Thanks for the post, looking forward to the rest. Another scan would be nice at some point.

Looks great! Do you think that a new scan will make things better?
Significantly, yes.
A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.
I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

My spleen is absolutely killing me. I guess I'll have to do two, three, or even four crunches! Ouch!

Are the other reels being put up? We only see 2 so far.
Also noticed that you have to some rate changes to get the GOUT audio to sync to it.
We are going to make a combined version with audio synched to it.

All are up. There are two torrents with the second one having the remaining three.
1. Reel 1
2. Reels 2-4

Thanks, didn't notice they were combined. Maybe it would be better to have one torrent with all the parts together.
Noticed that Reel 2 is about 3 Gigs larger than the others.

It's great to be able to watch this in it's entirety. Thanks for sharing!
I've noticed there are duplicate frames? Also, Reel 1 is missing some footage at the end.
EDIT: so far it seems like reel1 is the only one with duplicate frames. I still have to check 3 and 4 though.
Luke threw twice…maybe.

I just posted this same thing on the Spleen. Glancing at all of the reels in VirtualDub, Reel 1 seems to be the only one that is affected.

Ah, that's a shame. If those frames aren't there, then I don't have them.
A new scan is coming, FWIW.

Hopefully that scan will be able to reveal the issues you're having with your internal organs.

Has anyone attempted to apply a super resolution algorithm to the raw scans? I seem to remember reading somewhere that they were particularly effective on film, to the point of almost squeezing 16mm detail out of an 8mm print.
Preferred Saga:
1,2: Numeraljoker extended
3: L8wrtr
4,6-9: Hal9000
5: Adywan
I noticed something interesting that sycamore would be intrigued by. I checked the three shots that are different between versions, and the "cloudy" Yavin launch composite is there, and so is the temple composite with the blue lines on a couple frames...but the flash frames when the Falcon is fleeing the Star Destroyer match up with sources like the GOUT and Technidisc, not with the JSC or mthr's bootleg. The flashes fill the entire frame, they aren't "behind" the ships.
Interesting...did reel 3 come from a different IP? (I also see that the subtitle-free Greedo scene starts with a very big and dirty negative splice...)
Interesting, TServo! Looking forward to download these, short on hard drive space at the moment. Please post some screenshots if you're able to.
Huge thanks to Poita and to Antcufaalb for sharing!
We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

This is the new version, that should become a standard, especially replacing Puggo's 16mm for film fans of the original.
We have made a combined version:
======================
1 Cropped and resized to correct 1080p
2 Patched 2 minutes+ that was missing after Reel 2, with LPP scan
3 Added stereo audio (NOT GOUT compatible)
4 Fixed duplicate scene in Reel 3
This new Grindhouse 8mm version is a much more reasonable 8 Gigs,
without much loss in quality.
Will keep you posted when it is complete.

Did you keep the AR at ~2.7:1?

Yes, we kept the ratio the same, should it be altered?
We could adjust it back to more standard ratios.
Thanks for putting up the alternate Reel 4, will take a look at it.

Nope. It really is ~2.7:1 and that's a damn shame. I was just making sure.

You do have that Cineavision print though. Cineavision prints were pillarboxed so that they would stretch out to the correct 2.35:1-2.40:1 ratio and not have to lose any picture at the top/bottom to fit inside the 8mm frame height.

Awesome! Thanks for taking the time to do this
What’s the internal temperature of a TaunTaun? Luke warm.

Is this the original scan, or the rescan?

Any chance of also adding the mono from Puggo?

The scan in question, is currently the original 4 Reels.
When another becomes available, we will make another version.
Things left as an exercise for viewers:
======================
1 Color correction
2 Altering 35mm LPP footage to a lower resolution, and grain
3 Adding Greedo subtitles
4 Adding other soundtracks
5 Fixing a few sound sync issues, due to missing and damaged frames
6 Clean up and dirt scratch removal on the first half of film.
We figure someone will make it work with GOUT, subtitles, etc.
Have fun with it.

Nice! Thanks AntcuFaalb, and team_negative1
I really look forward to seeing this one.

We'd be interested in seeing any other projects, or videos that other people are using this for.
There's about 60 copies of reel 1, and 20-30 copies of the remaining reels floating around out there.
We doubt people are just watching uncropped video without audio, or doing any editing on them.
