My anger against George Lucas knows no bounds. People have the fallacy that these are just movies like every other movie in existence. That is wrong. The OT is so woven into to the fabric of culture so quickly that it is important to humanity as air and water. So GL's decision to let these films to become permanently lost like this is not only negligent, but it is one of the most offensive things one can do that does not involve harming another human being. You know lucasilm will never release the originals ever agin after the GOUT. He only released that just for his own sadistic pleasure. It is clear to me that he secretly hates the whole franchise and whises misery on all who liked it. That's why he made the prequels, to reap money off fans while giving us some non-union job hackwork. The OT that future generations will see is just some imposter that distorts history like a soviet era photograph. I hate him more for doing this to us than for him making the films in the first place. Why didn't you just go in racing like you originally wanted to?

You know, as much as I disagree with him on the issue. I do think he genuinly thinks he's doing the movies a favor.

Get used to disappointment.

It's true.  Once I went three weeks without watching Star Wars and I ended up in the hospital.

What I meant is that Lucas committed a serious error by not allowing the originals to be available to the ongoing public when they are so integral to our popular culture. It's like painting over the sistine chapel with Abstract expressionist brushstrokes or placing every copy of the the complete works of Shakespeare in a locked storage facility on the North Pole.

The only reason the GOUT existed was because the bootlegs of the OOT were curbing his plans to gold-plate his summer home. The OT is not some obscure experimental work you can destroy without notice; they are the films THAT CHANGED AMERICAN CINEMA FOREVER. Lucas needs to respect that, and clearly he hasn't in the last 15 years.

George Lucas, if you restore the OOT, we will sacrifice to you the surviving Beatles members. If you do it before General Frievous' next post, we will throw in all of The Rolling Stones just for the good measure.

Cuz it is just that important to our pop-culture...

An inspiring and hopeful project.....

doubt this project is going to make..

7 days to go and they only have nearly $11k

out of the $300k they need..

they need to go to professionals and industries

and get the funding there..

not enough people care or know about what

they're trying to do or accomplish..

too bad though, could have been

very promising..

Forget Keith Richards, though; he's been dead for some time now.

People should stop focusing on my hyperbole and attack Lucas. What he did with the SE is unique and should not be done by anyone to a classic film.

To put it in perspective, did Orson Welles ever digitally insert the Beatles on the 25th anniversary rerelease of Citizen Kane, and insisted that it was his intention all the time back in 1941? Or did Alfred Hitchcock update the opening credits to Vertigo with 1990s CGI because it fit more with his vision in 1958, but was crushed by the lack of technological achievement back then? Or did Coppola withdraw the Godfather 30 years after its release, and replace it with a version which recasts all the main characters with the cast of the OC? The answer is no, and it is not a sign of mental illness to want the classic films preserved.

The problem is that you are only repeating yourself. We get it and if we take out the deranged obsession, most of us feel the same, but what do you do to help this cause except for endless whining on some forum?

That would've been awesome :)

"Hey mister, can we have our ball back?"

"Don't worry about me, Lennon!!! I'M CHARLES FOSTER KANE!!!!
I'm going to send you to Sing Sing! Sing Sing, Lennon! SING SIIIIIIIIING!"

"We love Charlie yeah, yeah, yeah...."
"You buy Ringo a bag of peanuts and you get a song written about you!"

To make myself feel better about the situation, and maybe spread the truth to newcomers why we don't like George Lucas.

that's great and all that, but instead of complaining about george and

what he's done.

why not point them to the preservation section

where people have ACTUALLY done something about it, and give

them something concrete that they can enjoy.

That's only half the battle; we need GL to repent for what his did to the OT and apologize to his fans. Preservations might save the OOT, but they cannot change GL's mind.

 No, Bingo...he still is:

posted by obi-rob-kenob4,  after a poster named 'StarWar' put up

some visual comparisons between the '77 prints and the 2004

       restoration:

"Things like that dont fool me. Sorry. [face_tee_hee][face_talk_hand]I-)

You can put any image of any movie under a ridiculous magnifying glass with a smug, perfectionist, my-taste-knows-best attitude and make a case that which ever screen posted looks "wrong".
You just pulled the oldest trick in the book. Posted two slightly different images of SW next to each other and demonized the official, smoothed out one that George Lucas prefers. How original.
I think the OOT images look dated and fake compared to the official images. The official images match the rest of the saga much more.
I like the film how lucas likes it. Finished.
And FYI the 1997 cleaning and restoration process done on Episodes 4,5 and 6 was to this day one of the most meticulous restoration processes ever preformed on a film. The original negative was so aged and damaged so badly. The cleaning up they did saved the films. The Saga looks awesome in full 1080p HD on cable and blu-ray. "

Do you see this Mr.Lucas or Lucasfilm,FOX,THX,and ILM?

One day we will have properly restored versions of the Original Unaltered Trilogy (OUT); or 1977, 1980, 1983 Theatrical released versions (Like 4K77,4K80 and 4K83); including Prequels. So that future generations can enjoy these historic films that changed cinema forever.

Absolutely, but you can do so much more. Go to the streets and spread the truth there. And, if possible, stay there :P

I think the newcomers here will get the idea with or without you.
