The 1080p pink blob.

The theatrical version that was supplanted on DVD with a bunch of readded scenes that did nothing but destroy the pacing and make the already long pod race even longer.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

Ok, but it's not exactly what most people think of as restoration.  Especially on this forum, right?

Not sure.  If they're referring to "restoration" as restoring the original version, then I guess so.  But if they mean "restoration" as restoring scenes that had been cut, then I guess not.

Wait, what are we talking about again?  I think I just confused myself.

I just meant we usually think of "restoration" as something older.  Like 1977 Star Wars, as opposed to 1999 Star Wars.

Not saying it isn't technically correct, but it's not how the term is usually used.

(actually I'm just hoping for a skyjedi restoration rant.  In 3...2...1...)

Okay, well, in that case, isn't sky using it like we usually do?  As in, restoring the film to how it originally was?

..... Well, the first thing that came to my mind was that TPM does need to be restored by Lowry if the master used for the 2001 dvd is indeed the best LFL's got. There are all kinds of defects in the picture, from gate weave to scratches to color timing issues. AOTC and ROTS, being completely digital, don't have any of these problems.

The Episode 1 DVD is an abomination.  The only thing good about it is the documentary.

The artificial sharpening of the picture, caused edge enhancement.

These seem to me to be tweaks rather than what was probably on the DI they used to master the DVD.

I know they did not bother to go back to the film itself since a lot of the effects were done in the computer and the film was edited on  a computer.  That is why Lucas probably skipped the film step altogether for Episodes II and III.  Since he was going for a video look in the first place if the unnatural color timing of the theatrical release and how it looked overly clean was any indicator.

He destroyed the originals to match that overbrightened and dvnr soft image.  I even wonder if he did a dvnr pass on the phantom menace after the original photography was transfered to digital tape.  Since in the theater i could not see any filmgrain really there at all except during the tatooine scenes.

Which if done would have been ironic since he had them oversharpen the DVD.

Sort of Like the Tantive IV blockcade runner being blueish instead of white in episode IV now but White again in revenge of the sith, lol.

“Always loved Vader’s wordless self sacrifice. Another shitty, clueless, revision like Greedo and young Anakin’s ghost. What a fucking shame.” -Simon Pegg.

Just watched the official teaser trailer for the blu-ray set.

SURPRISE! The footage from the OT is the same as the 2004 editions (awful blue tints, messed up contrast.... look at the pathetic saber clash).

Not buying it!

(to the people who will say "what about the new deleted scenes?" I say to them one word: YOUTUBE)

PS: Yeah, the DVD of Episode I is not the theatrical cut. I got mine used.
