raiders of the Lost Ark. Anyone can tell by the logo that it’s got something to do with Indiana Jones!

I always call all of them by their title sans Indiana Jones at the beginning. Saying “Indiana Jones And The ________” is pointless. There’s no reason to double the length of a movie’s title just to clarify who the protagonist is.

Due to my age, I became a Star Wars fan during the releases of the prequels. So, when I first watched them, I started referring to them by numbers, due to the strong presence of the Roman numerals in the prequel posters and the OT DVD covers. Then the Blu-Rays came out and I bought them to replace my pillarboxed DVDs. This is when I really became peeved at the SEs, due to the new changes which then made me look back and see what else had been changed, making me realize what a farce this all was. For purity’s sake and somewhat out of protest, I started referring to them as Star Wars, Empire, and Jedi, in other words becoming an SW old soul. So I never went through a “New Hope” phase. Today, I’m already to the point that I get annoyed and “correct” my friends when the say things like “the fourth one” or “episode 5,” and don’t you dare refer to it as “A New Hope” around me.

Even its Wikipedia page refers to it as simply Star Wars

Wookieepedia was really overturned by the whole EU decanonizing debacle. All of the pages for stupid characters have no information on them, you have to click on a separate tab for the “legends” information. Technically all episode numbers need to be removed from the Wookieepedia titles since they are all advertised as Star Wars: title, with no episode numbers to speak of, which I love. They actually lied by saying TFA was titled Star Wars Episode VII the Force Awakens (while saying it was just marketed as Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which is not true). It’s nice that the TFN/Wookieepedia folks are not the target demographic for Star Wars products any longer.

I am all for the removal of the numerals from the marketing of these movies. I wonder if Lucasfilm did it for the new repacakagings in an effort to put a stop to what is the ever more common practice of introducing kids to the prequels first and watching in episodic order. It always bugged me that the Blu-Ray release ordered the discs in episodic order in the digibook (does anyone know if this is still the case after the repackaged “Complete Saga”?). It almost seemed a ploy to get new viewers to watch Lucas’s “original vision” before the original movies.

I don’t think we’ll ever see a Star Wars movie with the episode number at the forefront of the marketing campaign ever again.

I make a point of only referring to the OT films as STAR WARS, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Interestingly and I’ve only just realised this but I tend to refer to the PT as Episodes 1, 2 & 3, rather than The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.

Thus far I’ve only referred to The Force Awakens as The Force Awakens.

If you look at the marketing for Rogue One-it’s marketed as ROGUE ONE, with “A Star Wars Story” in much smaller letters, whereas TFA was marketing as STAR WARS first. That seems to be how they’re differentiating them.

I saw billboard ads for Raiders, (for a live orchestra presentation) while I was away last weekend, and they’re still calling it that. : /

They’re probably stuck with the publicity materials Lucasfilm gives them though.

I have a t-shirt with the original poster on it and it has the original RAIDERS of the Lost Ark title, with no “Indiana Jones and the”. That being said it doesn’t bother me because they have left the original title in the film intact. When the opening credits come up as Indy is traversing the jungle it still just says “Raiders of the Lost Ark”.
