The first thing I'll do (assuming it's OK with poita) is upload the raw scans to Usenet @a.b.starwars.

It's ~250GB, so I plan to upload it in multiple (e.g., 5) chunks.

After that, I plan to use everyone's favorite video restoration program (which ends in "Clean") to remove print damage and flicker, nothing more.

The gate-weave will not be removed. I'll leave it as-is.

Furthermore, I plan to use the GOUT (and other sources) to determine which print damage to keep. I'm very cautious, so my goal is to leave in any anomalies that aren't clearly damage to the Super8 film.

When that's done, I intend to GOUT-sync the video and release it as a 720p/23.976fps encode with the BigThree™ 1977 English tracks from Harmy's release ('77 5.1 h_h, '77 2.0 schorman13/h_h, '77 1.0 Belbucus/h_h) on a BD25.

It's going to need a BD25 with all that grain! ^_^

I think it sounds great! Just a couple of questions:

Are you planning on using the stereo soundtrack found on the print? 

What is your goal on getting this completed?

Probably not. I'm not even sure if poita captured or recorded it somehow.

I can't make an estimate, as I haven't received the HDD yet.

This is why I plan on getting the raws uploaded to Usenet as soon as I receive the HDD. I want it to be "out there" and available for several years to come.

The raw scans are about 300GB total or so I think, and it is only Star Wars at this stage. (Could be wrong re the sizes, I'm not at home and can't remember, but it is in that ballpark).

You can do whatever you like with them AntcuFaalb, I honestly don't mind.

Uploading the raw scans from my connection would take about 3 years :)

I know your pain. Our previous ISP was terribly slow.

However, now that we have Verizon FiOS, I can get it uploaded to Usenet in <1 day (~3-4 MB/s upload to usenet).

Yes, I am a volunteer firefighter with the RFS. In fact we are all volunteers, I fought alongisde a 17 yr old who was in the middle of his HSC (Like the SAT in the US or GSCE/A Levels in the UK). He had completed a 2 hour math exam that morning, did a 17 hour shift fighting th Blue Mountains fires, had a sleep and went off to his Physics exam, then was back at the front as soon as it was done.

When I hear people complaining about the 'youth' of today, I would like them to have a go at what some of these young blokes have been doing, unpaid, for the last month or so.

Joel: What kind of downstream bandwidth do you get, on average?

I only ask because it might be cheaper to get a 3-day Usenet account from usenetserver.com ($5), but the usefulness of that depends on your connection, of course.
