Why Do People Tell Us Who They Are in Every Post?

Now, there's nothing wrong with signing your name in every post.  And it's certainly no worse than POSTING IN ALL CAPS or

typing every thought

on a new

But still - why do it?  We can see your username on every post, so why go through the extra effort to add a "signature?"  Come to think of it, why not just put it in your signature?

Help me understand, off-topic posters.  You're my only hope.

Seriously, it means Private Message. Just click the Lock icon to the right of any of Rikter's posts, but first you need to enable PMs on your account. Go to the Profile menu and turn on 'Allow Private Messages'. You'll know it worked because you'll now have the Lock icon to the right of your own posts.
