For the audio drama I'm working on I'm trying to duplicate the distinct sound of the radio chatter from ANH, especially the Death Star battle (also from the THX 1138 short film).
I have Audacity and Adobe Audition and have been experimenting, but can't seem to get the character of the noise right. Any ideas?
As soon as I get home I will look into this. I have Audacity, I think it could be done with a couple of filters. I'd love to experiment with this.
The radio chatter in ANH was recorded through shortwave radios, so you need to find filter that will emulate shortwave
I've been fiddling with it, I think we can achieve this using a ring modulator followed by a simple highpass. I'm trying to upload a sample as I'm writing this.

Great. I wished I had saved the settings, now I feel like an idiot. I can't even try to recreate it cause right now it's giving me a weird error, no matter what setting I use I get a lot of unwanted clicks, despite having worked perfectly til last night. Well, from what I can remember the settings were these:
If you do wanna add the white noise in the background (don't make it too loud) mix it in after the ringmod, but before the bandpass, or it won't sound right.
